- Mister Rogers Neighborhood - Exploring the set - I heard about Mr. Rogers set on display at The Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh about 2 years ago and knew I needed to visit. Like many of us, I grew up watching Fred Rogers on TV. The trolley, the puppets like King Friday and Daniel Tiger, and the people like Mr. Mcfeely were a huge part of my childhood. So glad to have had the chance to finally see this in person! RIP Mister Rogers.

Back in September 2015, I drove over to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to visit Unity Cemetery and the mausoleum where he was laid to rest. You can't get inside, but you can look through the door, and he's just inside on the left. I was talking to him just like he used to talk to us through the camera. It was really hot and humid that day, and at one point, I said out loud that it was really hot and that I might need to cut my visit short. Right as soon as I said that, the wind changed direction and turned nice and cool. Needless to say, I believe he was with me that day on my visit.
Only Mr. Rogers can make 10 seconds of silence be some of the most powerful and emotional seconds in anyone's life. RIP Mr. Rogers... we miss you.
tonyringtail I know right! I'm 52 years and grew up with him and watched him as so many others did! And I can honestly say that he is the only t. v personality that I watch now in my adulthood can get me to feel as good as I did watching him as a young child! God bless his sweet soul! Thank you Mr. Rogers for making my childhood totally awesome! May he continue to rest in sweet peace! I so miss him! Thank God for utube!
tonyringtail I agree , Mister Rogers was the best
Hate to tell you but he was a real cranky neighbor to us kids walking across "HIS" beach in Cape Cod.
Drew Charpentier Go stick your head in the sand and don’t lie about a Legend! SMH
A strange world this internet is, to bump into you here. How small the neighborhood is. Hope you are well Tony
there was never a better human being than Fred Rogers. I watched this show when I was 3 religiously for my entire childhood. ......my favorite was the trolley.
really? why?
@@LeoLeo-tx4uy ....why what?
It was an escape from the hell I went through as a child. I like trains. So yeah the trolley was my ride into another world, while the tension and violence went on around me.
@@arkie74 My childhood sucked too. At the age of 2 and a half, I would cry each time the show was over.
Same here. I watched him every morning before school. He was such an amazing man with a big heart. He was so caring, and made sure everyone knew they were special
The world needs more Mr. Rogers.
The country and the world need Mr. Rogers now more than ever. Another great video!
jeffsfleet for now let’s take a one way ticket on Charlie the trolley to the land of make believe
Amen
Amen
I couldn't agree with this statement more. Even for myself. I don't like the person I become when it comes to those who I believe are hell bent on destroying America and American values.
Fred would be so happy to know that even in death, kids are still visiting him and learning!!! What a wonderful, kind man he was!
I always cry when listening to that speech.
Yeah its a touching speech, I had to put it in the video!
Mobile Instinct thank you for including it
@@MobileInstinct merci
Wow. I don't know why they don't rerun his shows late at night. He has thirty or so years worth. I would buy his collection.
tmathis165 yea would be cool of they aired it still but why late-night? Kids aren't up latenight. It would make more sense to air in day so Mr rogers could keep influencing children to be descent human beings, yea? Hehe
Mo Ana make an account just to troll... when I read your comment I picture some lonely troll deep in his moms basement. Still angry at the world because his uncle Jerry used to touch him and only gave him a snickers to keep the secret.
@@MansonX why don't we have a troll emoji?
Mo Ana Fred never did anything
because tehres no lesbain actions, no guns, no nudity, no etc...
That ending brought tears to my eyes.
same :'(
Joshua Felty me too man. His show always made me feel happy and peaceful during my turbulent childhood in a broken home
me too
Yes... me too. And It takes a lot to make me cry. Mr Rogers was a huge part of my childhood.
Joshua Feltyqqw
I want to visit that museum.
MisterHot Me, too!
Me Too. :-D
me to
I loved Mr. Rogers. I watched him along with Sesame Street, The Electric Company and the original Zoom. He is definitely missed!
Henrietta Hippo...the elevator...Zoom...
Thats all I remember ..oh the Owl ..and the frog!
As a kid in the 80s we watched his show he made a difference in everyone's life on tv
So many feels for me watching this. I was a 70's baby and grew up watching Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street and The Electric Company. I hope one day to go visit this set! My husband was also a 70's baby but never grew up watching PBS and I would love to show him all of this
Same here brbgal..I also watched a lot of Zoom back when I was a little girl..However, Mr.Roger's just had that special quailty about him that will never be forgotten..
He was a big part of 80's babies lives too (I was born at the end of '78, so close enough). Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, Slim Good Body and Reading Rainbow were my childhood.
