Jennifer C ...And yet, in so many ways, he already was. No matter what the children viewing his program had going on in their lives, they knew that they could turn to him for love, support, and gentle talk of tough topics that many "grown-ups" have always been afraid to address at all. They could watch him talking with other children -- children just like them -- and know that they're not alone. And that, so importantly, what they feel is actually normal. We could watch his program feeling safe in his wisdom and song, and could trust that he was honest, loving, and truly genuine, without judgment or shame (just the opposite)... even if, for too many children, he was the only one in their world who was.
Not a warrior, not a king, not a rock star. These are not great! Fred Rogers was a great man, truly the epitome of "heart and soul", love and empathy and understanding.
Humanity lost a piece of its soul when Fred Rogers passed away. But his memory remains, and I hope it continues until we as a species are long gone.

Sometimes people think that they have to be tough, and there's nothing really wrong with being tough, but you don't have to be tough all the time, only when toughness is called for. If only people were more open about their emotions and didn't try to hide them away, the world would assuredly be a better place.

I never watched Mr. Rogers when I was a kid, but recently I’ve gone through a very hard time. I realized just how horribly abused and neglected I was as a child. The realization was awful, it was more pain than I could have ever imagined, and this lead to me some of his shows. The first one I watched, Daniel Tiger sang about feeling like a mistake and it felt like all those years finally came crashing down and I just sobbed as I continued to watch, feeling more seen or heard than I have in all 17 years. I feel truly appreciated by this man, despite the fact he’s gone. I feel more love from him than my parents could ever give. Feeling truly loved and appreciated after feeling like a worthless monster, rejected by the two people who are supposed to love you the most is easily one of the purest, most raw emotion I could ever feel. Thank you, Mr. Rogers. I’ll carry this feeling with me forever.

After all those years, reaching all those kids, no matter what color, shape or what, having one of them come back and say to you "It's you I like." must have been among the very highest points of all of Fred Rogers' entire life.

I work as a caretaker and i remeber this one old man from the uk and our walks and then at a random park bench we sat down and he teached me by his example to be silent and i followed this as good as i could. And what ive found was that my heart (its like an energy or feeling - what ever you feel like calling it) was smoothing my whole body and the stress and my anxiety was gone. In the world today people use anything to get their way and will hurt anyone to make their lives better. We see God used to hurt, we see our police officers using their authority to hurt... But I think the worst thing we see is children in need, children that are scared and confused in a world that seems all the more dangerous, but who's parent and loved ones only end up scaring more as they fill them up with the same hate that is making the world worse.
