I started watching Castle as a young Woman in my very early 20s. Originally, I was drawn to the humor of the cast, the chemistry and romance btw the two main Characters and comradrie(sp?) of the cast members (especially during the earlier seasons with Cpt Montgomery)- you could tell they were all genuinely enjoying each other's company. I was never a TV person but I somehow caught wind of the reruns on TNT and then watched season 4&5 on ABC. Out of curiosity, I caught up with old videos on CZcams recently and am a little surprised that most of them are 10 years old... Castle and Beckett seemed like it was not too long ago to me for some reason. There is something timeless about their character, especially Beckett's and the way the writer weave the Character of Castle in to bypass her 'walls.' The chemistry between them on screen is so tangible right from the start, it almost makes me curious about their backstory... I heard the rumors about them not getting along and glimpse of behind the scenes footage here on YT have me inclined to believe that it may not be completely false...I also wonder if they had 'gotten together' somewhere in the earlier seasons of the show, maybe the pilot- which later affected their working relationship.
I am not interested in watching full episodes of Castle because I don't care for the dead bodies or murder (I know) but watching the character development of Beckett ( as it is illustrated in her partnership with Castle) from season 1-5, especially now that I'm older and wiser to catch on to certain nuances and complexities that I missed the first time around just has me in awe of the writers/producers and the actress's portrayal. They tapped into a vein of humanity the way Austen did with Pride and Prejudice - no joke. And to hear Stana discuss the character in a way that I can also understand and agree with Is just great.
It never occurred to me the 1st time around that Beckett was hesitant to pursue a romantic relationship with Castle because of losing her mother the way she did, she was afraid of loving someone wholly and then losing them by not having the relationship work out--- it would be like reliving the loss of her mother all over again. But I see that now and it explains a lot.
I'm not sure what went on behind the scenes but the writers/producers/actors did a lot of things right. Despite whatever drawbacks, this show had the potential to be a 10-12 seasoner ( though it's possible Stana was over it and ready to move on by season 6- even before that and that Nathan may not have been the easiest person to work with--- plus network execs playing mind games, waiting until last minute to make up their mind about renewing for next season).
Though I loved seeing "Always" I think they could have waited an extra season before bringing them together. They could have explored the complexity of Beckett and Castle through them 'dating' before taking the full plunge into a romantic relationship.
The did date for about 3 years at the beginning so the chemistry was real. shame how they ended the series though.

Stana is lovely. She has a sister, by the way, who's not nearly as attractive, but it would be interesting to see if there was a way to work her into this show, maybe playing a relative of some sort like Zooey Deschanel did when she made a cameo on Bones.