I also hold a special place in my heart for those shows, and we can't forget "Captain Kangaroo"
I’m 44 and I remember fondly this show from my youth
Same. I've been watching these various CZcams clips about Mister Rogers and I can only watch one at a time because they inevitably make me cry. If only more people were like him, we would live in a very different world.
Fred McFeely Rogers would make a great president
No kidding!
I watched this with my son and as so as he heard the dinging he was like "IT'S TROLLEY! Mom The Land of Make Believe was a real set?" So I said "Yep and Daniel Tiger, and all his friends on the cartoon you watched were all created by Fred Rogers"
Thats so amazing!
and the proof of how humble and class act he is and was. in his speech for his lifetime award. he thanked every one else how helped him for making show like camera men and tv production crew and and everyone else. he never took any credit for the show and how it helped so many of us growing up. if you ever wanna know what pure class or a what a real human looks like or acts. go study him. he only wanted everyone to get along and enjoy getting along and helping others be great too.
NIC ROOD your right ..he was a great person. In fact im sure you could get in a pretty bad fight in America if you went into a bar full of 40 y.o. guys and said something bad about fred rogers
what bad could you say about the guy? He was such a soft-spoken legend who knew children, and how to relate to children, or rather how to help adults and children understand each other.
I'm a 42 year old man, I'm not crying you're crying.
Kids today can watch the shows on re-runs or DVDs, but they will never know the feeling knowing Mr. Rogers really was there for you as your friend.
I loved that show as a Child..I was special needs and he made me feel loved
The studio set still exists?! Wow, I never knew that!
Mr Rogers will live on forever through television and his wonderful show!We so need him now---they should show him in elementary schools.God bless you Mr.Rogers!Millions upon millions of people love you just the way you are.
Mr. Rogers was a visionary, a genius and I love his show. He's gone to that great neighborhood in the sky. RIP Mr. Rogers.
Here I lay on my bed watching Mr. Rogers neighborhood. I missed it because by the time he was around, I was twelve and none of my friends were interested in something like his show. Now, through the amazing U-Tube, I can go and watch episodes and I tear up, cry and loving every minute of it. I'm 62 and watching what I've missed the first time around. Ya know, I'm loving Mr. Rogers right now in 2019. I feel like a kid and, oh no, here comes the tears. Thank you Mr. Rogers.
I too grew up watching Mr. Rogers however, I can say I watched his very first episode on our black and white tv in 1968. What a great video, thank you!
I grew up watching Mr. Rogers. Thank you for this . And most of all Thank you Fred Rogers for the best years of my life.
💗 Mr Rogers is definitely missed. I feel for kids these days who didn't get to grow up with him. They are missing out.
I love how you added his speech. I swear I had a tear coming, I knew the show really well growing up with him..What a genuine, sweet, kind man! RIP
It's a very touching speech from such a great man!
It's a beautiful day in "the" neighborhood!
Wow! I need to visit that museum. Mr Rogers first came on when I started kindergarten. I loved watching the Neighborhood. There were tears at his speech. And I've got to admit that I loved Daniel Tiger.
+Alicia Swofford You definitely have to go!
I cried when the camera flipped around and revealed the set! I'm 30 😍😍
+Ryan Senquiz It was truly amazing seeing everything
I was born in 1965. I watched Sesame Street,Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood,The Electric Company, and Zoom! on a regular basis. They were on WEDH,Ch. 24, out of Hartford,Ct. USA. Very nice video. Thank You.
I wish I was born earlier than 1997 to grow up watching Mr. Rogers tv show and get to know him more. I was too young to remember mr. Rogers I only recall watching a few of them. He seems like a sweet man, I wish there was another person like him but I guess NO ONE can replace the original Mr. Rogers; he is so unique.
Sun and D-970 I feel ya man! I wish I wasn't a little kid when new episodes were wrapping up and when he passed.
I remember watching him :) 1980s child here!
gokusangel20 I am a 1980s viewer as well! Miss Mr. Rogers so much!
1993, grew up watching him
I was born in 1982. I grew up wirh Fred Rogers. I still watch episodes of Mr Rogers Neighborhood when I'm feeling nostalgic. ❤
I think God wanted Mr Rogers up in heaven and couldn't wait until he was too old.
You're probably right
He fulfilled his life's work. That was it. "Well done good and faithful servant" Matthew 25:23
It’s a shame the the younger generation has shows like keeping up with the Kardashian’s and real housewife to look up to.
I never had the change to grow up with mr Rogers but I will watch his tv show
NO, we don’t watch that stupid stuff, we watch sponge bob
Yea, we all know the Kardashian's are scripted along with Jersey shore or something like that
exactly. So sad
Nill Null Now PBS has Daniel Tigers Neighborhood and it’s a cartoon.
