Living in zone 3 on the Canadian Prairies presents unique challenges for homesteading and herbalism. The harsh climate, dry and nutrient-poor soil, and risk of drought are just a few of the obstacles we face. However, we have found ways to adapt, using new technologies, crop genetics, and gardening techniques. We also source plants from other regions and dry and store them for future use. We are excited to share these tips and techniques with you.
We are inspired by our grandfather, who taught us the value of determination and the importance of living in harmony with nature. His love for gardening and herbalism has stayed with us throughout our lives, and we are honored to carry on his legacy.
On our channel, you will find a variety of videos, including tutorials on homesteading for beginners, organic gardening methods, permaculture, and backyard farming for food security. We also share tips on natural living, eco-friendly living hacks, and traditional skills for modern homesteaders. Our herbalism videos cover topics such as homemade remedies, herbal medicine for natural healing, and wildcrafting.

Incredible garden tower results, Cody! I agree leafy greens are the way to go. Maybe some herbs too (basil, oregano). I do lots of sprouts indoors, but my family hasn't taken the hint and bought me a garden tower yet. 😉

Did you say 20,000 tulips ?!?
Totally agree on Cut and come again. Have you ever tried Salanova? It's excellent. Huge nutrient density was one of the most popular sellers at the farm last year !!
Have a great weekend Cody !!

Most of the iron (Fe EDTA) in the solution will be available upto PH 6, at PH 6.5 only half will be available and at PH 7 almost none will be available. Most nutrients use Fe DTPA which keep more iron available at higher PH. The most stable is Fe EDDHA, but its also the most expensive and it tends to stain everything pink. I prefer my roots pure white so i use DTPA :)

The thing with PH is that it is affected by what the plants take from the nutrient solution. For example, if they uptake nitrate (NO3) the solution PH will rise. If they uptake potassium (K) the PH will fall. Monitoring the PH can provide useful feedback. For example toms will uptake a huge amount of potassium prior to flowering and fruiting, which will be reflected in the PH falling instead of rising. If you are not aware of it, it could leave the nutrient solution light on potassium for both the toms and the other plants in the system.
