“Enjoy,” is not quite the term I can use. Though sometimes you can be highly entertaining, in the right context. “Value,” “Benefit from,” “Learn from,” and feel a sincere gratitude for, certainly. But, let’s face it? We all WISH we, none of us, had to be here. But, it’s those who get up and go there, when so many of their peers would rather not, who could have a much easier life by just letting things roll over or by them, yet they stand up and are counted, without ever counting the cost . . . people like you . . . those people are so necessary now. You have my abiding thanks.
Please forgive and be patient with me if my gratitude may seem a little too effusive? It is sincere. I know I am not unique in feeling deeply disturbed by the images of a teenage girl, shell shocked, sitting in the wreckage of her home in which her parents were yet to be found in the rubble, several flaws above the street, looking down into the horrified faces of an equally shell shocked community below. There is nothing special about me. So, I know I must be speaking for so many when I say that the feeling of horror and impotence to intercede takes it’s emotional toll on so many thinking people.
This channel and others like it (though this channel has no other quite like it) provide an outlet for those of us who, “need,” to do more than simply offer money and write to their politicians. It is not just the relief of hearing adult, honest, realistic analysis, nor the reassurance of seeing by the list of your guests that there are so many people in real positions of authority working hard to remedy Ukraine’s plight. For me, at least, the soothing balm is that I can write a response and interact with other decent human beings. Even if I my comment overlooked or ignored and I simply screaming into the void, the mere act of expressing my feelings is a relief.
Every time I see an image, like the horrors of Buchar, or the recent bombings, I picture my home town, here in Scotland and see it vividly in my imagination. My wife admonishes me that I am making myself ill and she’s probably right, to an extent. But even in that, I know I am not alone. I cannot be the only person who sees their own children being raped, tortured, robbed and murdered by these undisciplined Russian marauders with a practically medieval attitude to warfare. There will be others who cannot get these thoughts and images out of their heads, who take them to their work, their play and are woken by them in the nights, surely? You simply cannot know that this is happening on your doorstep and not see how easily this could be you, or can you?
I promise I won’t, “outpour,” like this on a regular basis. But I thought it might be something you would want to know about what you’re doing for people that might not be obvious to you? From your enthusiasm, your deep knowledge, your sharing of your equally deep experience, and by interviewing people from all walks of life who can speak with experience and knowledge about this conflict, you are also having a MASSIVELY morale boosting effect on people like me; lifting my spirits and proving that humanity is not yet a lost cause.
I have tried to express something intangible (very poorly I fear) about the sociological, psychological value of your unique (long overdue) channel. It’s value cannot be calculated in gold.
For me, personally, I needed this. Thank you, from my soul, thank you.

@@apmassaro3Can you please elaborate in what way does the Ukraine fight for let’s say Spain or the US or Iceland? And the answer cannot be “well if they aren’t fiighting for those countries per se, they are fighting for democracy” because people in for example Germany were against sending Leopards and the govmnt still sent them. However people want to look at it, now these countries are actively in this war, this is now a NATO v Russia war where the rest of the world that isn’t Europe & US looks at it and thinks that they are more alike the Russians than the West. This is now a problem for the West due to escalation.

    • @thorn6809
      @thorn6809 Před rokem

Those countries you mentioned are all NATO members.
The majority of the German public is in favor of sending tanks to Ukraine.
Sending weapons to support a country in need is a part of the Human Rights Laws and the same laws assure that in this case the donating country does not become a party of the war.
It dosen't matter what opinion the russian goverment has in this case, they are not above the Human Rights Laws.
Most of the members of the UN have agreed on condemning the russian aggression against Ukraine.

@@tindobranic4791 Whatever, however when the rest of the world outside US & Europe looks at it, they should be very concerned about not wanting to help & support the west as to do otherwise would be to live in a world where every "rich & technologically advanced" "1st world nation" is rearming for war, not sure anyone in the south is educated enough, beyond "how much more money does dodgy ccp deals bring in that western transparent deals" to understand that this stuff only happened in world wars, and their countrys would get rolled over in one.

I think you're right here 8:15 about Ukraine's natural resources and that Ukraine and Germany as well as other partners will benefit from investing in it as the war ends. Ukraine still has a large natural gas pipeline network which also makes this idea appealing, if we're talking gas here of course 😄

I'm German. You're pretty much right. The energy prices rise.
This is not just due to the war and the shift to more expensive LNG gas. It's also because of the shift to renewables that is forced by government while still ending nuclear energy.
Since our geography is not well suited for renewables, there are huge additional costs to make them work. And we rely heavily on coal which is the only big backup energy source.
In EU the CO2 taxation is planned to increase further and all signs indicate that energy costs will rise further.
In my view, this will end the german industry model. We want to improve into a high tech industry but since US is already attraction chip giants and our education system struggles it's quite unclear if or how much we will succeed.

Germany has natural gas in contrast to popular belief. The country can be self sufficient for about 50 to 60 years. German politicians don't want to see it extracted from the ground for two reasons: 1) They believe in climate change and this homegrown gas is the only gas they can guarantee to stay away from the atmosphere. 2) Germany exports far to much products and has therefore a huge trade imbalance. Therefore it needs to import something and that is energy and raw materials.

Many people talk about a deindustrialization of Germany these days. I think they fairly overestimate the influence of energy prices in the overall economy. Germany had already a strong performing economy before gas pipelines from Russia have been built and it will find alternative ways to run business again. This is not the first time a business model had to be changed and it won't be the last.

I think Ukraine will do spectacularly after the war no matter what happens. I think tourism alone will lift Ukraine to new heights, as Ukraine went from a country few knew anything about or even heard of, to a country many now admire and are learning about for the first time and seeing on TV how beautiful Kiev looks.
The only thing Ukraine really needs to get a grip on is corruption. I think Zelenski is doing a good job at weeding that out, but the culture itself must change! So many sacrificed to save Ukraine. Every corrupt act, no matter how small, must be viewed as disrespecting those who gave their life. After all this suffering it simply can not be tolerated and must be stomped out ruthlessly.

The trans Atlantic deal previously had all sorts of sub clauses that would been terrible for nationalised services and great for American corporations.
People in the EU see USA people as allies, it's government as an ally except when it's been influenced by corporations. USA corporations are not allies, they regularly flaunt our laws and violate our rights (USA citizens too). In the EU we don't want more of that.
