Black Lace® elderberry is self-pollinating. But if you wish to have as many berries as possible, plant another cultivar elderberry for increased pollination. You can plant two Black Lace or a Black Beauty, or Laced Up 60 feet away for better pollination and more berries.
It should have flowered in May and berries should be forming now. If not, it might not be getting enough sun. Make sure that it is getting at least 6 to 8 hours of full sun. Also if you need to prune, that needs to be done the end of January first of February or you will have no blooms.
Have you tried pruning it back? I did not prune mine for several years and would not grow at all. Once I started pruning, it forced new vigorous growth and started to fill up much faster. It essentially doubled in size in one year alone.
Just bought one of these at your artisan weekend. Looking forward to it growing big like yours!
Excellent video!! It is gorgeous!!
I am planting one tomorrow. Hope mine gets this big in a year or two!!!
I will be planting one of these in the late spring.
Are the berries edible for humans?
Can it take wet feet
Which other variety could you use to pollinate with?

There are no berries forming. It is very overgrown. We just bought the house a few weeks ago! Best way to prune?
@@haleyfink6325 I would take back by 1/3 now and then again in January. Just to get it back to size
Do you know if these are eatable?
Yes, they just need to be cooked into a syrup, etc. Heating elderberry gets rid of the cyanide or whatever it is!
My blacklace elderberry just refuses to grow. It has been three years and it grew 4 inches till date
