- Join me as I travel The Devil's Highway in the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge and the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range along the southern border of Arizona and Mexico. This will be a 4 or 5 video series. The dirt road is 250 miles long and traverses some of the most inhospitable desert on the the continent. Plus, it's full of history and has been in use for a 1,000 years and was a major path for the Spanish to travel from Mexico to the California coast since the mid-1500's. Video 6

I absolutely enjoyed our trip through the desert. Thanks for letting me ride along.
Man.... the stories I could tell ya. I was stationed in Yuma in the late 60's at Marine Corps Air Station. I was in 5th Light Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion and we would spend months in the desert. All off time was spent in my pickup driving the desert. We explored a fantastic mine you would be interested in .....Gold Rock Ranch ...just across the Ca. border. Old mining cars still down in the mine. Beautiful chambers, turquoise with copper. Several Marines were killed in that very same mine several years later. They were partying in the mine and decided to start a fire. Bad decision. They all suffocated. Saw mountain lions, badgers, ringtail cats, deer, sheep and of course...sidewinders. Enjoyed the visit.
Keep 'em coming Chig. Love watching them.
When you sneezed, I thought for sure the great horned desert samsquinch rattle moccasin got you!!
Was happy to see you extend this series to #6!!! Totally enjoyed this set!
That's a brother for ya never anywhere to be found until they need ya lol
sure makes me miss AZ. I wish I had more time to explore the desert when I was down there
Beau, did you ever find your brother?
I hope he's ok.
What a life chig I'm so jealous
Wow it’s so dry out there the only time Chigg says “hold your breath!” Is when he lets one go in the chigg rig 😂
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing and your dedication to your viewers.
I just loved this series! Please do more like it where you combine adventure, exploration and an explanation of the local history.
I think you need a drone so you can get some cool shots and us it for scouting.
Rodge agreed
Thank u for sharing
I’d love to experience that drive
I'm a rock hound and would love to spend a few days at that old mine site!! Oh the beautiful grander of the desert!
Always love your videos! Keep up the great journey and....hold your breath!
Brother saw Chigger had stocked fava beans and a nice chianti, so high tailed it out of there at the first opportunity.
There watching you everywhere you go😲
Wow another fabulous video, I love this desert stuff, 🌵🦂🤪
What a different world out that way. Enjoying the scenery. Compared to the northeast it looks so desolate and rugged. Thanks for taking us along.I don't get out much.
Yes Chigg, that was one of those giant prehistoric desert sand squids!
Amazing video. Always leave us wanting more... MOAR
Those rocket ends look like the 2.75 inch rockets that have been in use since Nam and are still used today.
I agree 2.75 air to ground rockets. Mostly fired from pods on choppers. Common use in Viet-nam,
Loved the Mungo (whoops!) Jerry reference! You should have finished the verse - it seems kind of fitting.
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find
Loving this video series! Thanks!
Chigg get a CB!
I was thinking the very same thing
Where's your brother there's no desert samquinces are there?!, Or did border patrol pick him up? , Any way Beau thanks looking forward the next trail mix video!!!
Been too long since I went tramping the South West Deserts. Love them, but here I am in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, loving it, but wistful for the southwest...
I love the desert! Nice rig, Chigg!
I am really enjoying your videos!
At 14:05 and the other parts where you found fins and rocket nozzles, those are the propellant and guidance end of US Mk 4/Mk 40 Folding-Fin Aerial Rockets. Neat finds. This has been a great trek to follow, glad to come alone.
ABSOLUTELY AWSOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!,KEEP THEM COMING
Well done Beau, great watch.;))
nc*bob-good stuff as always beau, enjoyed the seminar and hunt in orange va.
Hi Beau, once again you caught me heading down a tough memory session, so I’m happy to be heading down a different road with you :)
I’m looking forward to the trip with you...
Edit* As ever a pleasure to be there for the ride along, I hope you found your brother ok, maybe he knew about the mine already so decided no to go!
Peace
Charlie UK
Thank you that was awesome
Really cool place!
La Fortuna is up in the mountain . There is a hole that would swallow your truck. I seem to remember some tanks, a pipeline that brought water from the Gila, and a few foundations
Keep up the great work
Looks like you are in a dry wash just keep eyes open for flash floods they can sneak up on ya ,good video I miss my adventures through the dessert in California
hope you make it to the next town and find your bro.... and he will be ok... good luck on your nugget hunting this wkend stay safe ;];];]
It's so cool that you found a fin a previous day and then found that it's part of an even bigger mystery later on
Another amazing adventure ! Hope your bro is ok.
Interesting video Chigg enjoyed the travels looking forward to the next adventure..stay safe and well...BigfootDigger
You have done well, beau.
Love these videos almost like im there thanks chigg
Thanks Chigg for posting this
I see the chigg rig is a Ford you couldn't have chose a more reliable vehicle to be sitting in the middle of the desert with at least you know you'll make it home. great man with great taste!!
cool video Chiggs👌
Can’t win em all! Lol
Keep up the good work
That does indeed look like a giant squid. Watch out for the bad ombrays.... and don't get blowed up hahaha enjoying your Western videos we need to get you back in the river though looks pretty dry hahaha. Hope your brother is okay. Will catch you on the next one chigg.

HELLO FROM OREGON; AWESOME ADVENTURES. SO I WENT TO THE BOISE IDAHO GPAA SHOW TODAY AND MET A FRIEND OF YOURS FROM MINELABS, DEBBIE SMIKOSKI. CZcams MAKES THE WORLD SMALL. HAD A GREAT VISIT WITH HER.
