- Had a problem that started with the coolant pressurising then went into actually blowing bubbles into the header tank. Here is what was wrong.

Thanks for this video. Helped me no end psychologically about having this head job done.
Bloody brilliant brother.. loved the 'can do' attitude! We all gota be more like this. Much learnt from yu, thank you
Fair play to you fella, wish i had half your knowledge 👍
Nice job sl good to see it back..👍👍
Great video mate. Maybe not a how to but certainly gives me the confence needed to have a go. Well done
Well done bruv more of a clue than many of us lol 👍🙏
Awesome video n workmanship.. 👍👌👌
Great work and nice van ATB
Well done for doing all this yourself! Iv done many jobs like this my self as I'm quite a keen home mechanic and too tight to pay some one to do a job I can do myself. But, iv never refitted a used cambelt regardless of how old it is. Its just not worth the risk! Iv re used dual mass flywheels and even bought secondhand ones as its low risk, but never re fitted a used cambelt. Risky business! Still a great job done tho and a sick van to boot. 👌
Excellent video, gives me the confidence to get the same done to my t5, even though I have a 2.5, but I've read they are more prone to head deformation as they are longer.
Many thanks Lee 👍🚐💨💨💨
Good work bro! 👊
The most talented guy ever
Strong words lol... 😳
Something about doing a job like that yourself and the money you save of course. Nice one.
Great video. Any special tools other than locking key. Where did you get torque figures from? Thanks
Great video. Glad it's running ok now. Please keep the videos coming. 😎
Really nice video, you dealt with a problem that would have had most people going to the garage and spending a fortune!
Saved myself a good £1000 👍
The worrying thing for me would be getting the cam timing correct but you made it look easy👍
Needed a special lock tool for the crank though. A tenner off eBay
@@SpyderLEE hence getting the recon head with the money saved on labour 👍
Hi great vid have the same problem where did you get the cylinder head from and have you had any probs since cheers
Hi Mate. I'm pulling mine off my 1.9 BRR. Same symptoms. Quick one - to check flatness of the head with a straightedge/feelers - is that a machinist's straight edge or a woodworker's square? Have you got a link for something that would work? Cheers mate, appreciate the videos. I never got round to doing an MR2 but have watched your vids with interest.
I've got air bubbling in the reservoir, but I've only looked as I get temperamental heat from the blower and was feeling the pipe. I also get the red engine temp light come on every so often.
Any connection ??????
Hi there is this a 1.9 axb and if yes how did you get torque specs to put cams on cylinder head or timing . Is there a website . Thanks I. From australia
good job
Hello i`ve encountered same problem and ordering from darkside but unsure which head gasket is the right one...How do i check for the holes
Great video
The confidence and nonchalance you had was really impressive.
Is the van still running and did you have any other problems with the head / gasket?
Cheers!
Van is still fine. A Little black smoke since then but all good
How much will it cost to get it done thankyou
Spyder, I noticed that when the head was separated from the block, everything was very clean (pots and valves). Do you use a fuel additive every time you fill up? Cheers.
You said the head lifted due to a remap. What power are you running? As I am looking to do a map. Love your projects.
Hi, the head lifted but I don’t think it was the remap. It’s a common fault on the pd engine at high mileage. I’m running around 150bhp can’t remember the exact number without looking.
Hi mate, having the same issues, being rinsed by my local garage, and to top it of just had to replace turbo. Where did you get the remand head from? 🙏🏻
I got it from eBay. I found someone with decent feedback. Can’t remember who
Nice bus
Well done I say if you had no idea lol
Any good Engine Build / Tuning Shop could have done the Same Work on your Original Head, Clean, Pressure Test,Skim, Vstems Valves Recut in ..RU getting Original Done keep as a Spare?
Dont forget to to Re Check the Torque on the Head Bolts after 100 Miles ish
Bubbling Water in the Coolant Jobby was the Up n Down of the Pistons , you can get a Coloured Liquid to Add to Water n run Engine , itll tell you if Heads gone by Changing Colour, handy to have
On the Shelf if you Suspect it again , hopefully not .
Used to keep it in my Breakdown Kit as a Easy Quick Diagnosis
Good bit of info cheers 👍. Old head going back on exchange. To be honest the recon one was cheaper than getting mine done.
Hi we’re did you source the head from and how much was it great content by the way
It was just a random head from eBay. But if you check my videos over the last year you’ll see I changed the engine. The problem came back!
Cracking
Quick question.. How long did this job take you. Thx👍
Probably about 16 hours altogether. Could probably do it in half that now though
As always great info....Are you feeling better now you got your new head on ? :) :)
Lol yep 😂
@@SpyderLEE stay cool and keep on sending.
Where did you get reconditioned head from ?
Random off eBay
I have a 05 T5 ,Leaking water,internally,not leaking on the ground,no oil in expansion bottle,no steam out the exhaust,runs fine,not missing...anyone any ideas???
I’m just in the middle of this. Did you swap the injectors over or get a garage to do it?
John Straw I did it. I just kind of stuck them in and hoped for the best. I need to set up the gaps properly really on the cam but it runs ok so meh 🤷♂️
How did you get them out?
John Straw if I remember correctly I used a massive screwdriver as a wedge. Stuck it under one end and tapped it with a hammer. Angle it so it slips across but lifts the injector as the screwdriver bit gets fatter if you know what I mean.
Lee just took the head of mine as the cambelt snapped just taking it to a machine shop how did you re time the engine ?
Mechanicalnut I bought an engine lock tool off eBay to set the crank and used an Allen key in the hole on the cam
Lee need you , can you advise how you timed it before entering the tools I.e setting to tdc ?
Mechanicalnut the crank locking tool sets the piston tdc . And the putting the pin in the cam sprocket sets the top.
I read the Haynes and looked at it and couldn’t believe it was that simple that’s why I asked thanks mate
Hello please can help me?
Lee, what’s the mileage on your van now ?
220 something
I wasnt so fortunate.. replaced head gasket even though I found out it was my water pump leaking.. finished the job to find out my head gasket is flipped wrong way round, what a dissapointment.. water pissing right out as soon as I pour some in.. gutted.
Re-fitting gasket tomorrow, out in the free, ing weather 🥶🥶
Ah that’s not good. To be honest mine didn’t last. If you look on my newer videos I’ve ended up changing the engine
@@SpyderLEE Damn.. what went wrong with the old one?
@@thepio14343SWEG same problem again so decided new engine was the best fix
@@SpyderLEE Thats so odd, I hear stories of people buying refurbed heads and them not lasting... And others reusing heads with no rebuilds driving no issues. Just a pattern I observed. I have re used mine with no skim, done on a budget.. however fitted pd150 bolts & nee gasket.. engine works well and plans for more boost comming 💨💨😂
hmmm... had no idea VW made a diesel micro-van
In the van in Cornwall now. Hope this video doesn’t jinx me. :) have drive to Manchester in a day.
Lol you’ll be fine. Mine was playing up before I went there 😁👍
@@SpyderLEE made it back OK, I'll let you off. 🙂
