Just a little niggle: Uruguay's team is nicknamed "Los Teros", not "Toros". So, not bulls, but rather southern lapwings, the national bird of Uruguay.
Thank you for the correction🙂
The French wins over the All Blacks in the 1999 semi finals and 2007 quarter finals were some of the most shocking upsets that I can remember. I remember being a kid in NZ in 1999 and it was like the entire nation was in shock.
In 2007 I was in Thailand with a group and we went to a bar in Bangkok to watch the game. After losing one of the guys started dry retching into the gutter on the walk home 😂
The French were 8/1 to beat New Zealand in 1999.
People arent giving Fiji enough credit, they are a good team and have been building in recent years with all of their players playing first class rugby and are some of the best in the World. Australia on the other hand are on a downward spiral so one shouldn't be surprised Fiji beat them. So saying that, I still have Japan beating South Africa in 2015 as the biggest upset. Boks were one of the favourites to win and this was meant to be a walk over for them.
I'm Welsh and Wales have had Fiji in their pool at every World Cup since 2007 and, apart from one blip in 2011, it's always so tough. Every time we draw them I think "fuck sake, not again". I always say other 'tier 1' (hate this term but you understand me) nations don't rate them as highly as they should because they never have to play them-it's always us and Australia! This year was the closest battle since they beat us in 2007, I can only hope they're someone else's problem finally in the 2027 pools😂
Yeah, the brighton miracle is undoubtedly the biggest upset that I have lived through.
Japan beating Ireland would be on par with Fiji beating Wales simply because I rank Japan as being below Fiji and the Irish team in 2019 as better than this Australian team.
"They've now won three, but the never mention it" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 very good mate
😂😂😂 .....you made my day...thanks...can't stop laughing...toso viti toso...
I don't get it
@@sonicv549 It's Sarcasm as South Africans are vocal about having 3 WCs
Yes, we have 3 World Cups, urll tend to forget sometimes😅
Yes, very good. Have I mentioned that we have 3 world cups, though?
2007 RWC Argentina 17 - France 12
My dad told me at the 95 World Cup he went with his friends a couple of times to go and heckle at New Zealand outside of their hotel and there was at least always 100 other people doing the same and they didn’t get very much sleep because of that
I will never forget de SA - Japan match from 2015. I still remember it as one of the most exciting matches of any sport I've ever seen, and I'm not even from either country.
2023: Fiji vs Australia 22-15
or maybe a biggest upset is coming soon?
Hopefully we get another upset cos this WC been a bit full apart from that game and Ireland v SA
@@russoswerve7856 For me that wasnt upset cause that match was tought.
Wales beating Wallabies was another Upset so Wallabies are becoming the Kings of 2023 upsets hahaha
@@f.a.b.m.7669 I’d hardly call it an upset! Australia have been poor and are on a downward slope. Anyone watching this WC new wales was going to put it on the Aussies
Portugal 24-23 Fiji
2023 almost had yet ANOTHER Walse upset.. vs Fiji. If the last pass of the game was not knocked on, but caught, Fiji potentially win the game (with a converted kick).
Wouldn't have technically been an upset as Fiji was ranked better at the time
I'd say Wales beating Fiji WAS an upset, Fiji by far and away the best team in the pool yet Wales still held on, everyone thought we'd finish 3rd but we've surprised everyone
@@SGMiner21 i would rather say australia surprised everyone by how bad they were lol
We are all here for 7:35
91 - Aus beat NZ
95 - Eng beat Aus - Possible mention
99 - FRA beat NZ in Semi Final
07 - ARG beat FRA
19 - Japan beat Ireland and Scotland to win pool
2007 Argentine even did it twice
I don't think 1991 was an upset at all. Look at the Bledisloe Cup from that year (and then consider that NZ's best player sat out the semifinal). I can't think of many All Blacks who would have started for that Australia team. Zinzan Brooke, maybe a front rower or three, any number of people for Rob Egerton.
Great video 👍 this is paced a lot better than your older videos and is much easier to follow. Especially for someone who's first language is not English (like me)
Glad you enjoyed it!
