Theres no such thing as a private fishing spot. To be honest the guy you pulled up on has a point. You have the whole ocean to fish but yet you pull right up next to him. Go find another spot, theres literally millions of spots out there. What if they or you hook a big fish and it runs into each others lines and breaks off. I go out fishing with my family to get away from all the crowds and idiots here in the city. As a long time fisherman (55 years) I have a different take on this. When you're out in the ocean and you pull this close to another boat that was already there its not what I would do. I get it and it happens all the time now but it didnt used to back in the day. When it happens to me now I just politely ask the other boat if they would like to get in my boat. When I was 12 years old, my father, my brother and myself went fishing on a party boat out of Ponce Inlet. My dad forgot to take his wallet and had no cash except for a couple of dollars. To pay the trip my father convinced the captain to take a personal check, so we got to go fishing. Everyone on board chipped in a couple of dollars to the "biggest fish jackpot". My father thought i probably wouldn't catch anything, so he pput money only on himself and my brother. We were at the stern of the boat just hanging out fishing for red snapper, and I started getting board. I started playing around with the rod pulling it up and down the way you were when you were fishing, and all of a sudden, my pole bent way over. I wasn't using a lighter rod as you were. I was using a deep-sea rig. After much struggling, and with the help of my brother, I landed the fish, a 21 pupnd red snapper which turned out to be the biggest fish on the boat. Of course, I didn't win the pot, because I wasn't entered. On the way back, a really bad strom blew up, and the boat broke down. We had to be towed back in while waves were crashing over the bow and soaking everyone. Fun times.

Unless on a crowded riverbank, spillway or pier with limited room to expand, a fisherman should never position within casting distance of another fisherman--in my opinion. If your guide would've positioned twice that distance away it's likely no offense would've been taken. The fact your guide stated "It's not about etiquette" was totally offensive, and in my opinion he sounded like a bully guide deliberately pushing the boundary when there was no need to be that close. I hope this guide loses business over his inconsiderate behavior. So rude.

We’re fishing right on the bottom and rules are different in every area. If this would have been a flat, I wouldn’t even came close to it. There were a lot things left out that were said first from the other angler. Here’s a question I have to ask. you if the roles were reversed, and that man did it to me how would you feel about it so it’s easy Jason to make an opinion about somebody you don’t know, never met or a situation you might have never been in. Our rules are a little different down here. that reef is broken up into several different pieces and I was fishing a piece that was well away from the main piece. We are also fishing straight down, on a reef. There really isn’t any casting going on. you’re dropping straight to the bottom. In Destin, it is very common to have 5 to 7 boats on the Phoenix, on the Janet,on the liberty ship, and on the brown barge, which are public sunken boats that you can find on Google, and that are automatically plugged into your GPS. The way our rules work down here, Because its open to everyone ..the respectful thing to do is come in slowly and do not wake anyone out or come in the front of the boat in case they have free lines in the back of the boat, which I did. I respect your opinion.

We weren’t within casting distance and we were dropping straight down. This community spot is a series of reefs spread out amongst this general area designed to house multiple fishing vessels. We fished a completely different section. The only time we came in close was initially when he was yelling to figure out what the problem was. Throughout the day there were several other boats that dropped in to fish these reefs while we were there without any issues. Lionel fishes out there all the time and this was the first time anyone has ever gotten upset like this around him so he was caught pretty off guard. Throughout the day we had several other boats come in and fish the exact same spot with us without any issues. I’m obviously not from the area and was just along for the ride, but back home there are a lot of places we fish that are community holes that house multiple boats within the same area at the same time so I figured this was a similar scenario. It was a very large community reef that multiple boats fish every single day. Lionel is out there several times a week and this was the first time anyone had ever gotten upset. The concept of fishing this spot is no different than if you were going spillway fishing or pier fishing. There’s almost always going to be multiple people out there and this spot was designed just for that. It’s a ship wreck broken up into several pieces and scattered over this area so essentially each boat that comes to fish will pick whatever broken piece is available to drop on. If they are all taken up, then it’s probably best to go elsewhere. When we initially were coming in, we were idling in slow to the opposite side of the reef when we heard the guy start yelling. We were confused so we came in closer to see if everything was alright, once we eventually went the other way and started dropping down we were at least 70yds away. Throughout the day we had other boats come in and fish with us with no issues. 👍

In my over 60 years of fishing, I've been in that situation more than once, on both sides of the equation. The bottom line is, it's not worth ruining your day over. There's lots of places to catch fish, and always more places to be found. That guy was probably pissed off all day and still bitching about it when he was loading his boat. I call those guys "one-spot Charlies". They stake their whole day on one spot and if it doesn't work out, they don't have the knowledge or creativity to find something similar (which may even be better than their "honey hole"). All that aside, nice video, looks like you guys made out just fine and had fun. That's what it's all about.

It’s BS that the recreational fishermen, who don’t have the opportunity to fish everyday and do not have the money to pay to have reefs built, have to then deal with paid guides who come out and clean off the only spots they have everyday of the week. I am local to the area and have seen so many of these new “guides” pop up in the last ten years who have no idea what they are doing and follow other fishermen around to steal gps numbers instead of trying to find their own. It was a very large community reef that multiple boats fish every single day. I missed the beginning of the altercation when the other guy was being pretty belligerent. What’s good though is that Lionel has since been in contact with the other guy and they have resolved their differences. Thanks for watching! This kind of content isn’t what I normally want to publish, but I like to keep it real and show all of how our days go on the water.

We only came in close to figure out why the guy the guy was yelling, but once we got back over to where we were heading which was a piece of the wreck at least 70yds away dropping straight down. We were in no way infringing on their fishing haha. Lionel fishes out here all the time with multiple boats fishing the same spot with no issues. It’s a well known and standard practice at this particular spot. The good thing is that Lionel has since been in contact with the guys on the other boat and they have resolved their differences.

How ever you slice it, wrong thing to do. I also have boats, and make it a point not to crowed people.

    Hey guys. Great video.
Do you just catch and release the amberjacks and snappers, or is there a season to keep them?

My man, thanks for watching Amberjack and Redsnapper’s have a season typically red snapper season is June and July, at this time red snapper we’re closed and I believe, but please don’t quote me on that amberjack were close too The Redsnapper were more than keeper size, they only have to be 16 inches and above however, Amber jacks have to be 36 inches to keep.

Both the snapper and amberjacks were out of season in Florida waters but still so much fun to catch!