I grew up in the 70's and watched mr rogers and sesame street and all the great saturday morning cartoons on tv u dint have to pay for.... thanks Fred for a great show
Thanks for putting his Emmy acceptance speech in there. He had a genuine heart of gold!
This man was The Man. God bless you Mr. Rogers.
Just the purest, kindest man the world has ever kown.
This was my childhood . I loved Mr Rogers when I was a little kid . Born 1979 . This man is a true icon and made up so much of many people’s childhoods . Thank you Mr Rogers you made so many people’s lives so memorable . We love you .
What a truly good, honest and genuine man he was. Some of my earliest memories are of watching his show. The music he featured was my first introduction to Jazz. I wish the trolley had survived, but still, they did a great job with the set!
Glad you liked the jazzy expressive piano music. The pianist, or one of them, was the music director for a summerstock theatre I acted and I wrote a children's show, Beema Zomp! for: Kearsarge Theatre, Warner, NH. He taught me to breathe, so to speak. During much of the year, he composed and improvised the Mt. Roger's piano accompaniment, much like keyboardists did for 'silent' movies.
I will never forget him. I use to watch him all the time. It's amazing how 1 person touched so many lives. Aren't you cute at the set. :)
i agree mr rogers was a amazing man im a 90s kid and i would watch mr rogers every morning that set is magic i watch him in the 90s all the way to 2001 now im an adult miss you mr rogers if you was still living today i would still watch your show
The speech Mr. Rogers gives at the end...What a class act.
Great to see this! I sure wish they had his kitchen on display as well. That was also an important part of the show. He did a lot of things in that kitchen. Thanks for posting. This was nice to see.
Godspeed Fred Rogers... Best neighbor we ever had.
Love this man! Born in 1967 some of my very first memories were of watching Mr Rogers neighborhood. Such a caring, loving man. So unlike the garbage are children watch today! Truly the good ole days!! Thankyou Mr Rogers .....RIP
Mr Rogers was also an accomplished musician. He plaid and wrote all the piano parts for the show.
Mr, Rogers epitomized the best of what humanity can be, We we're blessed to have him in our homes.
I loved Mr Rogers. He seemed so easy going and so peaceful.
God Bless Fred Rogers for all the times during my childhood he took me to the land of make-believe & talked to me with respect. Like this comment if Mr. Rogers was your childhood friend.
Truly a touching memorial to Mr Rogers! Thank you so very much!
Unless one of us take up mr. Rogers torch there won’t be another one like him. I don’t even think anyone who lives in this world that was born after 1970 can possibly fill his shoes because we grew up with different values even though he instilled as much as he could his values on us the world is just way to different now.
Agreed ☹...born in 1988 I am proud to say I grew up watching him daily as a child. I now know what I had.
I dunno, I think his messages about everyone being special and such are timeless. I watched some episodes more recently, and besides some outdated tech (VHS, for example) the show is still relevant. Maybe no one today can "fill his shoes," so to speak, but I am one of those ones who thinks they should be re-run.
(Yes, I know this comment is old. Thought I'd respond anyway) :)
46 years old and still love the show. Watched this and Reading Rainbow like crazy as I grew up. Best shows!!
I love Mr, Rogers, I have years in my eyes
wow this was cool.... I didn't know this Museum existed... I used to watch mr. Rogers and Sesame Street all the time when I was a kid
I remember watching Mr. Rogers as a child. I loved the show. A great icon and educator in those times...and years to follow...forever. Thank you for this tour. RIP Mr. Rogers, we miss you!
Great peace of work here!
The universe lost a great man, heaven gained a great soul!!!
About 20ish years ago, I remember going to downtown Pittsburgh and seeing some of the set pieces that were on display, and even now seeing these brings a smile. My dad also worked at WQED for a while and apparently met Mr. Rogers, and I'm told he really was a great guy.
What a GREAT guy. I watched him back in the 60's into the 70's.
He was a Minister as well.
class act all the way.. loved that guy when i was lil love him forever
R.I.P Mr. Rogers :'(
Man I miss mr roggers I learned a lot watching his show on TV as a kid now I miss my parents and I wish I could have my parents back I wish I could take my fience to Pittsburgh and see the set of Mr Rogers neighborhood at hienz history center we mis you Mr Rogers god bless you
Goodness. Whenever I hear Fred Rogers talk, I just can't help but smile. He is a man that played a part in making me the man I am today. Thank you Fred.
Wow, very cool 😎 thanks for sharing a behind the scenes look at a shows 3+ generations of kids watched with joy and wonder.
I remember running to my closet and changing shirts with Mr Rodgers during the intro as a small child in the early 80s. Crazy the things you remember.
Mr. Rogers neighborhood always gave me a good 👍 feeling when watching+brought back 🔙 memories of when I watched it w my grandmother
I was born in January 1972 and I grew up watching Mr Rogers. That trolly used to really spike my interests and my curiosity.
