  • Join me as I explore ancient cliff dwellings in the Sierra Ancha mountains of Arizona. This is the third of a three part series. The first is the hike up the mountain, the second is an exploration of the main cliff dwelling, and this one is the discovery of another neat cliff dwelling and the hike down the mountain. I also find some corn cobs, stone tools and pottery that last used in the 1400's.

      this man is such a blessing for so many he takes us all with him on his adventures and shapes not only the view but his knowledge of so many different things along the way,its like old friends hiking together and sharing vary personal thoughts and story's details that you can not get from any other youtubber's videos that I have found,kinda reminds me of caveing as a family when I was a young boy,dad all ways taught each of us all daylong I was # 5 out of 6 kids,he all ways said,the only stupid question, is the one you have and don't seek the answer for,ask away son,but as with most thing back then( as a kid,i broke so many things dad taught me to fix things,and had to lol,he said I was the only person he ever knew that could brake a anvil with a feather, then he would smile and show me how to fix it)I ask so many questions of him that one day he said I hate to do this son,but can you cut down the amount of questions to 50 or so a day ,i just don't have the time to answer more than that each day,with that big smile I remember so well.so Mr chigg that's who you remind me of,no higher complement have I ever gave to any one my chigg 🎃hold your breath and keep on chigging and THANKYOU .

    You are right about the deadly plant Aquachigger. That is a Datura stramonium' also stupidly called Jimson weed, or devils trumpet with good reasons. It is very deadly, even getting in contact with the juices it contains can send you into a delirium state, many that have survived such a "trip" got braindamaged or just did go insane afterwards. It is still a very beautiful plant, specialy when it flowers, but since the plant smells like rotten meat (to attract flies to pollinate instead of bees) and it kills everything that grow a few feet near it' not many want to come near it, some does anyways and some have also payed the highest price for doing so. It got poison enough to kill a man *many* times over, a horrible dead. It makes me glad to se when a human like you Aquachigger' are following his nose to avoide danger. Our intuition is most often right. Take care out there' it would not be pleasent to trip balls with delerium far up in the mountain, or very safe ;)

      I actually think that could be very possible, its a plant of the nightshade familiy, even where I'm from (Denmark) people many 100's years ago used it as a poison, or in very small dosages as a "truth serum" if the natives knew how to boil extracts, one would be possible to make out of the seeds and seedpods on the plant, or just the whole plant' such a extract would be very effective in matter of minuttes towards and enemy. I even think it would be effective to mix the extract with hot water, or just soake whole plants in water' mabye crush em a bit' and then throw the water on somebody.

I am 44 and my husband is 45 and we just loved your series and have subscribed to watch more. You remind me so much of my Dad and I mean that in such a complimentary way. He's in his 70s and has written books about the Native Americans of the Adirondack mountains and the subsequent Irish settlers who relied on their help in order to survive. I am going to forward your videos for him to enjoy.

    These videos make me miss my grandfather. He loved panning for gold and took me ( his first grandchild ) on many adventures here in California. I remember a huge flat rock where the Indain woman all sat together grinding corn etc. it most likely has a fence around it now , then , who knows , it could have been on private property , he always asked permission before walking on to someone's property that's how we met Barton McClain and his wife. They invited us in to their house I remember a Western style house their living room window was huge I could see the rolling hills. Mrs. McClain offered me some candy from her coffee table , my mom asked where Sherly was and was told she was up at the cabin. Thank You for all of the hard work you do for your enjoyment and ours. My life came to a grinding halt a long time ago , but escape is somewhat possiable through people like you , I hope you have many more wonderful adventures : )

    it appears to me that the doorway being narrowed with those obstructions at the bottom would force intruders to come in one at a time this would make it easier for a bow or spear wielding Native to take care of business. It would be difficult to stack through that doorway. I'm sure they probably had war with other tribes.

      " I'm sure they probably had war with other tribes." im sure thats the raison d'etre for the whole complex. near perfect natural fortification. i also suspect thats why "they suddenly went away and left everything". a larger or group of tribes decided to take care of them once and for all and wiped them out. why no human remains? i recall a show about similar but free standing ruins out west in the vicinity. in the rubble they found human bones that showed evidence of butchering and eating.

    • @1Epicdoom
      @1Epicdoom Před 7 lety +3

      yeah I also saw that. I also saw a show that the whole tribe which was very large had used up the resources to the point that no land animals were left no trees nothing. It caused the people to kill and eat each other. the large tribe separated into smaller ones. and mayhem began for survival. this was on an Island. the death toll was very high due to starvation and killing and eating each other. the people near wiped themselves out. I wonder if possibly there were bones that were collected or simply buried remote of the location and not found yet. I'm sure in the time the natives were at the location some died of natural causes. Its also been a practice to burn the dead in ceremony which would leave little to be found. My hope is that the area was no longer suitable for the needs and the people left the area for better ground. Population Boom alone can be a factor. I am half Native American Cherokee Indian and the stories that I heard from family that gets past to future generations tell the story, but how much embellishment is added will never truly be known.

      Both correct jimsonweed originally Jamestown weed because early Jamestown settlers ate the fruit it produced turns out it made them trip for days not a pleasant trip either. Also called the Devils cherry. I " knew guys" in high school that would chop the fruits a spiked bulb full of seeds boil it and strain the water drinking it like a tea. Let's just say you better have a babysitter that doesn't have to work for a few days. Most exceptionally beautiful flower though. I read once that either Tao or Buddha ate a diet of only the seeds of datura for enlightenment for a month.

      Also know as moon flower or thorn apple. The seeds are a hallucinogenic that if taken too much can cause convulsions and death. I used to grow it as the flowers open in the evening and are large and beautiful. After the flower falls off then the seedpod develops and grows and looks like an apple with thorns coming off of it, hence the name Thorn Apple.i beleave the Latin name is Datura, keep away from pets, livestock and children.

      Jim Andrews Javalina poop actually....

    • @bmfowlks
      @bmfowlks Před 7 lety +1

      Andie they spray their poop on the ceiling of caves? I don't think so. I find the same stuff here in Utah and we don't have javelina.

    • @coinucopia
      @coinucopia Před 7 lety +2

      It's actually pack rat urine, they will use the same spot for centuries and it dries and builds up into a thick hard tar like layer. I see it quite often when I explore the desert areas of Utah and Nevada.

    • @andie2809
      @andie2809 Před 7 lety

      bmfowlks I wasn't talking about what was on the ceiling as he was pointing to the poop on the ground.... Just saying....and if you have actually seen Javalina shit you'd understand why I came to that conclusions....SMDH
      Oh... he's in Arizona NOT Utah so guess what... WE HAVE Javalina here!!

    I finally retired at 55 and I can't wait to climb in the old jeep and head out. We have seen a few indian areas on family property out in the Davis Mountains. I've always enjoyed looking but not collecting. Your video channel is awesome. I learn a lot watching you dive for artifacts from the civil war. Thanks, awesome channel.