France beating ABs was a way bigger upset than Wales v Samoa. Wales were basically already through, just needed to not lose by 30 points to go through top of the pool, It was a shock result but it was almost a nothing game. New Zealand just finished their rebuild after a transitional year and were overwhelming favourites to win the whole thing, France came last in the Five Nations and then only just finished top of their easy RWC group (with some dodgy refereeing decisions against Fiji helping them get there) - It was expected that NZ would thrash them
2007 Fiji vs Wales? What about Argentina Vs France? Twice in the same RWC, and especially in the opening match in Paris? C'mon
You missed 2019. Japan topping their pool was probably the most unexpected moment in that tournament. Beating Ireland and Scotland.
I think Japan beating Ireland and Scotland is alot bigger upset then Uruguay beating Fiji 😮 Just my opinion love to see Uruguay play rugby they are underdogs.... but I really think in 2019 the upset was Japan vs Ireland and Japan vs Scotland 😊
2007 and 1999 should be reserved exclusively for France beating the All Blacks. I bet there's still Kiwi's who are haunted by the blatant forward pass to Michalak in 2007.
and joubert as referee in 2011 makes you sleep better ?
The qualification system for international rugby was dodgy at best for certain periods and alot of NZ players exploited that to participate in a world cup.
Loved the 2007 World Cup. We have 3 world cup titles
the ab's were all sick during the 95 world cup match that is still true though.
Welcome Portugal to the club!
You guys really love us Saffas don't you? 😂

The Biggest upset at the RWC in 1987 although a thrilling match wasn't France vs Australia. France were the 5 nations grand slam champions. They had beaten the All Blacks in the previous year. They were a formidable team. Although beating Aussie at home at Ballymore was a feat it wasn't a upset. The upset win was the Bronze final where Wales who been thrashed by NZ in the QFs upset Australia 22-21.
Western Samoa beating Wales in 1991 may of been a surprise to the northern hemisphere fans but All Black fans weren't surprised at all that a team containing NZers who went on to be all Blacks like Frank Bunce, Stephen Bachop and Pat lam plus some pretty excellent players like Fatilofa and Vaenga who were also in possibly the worlds strong provincial side at the time Auckland. Man mountains as well like Timo Tagaloa it was a pretty formidable side. It was no surprise to NZers as we knew what Wales were up against..
agreed
Plus Brian Lima an they had a lock I think Paramore was his last name can’t remember his fist name he was built like a titan an proper smashed anyone that ran near him

Oh I'm def not watching this video. Peace, from SA. 😅
🤣
1999 Samoa Wales was nowhere near as much of a shock was the France NZ semi.
France were 8/1 to bear New Zealand in the 1999 semi final.
I'd say that in 2007 the biggest upset is Argentina beating the hosts, France, twice, on the opening match and the bronze final. Of course, it's just an opinion 🙂
I think by the time of their second match, it was no longer an upset. I'm inclined to agree about the first one though, and several others. The biggest upset that wasn't also happened in that pool.
Honorable mention: 2023 Australia vs Fiji 😂😂😂
you missed out WC Final 2003 Eng defeat Australia ...
Matt Damon 💀💀
Can I warm your heart a little after those Samoa defeats, Wales 40, Australia 6😁😁😁
Add Portugal beating The Wallabies to the list. Bold prediction
Or Portugal beating Fiji to keep Australia in the cup(it's mathematically possible)
Surly Japan being Ireland was the biggest upset
The biggest upset at 2007 world cup is Argentina taking the third place for sure
I know you're point was "1 rwc - 1 upset". So you missed out couple of them. France against the AB in 1999 and 2007. Or argentina beating Ireland in 1999 and france in 2007. The Argentina-ireland 1999 is probably the most unexpected one. Argentina at the time was considered like nothing.
