    • @Zetact_
      @Zetact_ Před 3 měsíci +10

      @@WavemasterAshi It doesn't take that much effort. Something to the extent of "playmats that feature artwork on them, other than officially licensed Yu-Gi-Oh artwork." There. Done. You can still use custom playmats if they either don't have artwork (like many cloth mats) or get a custom mat that has actual card art on it, but it covers the blanket of all lewd mats. It would still severely limit what accessories could be brought and would frankly still be criticized but it would still allow for custom mats, the only stipulation is that the only artwork that could be used would be things that Konami has direct oversight on.

    To clarify, LEWD ART WAS ALREADY BANNED. Their argument is that too many people were still breaking that rule, meaning they were spending too much time checking everyone's mats and sleeves, so now no customs whatsoever are allowed.
    My counterpoint, however: won't they still now check if the mat you're using is a solid colour or official? Won't it still take just as much time? The reasoning is clearly BS, they just want people to buy the official product rather than their own custom stuff.
    I own custom mats based around my other hobbies and interests, it's a way to express more of myself within the community. I get a lot of people were bringing inappropriate material to a game advertised for ages 6+, but the rules already in place should have just been enough. It can't take that long for even just 4-5 staff to walk past 1,000 people sat neatly at tables and flag down anyone they see with inappropriate art.

      It is a lot easier to see from across a hall if a mat or sleeve is solid color or not and judges are probably expected to know what yugioh art looks like as well as the logo, that is easier and more concert definitions to work with rather than use ambiguous "I know it when I see it" arguments.

    • @Vanitas42
      @Vanitas42 Před 2 měsíci +1

      you would have a point, except here is the thing:
      1) Usually Qualifiers and YCSs usually provide a free participation rubber mat and set of sleeves anyway. they make no money from that.
      2) It’s only at Qualifiers and YCSs only. anything lower like locals or regionals you are still fine with custom (though come on, lay off lewd accessories. it really is cringe).
      And at the very least, as those are the two events it would affect (as they are the ones broadcast), it at least makes sense even if it is inconvenient for some.

    • @heftylad
      @heftylad Před 2 měsíci

      @Vanitas42 that does make sense tbf, them requiring you to use what they ask when they're broadcasting the event. Still a shame not to be able to use your own art for the whole event because of it; although I get it would be a pain to make everyone in a feature match resleeve their double-sleeved main, side and extra lmao

    • @Vanitas42
      @Vanitas42 Před 2 měsíci

      @@heftylad my solution for double sleeved would be use slim fit sleeves for Japanese size cards for the inner layer (preferably clear to work with heir rules and avoid any possibility of art showing through a top layer), that way you can easily put them in the sleeves they provide and keep them double sleeved.
      so if they provide them, easily slip on the outer layer. if they don’t, just have a pack of solid color sleeves (like dragon shield or something) ready to go just in case

    I don't play competitive Yu-Gi-Oh, but this is just stupid. We spend lots of money just to get the necessary cards for our decks, meaning that we won't have enough to buy any new mats or sleeves. If we did buy mats and sleeves that are unofficial or solid, then what are we going to use? Play Yu-Gi-Oh like were kids who can't afford any sleeves and mats?!

    This is pretty dumb, for sure. Let's be honest, the only thing that should be hit is playmats with characters that have a lot of skin showing. Konami may not do bikini cards, but we should be allowed to have most playmats. I have Hunter X Hunter playmat that is normal, I should be able to use it. People are allowed to enjoy things and show them off. Deal with the problem, not everyone else. Just have guidelines for this that you educate judges on. I get the feeling this is to boost the sales of their card sleeves... that in my experience don't last that long. This cash grab designed to protect players will absolutely backfire.

    • @scott898586
      @scott898586 Před 3 měsíci

      @@michaelkeha This isn't it. It is clear they are going scorched earth because of the subjective nature of "lewd" items. These words have definitions, but what one draws the line at for being lewd, another might not. There are people who don't see full blown nudity as lewd. Depending on the context, they might be correct. It is pretty clear that people abused the subjective nature of this with over the top big anime boob mats, or sexually suggestive positions regardless of the amount of clothing. If you don't see that as part of the problem I do not know what to tell you. But just by looking up the definitions of the words you would think it would be pretty clear what not to do. It is always people trying to circumvent or bend the rules because they don't like being told no. Because of that, the ones that didn't do anything wrong get punished as well at those events only and only in those areas. It sucks, but you should be mad at the people that caused this, not the ones having to deal with it this way. The game is over 20 years old. There has been plenty of time for these people to figure it out and stop.

    This was done to satisfy the legal department. The acceptable list is as short as it is to completely avoid players skirting the line AND also removes the ability to play gotcha games with judges and tournament officials. While there may be a chance that these rules get refined or modified, this move is more "Throw it all in the dumpster, torch the dumpster, and start over" than anything else.
    But this is where we are now.

  • @jacobperkins2370

    Let's look at the bright side of this. Using genetic accessories means that if your possessions get lost or stolen, it doesn't hurt that much. I have Konami Dragonmaid sleeves and Konami Dragonmaid field center. My playmat isn't lewd, it's the Dragonmaids as they appear in the card art. I spent a fair amount of money on my things, I would rather take genetic accessories than loose any of my EXPENSIVE, custom or not, accessories.

  • @tensai_kodai

    Don't they check your decklist for the banlist before you play? Why don't they just check these accessories at that time, too? I get *some* weirdos insist on having gross custom stuff, but most players probably have really cool custom works of art they paid for. Plus, doesn't Konami already create scantily clad anime girls in all their cards? Seems like an excuse to charge people more money for official stuff.