The show premiered when I was two, and I grew up with it.
Thanks for making me aware of this existing.
I think I need to make a trip to see it.
There will NEVER be another Mr. Rogers what a difference in the world he made. Never forgotten. Thank you!
I love that for 10 seconds, Mr. Rogers told Hollywood to not think about themselves for once. Godspeed, good and faithful servant!
Thank you so much ! Doubt I will ever see it in person so thank you for sharing with us!
Henrietta Pussycat! My fave :)
meow meow me too meow!
In 1986, I was 5 years old and watched this show every single day at the babysitters. It was the best part of my childhood. My 2 year old son now watches it everyday. I’ve always wondered what the set looked like today ♥️
A great humanitarian rooted in compassion for all people. We need Fred Rogers more now than ever. Be kind!
It's actually really cool that these pieces were purchased and preserved.
This reminds me of when I was little and I'd stay home from school cuz I got sick or whatever happened, I would always watch this show. I'd be laying down on the old white couch we used to have. My grandmother coming home to see how I'm feeling. That was a long time ago, sometimes it feels like a different lifetime.
Thank you for sharing this with us
One thing I never would have thought I'd see in this life!
Behind the Mr Rogers-King Friday's castle!! Wow 😯,👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎉
He has such a soothing, comforting voice. (My father's voice wasn't all that soothing). It brings me right back to childhood
The man, the legend . RIP dear man
This brought a tear to my eyes. I remember watching his show every day. He always made you feel loved and special just as you are.
rip fred rogers thank you for the memories!!
:c never mind me, im just cutting onions *cough* what a wonderful speech.
Yes, and I had an awful amount of dust in my eyes ;)
Oh my gosh. Watched this and was like, I miss the days of watching this on PBS. You will be missed Mr. Rodgers. Wow. That song at the end "Its just a good feeling" made me cry just singing it. I miss this type of tv show.
Not all superheroes wear a cape - one wore sweaters knitted by his mother! Soar with the sngels, Fred - you will always be Pittsburgh’s favorite son! We love and miss you!
A nice video of the display. I was sorry the trolley and tracks weren't there. I especially liked that. Very nice tribute you added to the end of your video. Very nicely done!
Loved that show so thanks for sharing so many years ago.
What a gentle sweet person he was ...he was like a uncle/ teacher caring for all is children in the 70s ..I learned so much from him ..it's so sad that children today don't have a role model like him...it's impossible not to love him
I have a lot of respect to Mr. Rogers, he's my very first real life people kids show, and I will never ever forget his famous show! We will miss you Mr. Rogers. Me and my family would never forget you.
Thinking back to when I watched Mr. Rogers in the 70's reminds me of when life was so much simpler and carefree as a child. I miss those days of Lady Aberlin, Mr. Owl and The Trolley. This is an exceptional video. Job well done!
Mr Rodgers was a great soul, bye neighbor see you on the other side😓
it's crazy. I never knew he died so long ago because I grew up watching him on tv with reruns so when I heard he passed I thought it was more recent. he's truly been immortalized.
This is such a neat tour of the set! And a beautiful tribute; if anyone truly earned a Lifetime Achievement Award, it was Fred Rogers. When the 'Won't You Be My Neighbor?' documentary came out in 2018, my mother and I were so moved when we learned about the efforts Mr. Rogers made for PBS funding and how much he advocated for children's programming. I was born in '71, and was among that first generation of little ones to love the show. My mom often watched it with me. :)
He made such a positive impact on such a large scale, even after his death.. Notice on CZcams in every video of him, the comments are so polite and respectful, where usually on YT things get pretty ugly. It's like no one wants to disrespect his legacy.
Another interesting fact was that every one of the sweaters he wore were made by his mother.
Thank you for tbis video I just remembered Mr Roger i been watch Mr Roger in 80s . I ths so harad to remember him a was a kid tben well i wil miss him 😭😭 and now i am all grown up now as adult now
I was raised I the 60’s and 70’s! Mr. Rogers was a big part of my life❣️
Thank you for posting this video. I will always cherish the 30 minutes every day I spent watching Mr. Rogers.
My favorite scenes in the Mr. Rogers Neighborhood is the Trolly parts. "Ding Ding!"
I grew up watching mr rogers. He was and will always be my favourite.
I remember watching Mr Rogers as a child and how he would go to random places and meet people who had a special job or talent. I was so moved by the ending thanks for adding it to the video. 👍👍
Kids & adults would not have the lessons if it were not for Mr. Rogers. RIP my you always live in our hearts👍😭😊
now see at the end Mr. rogers is talking like he is talking to us on the TV show! I love that. usually in tv shows the people are completely different from their normal selves