They’ve now won 4 but don’t mention it
For 2023 its Probably portugal winning fiji
And in 2023... Portugal vs Fiji!
wow how times have change. The Rugby field in 1991, Australia, looks like a normal weekend grass pitch will 2 poles sticking. There are no seats for the spectators, no floodlights, the grass looks like weeds... etc..
Callin SA over NZ in 95 a big upset is a reach.
We're the reason Japan has time in the spotlight in the rugby world
Argentina in 2007 rwc, third place and beat France twice
Bledisloe not pronounced “bletidoe”
Bled-is-low
1987 - Fair choice, but you could make a case for Wales over Australia.
1991 - Maybe Canada or Romania over Fiji. Ireland over Australia would have been it, but it didn't happen.
1995 - I guess I agree. I don't know if South Africa's run TO the final was so improbable. Once they beat an iffy Australia, it was an easy path to the semis, where they met a peer. I think one thing that caused them to be so underrated was that they were such a good defensive team (and NZ so great in attach) that they became too easy to overlook.
1999 - Strong disagree. Everyone knew by that point that Samoa was no joke. You could make a real case for Argentina over Ireland, but France over NZ is it for me.
2003 - Sure. Not really an upset, but nothing in this tournament was. It's the only time that the quarterfinals featured all of the original eight countries. But for a missed conversion at the death, USA over Fiji would have been a massive upset.
2007 - Disagree. Argentina over Ireland. Argentina over France (the first one - the second was no surprise). England over Australia. France over NZ. All better choices. Of course Georgia over Ireland would have been the mother of all upsets had they pulled it off.
2011 - Agreed. The only real choice.
2015 - Not merely the only real upset in the pool, one of the great upsets in the history of any sport.
2019 - I don't know. Three teams in that pool seemed pretty evenly matched (and it played out that way). You could say that Fiji destroying Georgia after Georgia had killed Uruguay was equally big. I'd go with Japan over Ireland (over Scotland, not so much by the point the match took place). I could even be talked into England over New Zealand.
07 should be Argentina beating France on world cup opener on french soil, and then beating them for the third place.
2007 argentina beat frace two times
1999 WC France d New Zealand
1999 WC Los Pumas vs Ireland

1995 world cup doesn't really count with the majority of the NZ side having food poisoning and still playing in that GF game. Lots of speculation about it considering the hotel that the players stayed at is where the players consumed the food that gave them food poisoning. With SA winning the WC pretty much uniting the country and quelling a lot of the racism going on in the country at the time.
as a kiwi, the outcome of that RWC win for south africa in uniting the country is worth it only having just one more WC win. All Blacks being the global threat as they are from our tiny corner of the world is enough for us to be proud regardless
Actually nz scored 145
A bit salty I see... btw do you know South Africa have won 3 world cups?
Jonah told me personally that they believed they were poisoned, apart from 3 players who skipped the team dinner.
I think i lost my job because of me supporting Japan in the victory over the Springboks... they played predictable rugby and got owned... nice breakdown...
2011 Final, France being stolen the world cup by the cheaters Richie McCaw (intentionally slammed Morgane Parra with his knee, no red card) and referee Craig Joubert letting All Blacks do whatever the hell they wanted. Then they fined the french team because they made a V formation during the haka. Digusting match.
What a joke, McCaw went for a clear out and Parra happened to be at the ruck after making the tackle. You have to really be searching for something to see foul play there
Main thing I take from this is how boring rugby is. Compare these upsets to football, cricket WCs. Crazy how predictable so many rugby games are.
saffas should have lost to the french in 95 if it hadnt been for the ref
Or the rain? Lol. Our forwards were better than France's. They stood no chance of playing their own game. We dictated the whole thing, and we were hungrier.
Abs Should have beat Sa that year to but you know what the saffas are like lol
@@aestheticyt8311 you mean with regard to the ref? Consider the world's view regarding politics (not that Aus Nz Eng are any better - they just hide it better lol) us Saffas have always been at the receiving end of 50/50 calls. Kinda tough to miss sometimes.
@@ramsfan1st43 France's Benazi did score a try at the end, the refeereing was just indecent. SA completely stole that world cup for national peace
