ICELAND Ring Road - Part 3 // East Iceland Fjords// ICELAND TRAVEL 2021

  • Welcome back! We are continuing our Iceland road trip, taking two weeks to drive around the entire Iceland ring road.
In this video, we explore east Iceland. Our first stop is Vestrahorn mountain and the Iceland black sand beach of Stokksnes. Then we wind our way along the coast through Iceland mountains that meet the sea in some of the most dramatic coastline the country has to offer.
The East Fjords are one of the best spots for Iceland photography as there are stunning views around every corner. You can also find some of the best Iceland driving on the ring road, as the road winds in and out of the fjords.
We end up taking a little detour to the coastal town of Seydisfjordur, where the only way in and out is a pretty treacherous mountain road. That's an experience we wont forget!

Keep up the great videos. They are bringing back to many memories of our trip around Iceland back in 2015. Lots of "been there" and oohh "been there" but my favourite was when we went to the same peninsula at Stokksnes to see the lighthouse. The lady that sold us the ticket and said "remember to look at the wiking willage" . We nearly cried laughing. We are looking forward to Part 4.

Always nice to see your videos :) You got quite unlucky with the weather, normally it doesn't snow in June (it can happen but usually not), even if it's Iceland :) Vinbudin literally means "The Wine Store" - Icelanders are really strict with their alcohol and you can not buy alcohol anywhere else except in these government-run stores (maybe a few light beers in stores but that's it). The beer Einstök is a really good one, (Einstök means Unique and the spelling suggests that it's a female. If it was male it would be called Einstakur. Icelandic is weird :) ) Have fun on the Northern side of Iceland, that's actually where I'm from :) (a place called Skagafjordur).

Too bad about the weather but of course in Iceland you can expect anything as you mentioned. My father and his family are from the next fjord south of Seyðisfjörður called Mjóifjörður. Only about 20 people live there year-round and the road is closed about half the year. There is a boat that comes twice a week with supplies during that time.

@@TheAwkwardTourists I do visit most years. My uncle still has a farm there, a beautiful place. It is only about 45 minutes driving from Egilstadir in the summer but some scary gravel roads. Another interesting fact is that around 1900 the population was close to 400 people when the Norwegians had set up two whaling stations there. Most of the farms were then abandoned in the years 1950-1970, only two left.

Every town, no matter how small will have a gas station with bathrooms, also the tourist attractions/ main trailheads will have bathroom facilities.
