  • We all love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but...there are quite a few unexplained questions in the MCU. Why didn't Tony discover how his parents were murdered when HYDRA's files were leaked? Why did Thanos give away an infinity stone? How did Janet Pym survive in the Quantum Realm without eating?
We took these plot holes and more from our community page, and answer them for you!

I thought about that too, but they explain it. At the beginning of the first Avengers movie, Shield called director Nick Fury because the tesseract was handling unimaginable energy levels and, therefore, had been activated and was uncontrollable. This is what Maria Hill says to Nick at the beginning of the movie. Apparently there are moments in which the tesseract is activated and deactivated. When it is activated it is powerful, dangerous and harmful to ordinary humans, but when it is deactivated anyone can grab it.

Regarding Pym Particles: it’s canon in the comics that Hank Pym’s explanation of how the Pym Particles work (decreasing the space between atoms) is not true. He knows how they work, but his false description that he gives to others is to help prevent it from being replicated.

    • @mpjstuff

I also consider that maybe the mass of an object isn't just a function of the particles - it's a function of the "amount of space" occupied by the particle. In this sense; it's like every particle with mass is a tiny gateway to a place where gravity comes from. And in fact, if we consider that space itself has been expanding since the Big Bang -- it may actually be true. And -- all particles could actually be getting smaller as the Universe ages as Space expands -- it's really impossible to know.
It suggests that Mass is relative to space/time -- and we see this is true as mass increases with acceleration. And protons accelerated to nearly the speed of light gain more mass and size. In a sense; a larger particle then is acting like it is accelerating while standing still; gravity and acceleration are the same. So -- Pym particles then might work by moving the state of the particle in terms of energy forward or back in time -- and this is how it changes mass and size but the mass still acts as the same amount of particles.
I can see how actual physics might support this -- after feeling for many years it was a really bad abuse of science that it wouldn't maintain mass.

    • @croaker517

Wong did that, and mostly by accident. Dr Strange wasn't even there to see it, so its possible that he never considered that application of a portal. Also, Cull Obsidian was trying to get back through an existing portal that Wong simply closed. He didn't open it around Culls arm specifically to cut it off. In the middle of a fight like the one on Titan, opening up and maintaining a portal, in the hopes that he could get Thanos to stick his arm through it would have effectively taken Strange out of the fight completely, and everyone would have died.

    Note on ant-man shrinking explanation:
Density is the relationship between mass and volume. Your density increases if you keep the same mass but your volume is reduced (you shrink). Or if you grow your volume increases but your density is less.
Then you say that when Ant-man shrinks "he decreases his physical mass" with doesn't make sense with the comment and previous formula shown.
I think the tank and ant-man abilities might be explained by saying that pink particles affect density AND how acceleration/gravity is handled by the body/object and that the training and suit help the user to manipulate how acceleration effects that user.

    • @mjkleiman
      @mjkleiman Před 3 lety +8

Agreed. You can't change your mass -- that breaks the first law of thermodynamics, that energy/mass cannot be created or destroyed. The volume is changing (gets smaller or larger) which affects the density -- as volume decreases, density increases, because there is more mass (atoms) in a smaller area.
Furthermore, weight would stay constant, because mass is constant. The tank would retain all of its mass, and so would be INCREDIBLY heavy as a keychain.
Also, it's Pym particles, not pink particles :P

@@aravindarao9523 you can’t just GIVE something potential energy. Potential enery is a function of an accelerated field, it’s how much energy you would gain if you stop resisting the field and go back to ground state. PE does not work here
If you convert mass to energy it basically always turns into radiation. And shrinking space between the atoms still should not convert anything into radiation or energy. Its density and volume, just like the comment said. The explanation makes no sense.
What FORM of potential energy does he have? It’s not gravitational potential, nor electric potential energy. It could only really be intermolecular potential from squishing atoms together and keeping them close but for that energy to be released he has to grow bigger and let go of that energy.
Simply put, if you lose something - energy or mass- it must be gained by something else or released in a new form. Similarly, if you gain something, something else must lose it. If antman punches his arm would slow down like a real human would because his energy is transferred to the thing he punched. Kinetic energy is a function of mass. Less mass means like kinetic energy. He can’t punch harder if his mass is less, but if he punches with the same force his mass can’t be less. It’s self contradictory.
The movie wrote itself into a corner and I don’t think anyone has ever provided and actual scientific reason or even lore based reason for this because the concepts and applications with the movie itself conflict with each other becaus it’s inconsistent within it’s own story.
Antman punches with the force of a man over the area of a tiny fist for pressure. The tank should weigh down with the force of a tank. The physical explanation isn’t the largest issue. The physics don’t work because the movie doesn’t work.

