  • Yamaha XT600Z Tenere, 1988', the last of air cooled Teneres, model 3AJ on the 1VJ frame, bit over 23000 km and running in excellent condition. Officially registered as an oldtimer here in Zagreb, Croatia.
The frame is sand blasted and powder coated. This was the only step I did not do myself. Before this step, everything needed to mount 3AJ components on the 1VJ frame was prepared and verified. While mounting everything back, wiring harness was checked and repaired where needed, joints lubricated, and plastic and rubber parts replaced where necessary. Original paint of all components is preserved, only a clear coat was applied over the plastic parts and stickers. The seat is completely in original state. It is the Tenere as rolled out back then from the Iwata factory.
Small damage to the failring and micro dent on the tank is shown in the video.
She has got new tyres and tubes, new Motobat gel battery, DID endless gold chain and sprockets front and back, new chain slider and roller, new air and oil filter (all components from KEDO)
New steel braided brake lines are mounted (KEDO), original ones are stored, not looking bad at all.
New rear disk and disk pads front and back, of course with oil flush and change for breaks, engine, and front fork. The fork was disassembled and checked, as all other components. The engine was untouched, other then valve check (within specs) and spark plug change. The original clutch is still there.
Everything possible is lubricated (joints, swingarm, wheel bearings, you name it)...The tank is treated with POR15 and super sealed, no rust in sight. Actually I do have two tanks, and both are treated the same. New fuel tap seals are installed. New voltage regulator is mounted instead of original, but with larger cooling area. Another regulator is mounted on the rear fender, with same connector, so the bike is having two regulators that are easy to switch over. The other one is Mosfet series type with thermal and short circuit protection. There is no chance it would burn short and killed the stator in the process. New spark plug.
USB charger with two outputs is mounted on the handlebar, wires pulled directly from the battery with the separate fuse in line. Same goes for the Optimate connector for charging the battery, or using the electric air compressor and what not...Additional superseal connector is brought to the dashboard with the separate fuse.
The toolkit is compete and original. Same key is used for the ignition, tank, and helmet holder. Rims are in perfect condition, no aluminium cancer inside, or any kind of damage.
Around 1000 km is driven after all this, at the time of publishing this video, commuting, mountain backroads, gravel roads, and light off road tracks. The engine is pulls from low revs, does not stall or backfire (both with original and Arrow exhaust), idles nicely, does not consume oils or produce smoke, fuel economy when driving backroads in crusing mode is around 4.5 - 5 l/100km, closer to 6 in stop and go city traffic.
There are lot of spare parts and additional components available (already mentioned, tank, complete 1VJ engine, another headlight same as original, gold rims from the 1VJ with new hub and disk rear, bark busters, double take mirrors, another seat...the idea was to preserve the original state while using the bike for what it was intended :-)
Hepco & Becker side carriers are mounted too. High fender from the 1VJ is available as an option.

Ništa čudno. Yamaha je poznati proizvođač vrhunskih glazbenih instrumenata..
