- I was fascinated by John D. Boswell's brilliant video for PBS Digital Studios, "Mister Rogers Remixed - Garden of Your Mind", so I did a little research and figured out the five episodes that Boswell used to construct the song. Here is the "unmixed" footage from those episodes. (They are episodes 1563, 1651, 1653, 1751, and 1753, if you're curious. Broadcast dates range from 1986 to 2000.)

I want everyone to do something tomorrow morning.
Wake up and look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself "Am I acting like the kind of person Mr. Rogers knew I could be?"
If you answer no. Then this is my challenge to you:
Become the kind of person Mr. Rogers knew you could be.
The only thing that ever truly holds you back is yourself. I know this from personal experience. I grew up in the backwoods of Ohio with no real hopes to ever rise out of the lower class.
However, I decided that I was not okay with this. I looked myself in the mirror one day and said "I will change myself" and I found my own path forward to where I am now. Working academia and soon to be a geologist.
Do not ever let anyone ever tell you that you cannot do something. You see, Mr. Rogers was right. You are a wonderful person and you deserve only the best. So go forth friends and become the kind of person Mr. Rogers always knew you could be.
Thank you for this. Fred Rogers deserves to be remembered for all time.
Thumbs up!
Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers.
It always feels like I'm listening to a Caucasian Buddha.
i miss Mr.Rogers! he was such a great guy.
Great job! My children and I have seen the remix many, many times, so it was neat to show them the actual footage used to make it! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Mister Rogers was a gem!
It's only a little strange to hear this and that funky beat doesn't play.
The world has grown up since you're time, Mr. Rogers. But that's okay, because you taught us that it's okay to grow up, just keep that curiosity.
And grow ideas.
awesome un-mixing! ... I like this even more than the mixing.
IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS FOR YEARS!!!!!!
This was great! I loved it.
Thank you for sharing this
Lot of detective work here.
Watching the way he says the lines normally really puts into perspective the amazing work that Boswell does. Much respect.
This is awesome. This song lives rent free in my head and I love it
This is great. I've been searching for as many episodes as I can find of Mr. Rogers who taught me as a child lifelong lessons. Thank you, CZcams and Mr. Rogers for this gift!
Mr. Rogers was wiser than a wizard.
Hello galenfott ! Something that Mister Rogers would have said to you is, " I'm proud of you " . Thanks a bunch for the video.
The main reason I love this video is that it gives me a great insight into just how much work melodysheep puts into his remixes! Thank you for doing the research necessary to bring that to light.
Well thanks, but all I did was research and editing. It was surprisingly easy to do; it really only took me about 3 hours. Boswell is the real artist here!
This was so great and inspiring. Thank you so much for posting this!
I want to thank you for making this! Everyone should watch this first, then watch the remix. Gives you an appreciation of what they did in the remix: taking something as horrendous as auto-tune and turning it into absolute genius! I feel like it brought Fred back to life. Not many good influences available to kids today. We need more Freds in this world!
Thanks for doing this. Great to see the clips.
Thanks so much! The Boswell video is indeed brilliant, and this is a reminder of the tenderness and love Mister Rogers had, the underlying reality that makes the remix so meaningful.
OMG, how'd i miss this? A month ago i was on PBS watching the episodes they had and all of a sudden in the beginning of one episode to my surprise he says "Welcome again to this neighborhood".. my eyes LIT UP with a smile.. and found some more lines towards the end of that one episode.. but never could find the rest, as i really wanted to see it.. THANKS FOR THIS. video's like this is what makes CZcams.. nice job man
This deserves just as many views.
THANK YOUUUU!!! Been looking for this
Oh, the nostalgia..
This was awesome. I recently heard the remix and can't get it out of my head. It was cool to see all the original clips. Thanks!
oh my god thank you so much
wonderful...thank you so much. I really loved this man and miss him...
man watching mr roger took me back in time but i was sad cuz i have to come back in time
Tell me I'm not the only one who had the song in there head while watching this.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed today
THANK YOU OH MY GOD YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
Thanks for this! It's nice to see the "de-tuned" version. And Mr. Rogers still rocks da' house.
This was great! Thank you
Amazing. Thank you 🙏💜
for real, man. mad props for putting this together. what boswell did was absolutely brilliant. what you did was equally brilliant. this is the equivalent of one dj remixing another dj's work. or something like that. or one musician doing an acoustic cover of another musician's work. regardless, i love it.
Wow, thank you so much for going through all that trouble to put this together- I was wondering about this, if he was singing at all, and I just want to let you know that it's truly appreciated!
Wow its amazing that they created a song from these clips. Musical genius.
