      Come on, we don't know these people in real life. You probably don't even know how YOU would behave if you walked into that room, in front of all these cameras. It must be really stressful and it's definitely not an everyday situation, I'm pretty sure none of these people were being their usual selves. I think we shouldn't get to judge their personality, much less emotional intelligence, based on one video

Statistically, the highest IQ majors are math, physics, and philosophy (engineering and computer science are related to math & physics). True but I feel like it’s not that we’re “not smart”, it’s that there’s so much to learn in each field. In higher education, almost everything is broken down into a science so that it can be researched. There’s just an endless amount of things to learn about the world (and universe). It’s also constantly changing and the way we study it is changing with new technology. Before exploring a career or topic, you feel like you’ve got it all figured out. Then you get into it and understand the range and how connected everything is as well as the variables that play a role. Especially when you study the origin or history. The universe is so vast. :-)

    PhDs mean you're very knowledgeable about the one thing your PhD discusses. Five minutes in I knew she wouldn't be the smartest - smart people don't mouth-off. She reminds me so much of my ex-friend from high school who prided herself on being intelligent and then hated anyone who was more knowledgeable than her about anything. I really loved her and then found out she hated me because I was rank 1 in our history class while she was always rank 2 or 3 (which is still pretty fucking good???). The funny thing is, I think I only did better than her because I was more receptive to criticism on my work while she was adamant that she did things right. After we graduated she said she didn't want to be friends with me or my best friend because we made her feel "intellectually inferior" but wanted to remain friends with two of our other friends because they made her feel "intellectually superior". Suffice to say she now has no close friends. She also considered herself to have high EQ lmao.

      That's not hypocritical, he wasn't implying that doing bad at school means you are dumb at everything, the mention of school wasn't in an "educational" context, it was a physical location he was at in the past. He went to school, then joined the military. That's it, so any stories from before the military would begin "when I was at school" because he doesn't have any other place where he would have met people, besides maybe a sports club or such but that wouldn't really have been relevant to the question.
      It's effectively just a saying, a time period, "when I was at school (when I was between 4 and 18)" rather than "if you failed inside the main educational establishment you will fail outside it" which is obviously not what he believes.
      What is ACTUALLY interesting was that it upset you enough to write this comment complaining but missed the fact he followed it up by saying that that would make that person probably the most confident person there.

    Maria was literally expecting to be the smartest purely based off her education alone. What she doesn’t realize is like… so for example, doctors have a lot of education, but it doesn’t mean that the doctor standing in front of you has a high IQ. I’ve literally met doctors that had zero common sense, and the reality is remember the doctor that graduated lowest in his class STILL can be out there practicing on patients. Providing care to patients. She’s equating her education = high iQ and for being so “intelligent”, that’s a stupid thing for Maria to do.

    • @lawfence11
      @lawfence11 Před 7 měsíci +8

      I would differentiate medical doctors a bit, MD/DO admissions are way more competitive than most if not all other doctoral programs. At the end of the day, IQ tests are another standardized test and the people scoring 80th+ percentile on the MCAT, passed their board exams, would likely do well on it. Yes, you will find terrible people and people lacking common sense in all fields, but that has nothing to do with IQ or the “last in the class” medical grad. The “last in the class” student is highly qualified and could very well be a great doctor/person.
      Maria, while cocky, I’m sure is certainly very knowledgeable in her field, spent a lot of time to get where she’s at, and it’s not like she didn’t score above average too. This just happened to be a “smart” lineup.

    Some people don’t seem to realize that knowledge is not the same as intelligence. I think that’s what military guy was trying to get at with his definition, but they were so hung up on education (which mostly increases your knowledge) being a determining factor that they misjudged him and the blonde girl.
    Also, while other metrics of intelligence exist (EQ, etc.) it’s kind of irrelevant to argue those in a video focused on IQ since there is no way to factor those into the final ranking.

    • @bleedingcowboys7147

      Btw Sade did a reaction video and mentioned that Tyler said a lot of very questionable/incorrect things that were edited out of the final video. The final cut doesn't really show why they said/voted in a certain way. They didn't vote him low cos of the military (a lot of people in the military are obviously very smart).
      Also the ASVAB is (like most tests) extremely flawed and doesn't really measure intelligence. Like all tests, it measures how well you take tests - not intelligence. Certain people are automatically blacklisted from most tests (if they have a learning difficulty for example) despite being very intelligent. I scored 95 and my friends also took it as a joke and all ranked above 90. Lots of people I've spoken to have said that it's not as difficult as people give it credit for.

That test was made in 1968 and revised every year to still make it a good standardization. To this day above 50 is average anything above 60 is above average 8 out of 10 fail their first time and you fail at 30. When the scoring was made the had half a million people take it to make the percentages and anything in the bottom 30% would not qualify for the military. Lastly the jobs you can get all fall under what you scored so he could have done anything in the military with a score like that. I qualified for my dream job and I got a 65.
