I don’t know how old you are but I’m in my 40’s and went through the same thing. Even got physically abused and it’s really hard to forget the past no matter what age. The best thing to do is LEAVE THAT FAMILY! They caused you pain and it will never end. They are toxic MF’s. Just find a new life somewhere and make new chapters for yourself. Meet people with good intentions and values. Get successful in your own way and don’t every share your success with the ones who hurt you. Also, learn about all the personality disorders there are in the world. It will save you from letting just anyone come into your life. From here on out, take care of you first.

Not necessarily spending a lot of time together, but maybe having a phone periodically to say hello, be supportive, do the minimum to maintain a friendship. it obviously depends on if she is in a relationship or who she is with. Any woman who is with me would already be made aware of any women i have a friendship with. Ideally she would have an opportunity to see first hand how me and those women interact with one another. I have just learned that it's best to be upfront with all of the things that most people typically hide from who the person they are with.