Thank you for this
Brilliant deduction Detective Holmes!
thanks for doing this first thing i did after seeing the remix by melodysheep was look for the original video...what do you know! again, thank you !
Very good. I wanted to see the original footage from the whistle segment.
Thank you! :D
Very cool. Thanks!
Awesome! I was curious to hear the actual sources!
Thanks!
Hahahaa.. that whistle noise was perfect. I love how they remixed it
well done!
Actually, I did the entire thing in just a little over three hours. I looked for clues (Wynton Marsalis, whistles, paper chains, etc.) and used Google to find episode numbers, then found all the episodes streaming on Amazon. Studying Rogers' sweater and tie colors also helped me narrow it down to just the five episodes.
Growing gardens in our minds
Reminds me of that show with the castle and the giants... and the drawbridge... the song was nearly as long as the program.
so great.
Slide whistle @ 2:14 - 2:16 sounds exactly like in the PBS remix. I guess Mr. Rogers really *can* play the slide whistle like a boss.
the way he talks reminds of a science teacher in my school MR.Cross
whenever i hear this i hear the remixed version
Great vid
Good stuff!
I'm not gonna lie when he started playing the slide whistle I thought he was gonna bust out the wicked solo. Still though kudos to this video!
Thanks, I'm glad you appreciated my video. I think there's a big difference though between singers who rely on auto-tune to sing in tune, and what Boswell does. To me, it's almost like he's "uncovering the hidden music within", or something like that. It's a creative tool, not a crutch. I just put this video together to show the raw material that he used, because I think it's an interesting comparison.
Amazon has many episodes of MRN available for streaming. And with an Amazon Prime membership, they're free!
Sweet deal, cool to hear how the originals sound.
I completely agree. I was thinking that too when I was watching it and thinking of all the autotune artists out there.
Well done! :) Good sleuthing.
There is alot of people that help other people. We just need 2 observe if they are haters or not.
YES, YES!!! I WILL ALWAYS BE YOUR NEIGHBOR!!!
I like that, "uncovering the hidden music within".
But, wow, haha. If you listen closely, you can hear that the whistle melody used in the remix is actually the same melody as in the original footage. Who'd have figured?
I wonder if that melody caught Boswell's ear back than, and he has been waiting all these years for a chance to "sample" that melody into something bigger, haha.
Oh I agree with you. But I know there are some artists out there that rely on the autotune for basically everything. They wouldn't be able to cut it if they didn't have it. Maybe I'm seeing more into this than is the case, but still you gotta admit it's interesting to think about. And hey - give yourself more credit here...you did "a little research", this took a LOT of effort.
Amazing job man, putting all this together. Looks like the autotune version PBS made has a hidden message in it. I don't know how many people are picking it up though. Autotune is way overused and takes away from the true meaning of the original. Artists that use it as a crutch, don't deserve the credit they get. After seeing this compilation, I won't be listening to the autotune version any longer. My compliments.
I heard this on the way to work today..
Love it, any thought to doing it with the bob Ross remix too??
Whew! ;)
2:15 un autotuned whistle solo
Still legendary
Also great detective work #GalenFott
2:14 his look of surprise haha :)
The Friendly Giant on CBC. Rusty the Rooster and Gerome the Giraffe. :D
i fucking love this
I've listed the episode numbers in the video description, but MRN episodes don't have names.
Not this show exactly, but many of the puppet characters were introduced on "The Children's Corner" in the 50s.
galenfott..I think you did a really good job. I hope you continue on your journey. Perhaps you can find the most brilliant remix epsodes of Julia child by melodysheep. He is an amazing guy as well. Thank you!
1:50-1:54........yeahhhhh man!!!!
No... This guy was the like Mr. Rogers for kids. Carl Sagan was like the Carl Sagan for kids. Two great men, who taught us much in their lifetimes.
What the hell, Mr. Rogers? You didn't order the whistles, so you're going to start jamming on em like they were yours? You don't just go playing another man's whistles without his permission.
I'm sure Mr Rogers was a Buddha incarnate.
Doubtful! I'm not sure how one would get free access to all the Joy of Painting episodes, for starters. And while I think Bob Ross is great, I'm not sure I have the passion it would take! Glad you liked this one, though.
This guy is like Carl Sagan for kids
Right? I do not think he ever wore the same sweater/tie combo ;).
I love this version but the song version to me is better Did make that? He had a lot of songs he madeor had made for him
This iz da shiz
didnt know what is was expecting.... huh.... hum... wow /=|
Whistle tune- Disneys robbin hood.
The FOX marries marrion.
Mary of the stars
I didn't order any whistles.