Notice that patch of cholla is turning black? There are areas close to the point you are at where the plant life is all dead. Farther North, outside Yuma, the Welton Irrigation District is pumping so much water out of the ground that the water table has dropped significantly for many miles in all directions.
Beau
Great videos you've been posting with this wonderful vacation. I guess it's good to take a break from metal detecting. How's the Ford F3 50 running is that a 6.7 L turbo diesel? Well it certainly sounds like a diesel! Well it's going to be getting warm and you'll be getting back in the water and don't forget to (hold your breath)
Thank you
Great Vid,
Nice spot. Very open and rocky compared to what I'm used to, which is hills and lots of under growth
Bless you
Hope you found your bother. Loving these videos
Another great adventure, but worried for the sake of your brother. It's amazing how easy it is to get separated out there. All that dry country makes me thirsty. I can't get over the fact people actually try to cross that desert. How desperate must be their lives to make them think going across that is a better option. Be safe and may you find your brother soon. I hope yuo both find the nugget mother load, tho it might start another gold rush.
Good vid chig!
Love these videos chigg hope you found your brother
Chigg. At 3:48 there is (was) an antique car headlight laying there with the rubbish at the scarecrow that almost his you in the noggin! (not the Nugget)
It was the desert Samsquatch!!! The rocklside!!!
Beau, it sounds like your driving a tank there!
Hey Chigg, i’m not sure if you did one in the past, but i think you should do a chigg rig video/tour. Would be interested to see how you setup your rig
And in the other video that PC. Of metal you found was one of the fin blades from a flare, from my house which I live only 20 miles east of the Barry Goldwater military range I see them flares 3 or more nites a month where the air national guard are doing bombing runs
Thanks for the id.
No I not squid. I think you may need to drink some water Chigg!! You're starting to hallucinate
They look like night flares that they fire in the air and they go off and slowly float down to earth...Iilluminating the ground below,
Richard clarke I think night flares are on parachutes
they are zuni rockets fired / launched from aircraft. they set up targets on wheels so they can take them back when there done. there most likely inert. if there were any concern they would have taken them away.
Still rock'n the kayak in the desert. ?
I lost my brother when he was 33...he took me to yankee stadium many times i miss him so much
Zuni Rocket
Are you gonna hit up the Bradshaw mountains and Lynx creek? It only makes sense you came all this way you should take some Arizona gold back home
My dog says thanks for the coyote at the end
+Aquachigger
do you guys use radio to keep in touch? Cheap handheld UHF "FRS" radios or similar are reasonably good in open level terrain with few trees - perfect for the desert. Climb a rock or stand up on your truck door step/sill and they are even better.
I was thinking that the other day when you were climbing and sliding around those tank chutes a simple twisted ankle and you could be a goner in a place like that. Then today, it would have helped coordinate you two guys, saving time and worry.
Are those River Ray-Bans that you wearing? :)
I like taking those ramen noodles an just soaking them in water till they get soft then draining that off an adding the flavor packet along with some Italian dressing or teriyaki sauce for a nice snack.
Again great video. I would like to see that area. I am a Ham guy. But I do 11 meter. Get a Cobra 29. Put it in your rig. Four watts will do just fine. Thanks so much. Ted from Connecticut.
Camped at Fortuna Mine last summer, 2022. There was LOTS there. You took a wrong turn somewhere...
With all the ordinance lying around, do the military come and clear them away or are they just left to decay? I do agree with you Beau, on the beauty of the place, spectacular.
Hi Chigg, looks more like “Bikini Bottom” Sponge Bob’s playground.
You brought your kayak, have you used it yet?
Looks like a fun camping trip.
Need a sequel!
Does this trail hook up with the Bradshaw Trail near the Salton Sea? I hear the Bradshaw Trail goes all the way to Yuma, AZ
The life you lead pretty much is my bucket list. If I had a choice. Id be in Alaska, running a sluce everyday. Do to injurys I can't lift much but walking and running a detector is I can do while being on disability. Being a rock hound is in my blood. My grandfather was a gemoligst and ametuer Flint knapper. I think you videos are amazing
Awesome video thanks for sharing i love the desert. You should check out Joshua tree lot of history there
2.75 inch rocket moters. From the paint, looks like illumination flare.
Hey, just found your channel, how does this trail compare to the Mojave Road? I have some vacation to use up and I want to todo a multi day trip.
Great video, get a leash on your brother. I would have been worried sick.
I heard a fly and it scared me hahaha
Those looked like a Zuni rockets stuck in the ground
I had a friend that always disappeared if I didn't keep him in front of me. Go somewhere, 10 feet behind me, 10 seconds, gone.. All the time!
Ricky would eat raw Ramon noodles. lol
Did you find your brother? lol Great video!
Ur AWESOMENESS THANK u
Those Rockets look like some sort of FFAR (Folding Fin Aerial Rocket) Glad you didn't try and pick it up :D
Those "mountains" are dead volcanos. Love the desert tho that surprised me the first time I went.
at 15:20, that's the exhaust tip to a Duramax equipped pickup.
Better take that truck into the shop and have it looked at when you get back, those roads really beat the crap outta your vehicle.
You should carry walkie-talkies to stay in contact, Beau.😊
It was a Desert Samaquintch!! Even more rare than the original kind.
I just wanted to tell you what those things sticking out of the ground were. They are practice rockets used for training but dont worry they are not explosive. I know this because my grandpa was in the military and he got to keep one and i still have it today
Would those empty chambers be filled with explosives in a live rocket, perhaps?