      My theory
Reverse Engineering:- Weight of ant man decrease, as he walks on gun and it doesn't move down because of he's weight(same goes for tank, and building he put it in suitcase), Weight = Mass * gravitation, gravitation= 9.814(constant on earth), so Mass have to decrease 11:16 (i know mass doesn't changes but here it only option, i think not only distance between atoms but atoms size reduces too reduce size hence decreases mass too); density would be constant (density of blood should remain constant if it didn't blood wont circulate(as it get clot) and cell wont get ATP(energy) and eventually he will die), which means volume will decrease too(as mass decreased too) to make same density (density=(mass/volume)), here decrease in volume implies size gets smaller
in simple, Weight and maass changes, density doesn't
10:20 written on left "Pym particles shrinks distance between atoms" is completely wrong,
as Moosa said, 'Pym particles shrinks distance between atoms" would implies -> Weight doesn't, density changes
and its not possible(if Weight doesn't changes than tank would have same mass(hence weight) how could he lift tons of weight just by one hand) its Cleary wrong
(Moose derived arument is right from data he have, but date(statement) is wrong)
11:13 (mass is changed hence its changes weight as (weight = mass * gravitation)gravitation= 9.814)
      He totally wrong here
11:22 Potential energy idk what the f*ck he said here, potential energy increases because of mainly height on earth(for normal objects, mass and gravitation(if h is low) are not change )
      formula of Potential Energy (P.E.) = Mass*gravitation*Height
so he clearly wrong about it, its not based on living thing and non living thing, potential energy depends on mass, gravitation & height

Time travel is always a touchy subject in fiction, and rarely done well. In the MCU, they explain that changing the past doesn't affect the present, it creates alternate timelines. I think they messed up.
So I go in the past, pluck an infinity stone, and bring it to my present. I created an alternate timeline, where that infinity stone doesn't exist anymore. Time shouldn't stop in that timeline, just because I left. It carries on, and time passes in both my timeline, and the alternate timeline that I created.
Now if I go back in time again, and return the stone at the exact perfect time, seamlessly returning the stone where I got it, I now create a 3rd alternate timeline; likely identical to my original timeline (maybe they merge into one, "restoring it", not important). What is important is that, just as stated originally, going in the past of a timeline doesn't change its present (or future, however you want to look at it).
In other words, the 2nd timeline I created by removing the stone has continued on for a while now, and going in its past to return the stone won't undo it or change the outcomes that happened between me taking the stone, and me returning the stone. That's not how time travel works. That timeline moved on, without the stone, and there's literally no amount of time travel that can change that, based on the explanation made multiple times in Endgame.
At best, I could travel to the point in that timeline that would be considered "their present", and return the stone. Traveling to any other point in that timeline will only create other alternate timelines, leaving the original one as stoneless as it was when I took it in the first place.

    • @arandombard1197
      @arandombard1197 Před 3 lety +10

False. Trying to go back in time in your own timeline causes a new reality to be made. Nothing is said about time travelling forward. That should be perfectly possibe (in fact, we are both doing it right now). Travelling back to the alternative timeline BEFORE you left would indeed make another timeline but arriving afterwards will have no effect.
As for how time passes, I don't think you're properly comprehending time travel. There is no such thing as the 'present' or time moving forward. All time happens simultaneously. The alternative timelines aren't 'carrying on', they've already happened, are happening and will happen.

(Note: Read only if you understand science)
Reverse Engineering:- Weight of ant man decrease, as he walks on gun and it doesn't move down because of he's weight(same goes for tank, and building he put it in suitcase), Weight = Mass * gravitation, gravitation= 9.814(constant on earth), so Mass have to decrease 11:16 (i know mass doesn't changes but here it only option, i think not only distance between atoms but atoms size reduces too reduce size hence decreases mass too); density would be constant (density of blood should remain constant if it didn't blood wont circulate(as it get clot) and cell wont get ATP(energy) and eventually he will die), which means volume will decrease too(as mass decreased too) to make same density (density=(mass/volume)), here decrease in volume implies size gets smaller
in simple, Weight and mass changes, density doesn't
10:20 written on left "Pym particles shrinks distance between atoms" is completely wrong,
as Moosa said, 'Pym particles shrinks distance between atoms" would implies -> Weight doesn't, density changes
and its not possible(if Weight doesn't changes than tank would have same mass(hence weight) how could he lift tons of weight just by one hand) its Cleary wrong
(Moose derived argument is right from data he have, but date(statement) is wrong)

But the only way that makes sense is if the space is actually warped so that to the atoms, they are the same distance apart but to us, they are much closer.
(Otherwise that much compressed potential energy would cause a black hole)
So how can the density of objects just change willy nilly?
Easy. Mass is actually just the sum of all forms of energy in an object (according to Einstein's General Relativity)
So if pim particles can warp space, then the atoms of the tank can be way farther apart from their perspective, vastly decreasing the contained potential energy and therefore, its mass

