  • The Ultimate El Presidente search continues, this time I'm testing out Banks 5 Island rum versus the old stand by Probitas (Veritas). Who will emerge victorious?? I'm using the regular El Presidente recipe I've been using lately
    1.5 oz rum
    .75 oz Blanc Vermouth
    .5 oz Orange Curacao
    1 Bar Spoon Grenadine.
    Cheers!

Love trying head to head cocktails with different spirit variations, I've a few videos in the works which will come out in the next while doing exactly that!

Uncle Pete, so helpful. Really great to see head-to-head spirit comparisons in cocktails. Always nice to have a go-to and an alternative to shake things up.

@@UnclePete I hope your next El Presidente is enjoyed with Auntie Susan dancing to Bruno Mars and your hands cradling a half empty bottle of Selvarey White.

OOH I can get Selvarey here! Maybe I'll give it a go!

I had Bordiga this past spring on vacation on Cape Cod. They served it to accompany the main entree at the end to cleanse the palate before dessert. It was pleasant! Try with food.

I’ve been liking it, but I think it’s getting old now. Some vermouths go south a bit as you know.

I flew back home (US) for one of the first times in 25 years, thanks to Uncle Pete, I had to try the Probitas and HOLY MOLY - that might be the best Tiki rum I have ever had an opportunity to imbibe - Unfortunately, I can't get it shipped to Ol Blighty so I will have to add this to my visit home list - thank you for the tip!

Oh man it is SOO good! A great blend that is classy but affordable. A little surprised it isn't available in England, but the world is a confusing place. Cheers!

Wonderful. I'm still following as well as I can on this El Presidente journey. Every time I cruise the liquor store scene here in San Francisco I look for Probitas but no dice. But I have to buy SOMETHING and I don't get through bottles THAT quickly (quickly enough, though) so every time I strike out it's another couple months until I can try again. I don't think I've actually found a great white rum for this one, but so far my favorite is Diplomatico (plus, easy to find) though it's Venezuelan and so I'm not even sure if I'm in the right ballpark. The vermouth, curçao, and grenadine are pretty sweet, so I tend to like a drier rum.
The secret weapon, though, is C. Comoz vermouth blanc which I adore not only in El Presidente but in wetter martini riffs. And the other secret weapon is homemade grenadine, which is one of the handful of concoctions I've braved since discovering your no-rules channel, so thank you for that. POZITIVE FEEDBACK-ACK!

      HUZZAH!!
      C. Comoz is so good, I drank it really fast, I might go back to it when this bottle is done.
If you can't find Probitas, try to find Banks 5, Cana Brava, Denizen 3 year, Brugal might suit you, or Rum Bar Silver perhaps?

I don't know if this makes sense for you but I do get stuff from Astor Wines now and then, and I think shipping is free on the first order, just saying.