The Doctor Strange teleport plot hole is still there. In Endgame he clearly teleports himself, the (un)dusted guardians, and Spiderman from Thanos' home world (you can see it through the portal). So if he could do it then, he could have also done the same as soon as they arrived there (even if opening a portal from the ship in hyperspace was impossible). For a suggested out, perhaps he had to use the time stone and all that alternate timeline searching to get his bearings, and then in the process began to notice that they kept losing whenever he teleported them all back home. Also, for those who will criticize him not having a clear visualization of his destination at the giant hole in the ground that was the remains of the Avengers compound, the same search of the timeline provided that too. :)

Hey you didn't really explin the Dr. Strange portal plothole, we see in Endgame he telelports back to earth and we know because of Spider FFH, that after they were snapped they return to where they were snapped. So that means Dr. Strange really open a portal back to Earth.

    • @asdkotable

Maybe Bruce made a special requirement when he re-snapped (which would make sense, considering how many people he'd doom by returning them to vehicles that were no longer where they were originally, or to buildings that no longer exist or whatever) for people to be returned to a safe place, and since Titan wasn't exactly a safe place for Dr. Strange and the gang, they were sent back to Earth instead?

Try this on for a size. In regards to the Mind Stone (Loki's scepter), what do we see it doing? It shows people how to achieve their goals. I.E. It shows Erik how to build his space bridge. I.E. It shows Hawkeye what needs to be done to get the Iridium. For Thanos, it showed him what needed to be done in order to bring the stones together, almost in the same way that Dr. Strange used the Time Stone to see the future.
Sure we see the Mind Stone also allows Loki to control others, but we never see this aspect after the Avengers. We do see it being used to create the Vision, and yes Wanda and Pietro gain abilities after exposure to it. In the case of Wanda and Pietro the abilities are completely different from each that it seems more reasonable that the Mind Stone simply unlocked abilities that they sub-consciously suppressed in themselves. As far as for Vision it also shows the Vision how to operate (in a sense) and therefore bringing him to life.

The music in GotG movies are not portrayed linearly either. Quill exported his music to the Ravenger ship he lived on so Rocket was able to play a track from it in Volume 2 but that track came from Starlord's first cassette he had since leaving Earth. The last track at the end of the first movie was on the second cassette his mother made so technically that's a Volume 2 song. And given that random human junk ends up on the galactic exchanges, like a Zune, Quill probably just bought batteries second hand there or there was technology sufficient to recharge the ones he had or new better ones crafted.

Okay, I enjoyed this, but two points:
    1. I’m doubtful Hela was a guardian of the Soul stone. No proof on either side I guess, but if that was the case I’m sure Odin would’ve had said something.
Also we’ve seen that Asgardians (eel at least Loki) can hold Infinity Stones with no ill-effect, so she wouldn’t have been deemed unworthy of their power. She is stronger than Thor, and at full-strength, probably stronger than Thanos, because she could just regenerate and grow stronger on Asgard.
It’s likely whoever the previous guardian was, they got released (died maybe) when The Red Skull took their place. It could be anyone, since we know the Tesseract has been around forever and many people have had access to it. Specifically it was on Earth, bestowed by Odin. A curious person could have easily tried to pick it up and use it.
    2. I hope you were joking about Quill and the Sovereign queen. I highly doubt they got together.
An easier, and more plausible explanation, is space science powered his Walkman. Quill is in space with far more advanced technology that also seems to be electricity-based. So he could easily find a replacement for those batteries, maybe even build make shift ones from the advanced tech he has access to. Or maybe the Ravagers did that for him. And considering it’s advanced tech they could plausibly power the Walkman for a long time.
The real plot hole is how the Walkman itself, earphones and tape survive all those years. It doesn’t seem like he’d want to upgrade or replace those parts, due to their sentimentality. But who knows.

With the Infinity Stones being sentient, chances are that the moment they sense (the tonnes sense) they are close to becoming pawns in a game that will see their powers to be collectively used for nefarious reasons they have put in place a guardian that they hope will cause the seeker of the Soul Stone (objectively the most difficult stone to locate and obtain) to walk away because the price asked is likely impossible considering most bad guys tend to be loners with no true ties to family, friends or loved ones that are the worthy sacrificial equivalent.

I imagine anyone in a society where spaceships and warp tech exists could easily manufacture a new battery that lasts for decades that can fit the walkman, especially when Quill can provide them the actual batteries to serve as a design blueprint to be reverse engineered. The Ravagers had a full machine shop and maintenance facility for servicing their fighters on board with all the tools needed for Quill to even do it himself if needed. Less of a plot hole as just not addressed on screen.
