I drummed a couple years in high school 15 years ago. I’ve always had an itch to get back into it with an ekit. Did some research and from what I’ve found this is the best value kit you can buy regardless of experience. So I took the plunge. Can’t wait for it to arrive!
For anyone else who's seriously pondered investing in a drum kit for a while: do it. Your only regret will be not doing so earlier.

Great video. I was on the fence between this and a used TD50K, but the used one didn't have the digital high hat and I liked your comments on the compactness since that is important.

Roland got the snare samples right on the TD27. I wish we could get these snare samples in the TD17. Anyone know how?

Sorry if I missed it, but are these sounds 'right out of the box'?
And, if so, are effects such as compression used on the 'right out of the box' sounds?
Or, are the preset kits completely dry? No compression, reverb etc., or the ability to turn them off?
Looking forward to picking one up. Out of sheer curiosity, and because I don't have a set up kit near me, do you guys have a video of playing any of these Roland kits without the samples--just the pad noise in the ambient room?
Thanks for the feedback! We don't have any videos of kits with pad noise in the room. We will discuss this internally and perhaps add a section for this to future videos.
In my experience with e-kits, toms are comparable to someone playing the drums on a couch and cymbals are comparable to playing on a practice pad. It’s annoying if you’re in the same room, but it’s barely noticeable if you have the door closed.
Maybe a stupid question but I couldn't find the answer anywhere... what size drum mat are you using? (which roughly translate the size needed for this kit in the room..)
I'm planning to buy one but want to be sure of the size before hitting the trigger

The manual is surprisingly easy to follow. I am already using features I never thought I would get round to like recording my own samples and adding them to the various parts of the kit. I find the 18 inch ride and the hi hat are not as responsive as i imagined they would be being digital. I find I have to give them a good wack to get them to ring the way I want. They are both a bit dull and dead. Maybe its the default samples attached to them and the volume levels on each instrument. I haven't had time to look into it properly. I also added an extra curved bar with locking clamps at the bottom of the frame passing it through the bass drun unit to stop the migration of the drum pedal, something Roland should really have thought of.
You need to adjust sensitivity in the settings of the ride and hi hat.
@@campbeja001 Agreed but you can literally trigger them by tapping on them with your finger straight out of the box. It's more likely the sounds are too dark and maybe need some EQ. Sound is pretty subjective. One persons great is another persons terrible.
Kick triggers are not attached to the rack to avoid cross talk issues. This is a feature not a flaw. Putting out the spikes on both the kick tower and your kick pedal(s) should get rid of any walking away you might experience.
@@Edrumcenter I built a tennis ball platform and fixed the pedal using cables and screws. Have no cross talk
@@Edrumcenter @Edrumcenter Attaching the bass pedal to the bottom of the frame works perfectly with no cross talk. That's like saying because the Toms are attacked to the frame they're going to trigger the cymbals when you hit them. Thats why there are thick rubber shoes on the frame. The bass drum unit itself does not touch the ground at all. The pedal is now anchord to the new added bottom rail of the frame. The thick rubber feet of the frame dampen the vibration from the pedal from triggering anything else. I am also using Roland's RDH-100 Pedal with noise eater which is the only point of contact with the ground.
Worth the upgrade for someone who had a td17kvx and got it less than 2 years ago? thinking its smarter to get this instead of upgrading the module/ride/snare etc over time.
If you have the money absolutely. Everything about this is better than the kvx except the kick is the same. You should part yours out and sell it but keep a cymbal/tom or two to add to the kv27.
I just bought a 27kv1 with an extra pdx100 plus mount and a $225 hydraulic saddle throne for $2799. I wanted the digital hats on the v2 but couldn’t justify spending $700 more for the hats while also losing the extra pad and throne. 2.0 firmware just released gen 1 and I don’t care about the thin cymbals. The 13 cymbal on the gen 1 is a 3zone and the new 14 thin on gen 2 is only 2 as well.
Would you say now with new version of the td27 software that the vh14 now behaves similarly to when used with the 50x module. It would be nice to see a comparison video of the vh14 performance on both modules (using adequate controls perhaps using vh-13 as comparison on both modules).
Do you know when the firmware update will be available to existing td27kv users?
Yes we feel that with the new firmware on the TD-27 the VH-14D behaves much more like it does with the TD-50X. We will do a video comparison on that! Good idea. The 1.4 firmware which comes on the new TD-27KV2 and VAD504/507 is supposed to be out this month.

Yes it's possible for sure.
Does the rack support an additional upper Tom (so there’s three) and a second floor Tom? Tnx
You can't really get a third PDX-100 for a rack tom, but a second floor tom is possible. We've tried mounting a second PDX-100 on the post at the end of the rack and it actually works pretty well.

I got the TD-11 and want to keep my cureent pads but update to the TD-27 module only because it allows recording eachbpad to a separate track on Logic Pro. I would imagine I could connect my entire TD-11 kit to the TD-27 module, right?
Yes all of your existing pads will work well. The connection to Logic Pro through USB is solid, it's a good choice for your upgrade.
@@Edrumcenter thank you guys. It takes a bit too long to put each pad's input on its own track in Logic with the TD-11. The TD-27 should make it a breeze.

Looking at picking this up! Question for anyone who reads this. How is the kick drum? Ive been looking for an ekit that fairs well with a double bass pedal. Ive heard on some kits that sometimes the kick pad doesn't register sometimes?
Brad practices doubles at 200 bpm and it hasn't missed a hit yet.

Its tight but you can make it work.
I'm really tempted to pull the trigger on this one. How much space would you guys estimate is needed for it when including the throne?
We have this one set up in the shop and it's 5 feet wide by 4 feet deep.
I just bought this kit and it's fully worth it in my opinion. Between the hi hat being on a real stand, size of the pads, and the digital ride, snare and HH it almost tricks me into thinking it's an acoustic set.
including throne just a little more than 4 feet each side.. if youre very tall or sit far away maybe more like 5 feet
I think the kit would be more balanced if it had a immovable Td 30 mesh 12" bass drum pad...just my personal thought

It's a used Mapex H800EB that got traded in.

808 and 909 are included. You can also layer 808 or 909 with any other internal sound or imported sample to create your own unique sound.

No electronic kit is totally silent. So there is still some noise when you are hitting the pads and cymbals. Far, Far quieter than an acoustic kit though. this sounds like a trillion times better than the entry level kits lol, i know that's not surprising, but those entry level kits that cost about $500 in my opinion are bad even for their price.

Less than an hour. Once you unbox everything it goes pretty fast. Plus we set these kits up all the time!

Mine took about an hour after all the unboxing. (and I don't do this all the time like these guys) It was fairly simple, though the type was a bit small for old eyes. The Hi-Hat has some additional steps, but otherwise it is plug and play. Then a lifetime of tweaking to get it all to your liking (which I love). Even adjusting the volume, tone, damping and instrument types for each pad (and zone on the pads) is super easy.

Roland hardware is top-notch. the sound however is not good. it sounds fake and too digital
Good thing you can hook it up to anything via MIDI and use whatever sound you want! The new kits with the new firmware actually sound really good to us. Especially the Production27 kit.
I have a TD-30 and just switched to triggering EZdrummer3 with MIDI. It's a pain to set up but the sounds are a night and day difference in my opinion. (i'd still get this kit just for the quality hardware and digital triggering, and ignore the onboard sounds)

You are a good drummer and i get testing all the sounds but man you took way too long in the testing what everything sounds like so maybe trying when you change to another sound do a solo and let it rip man let it go and rip it. I do not want to sound mean to you but you took your time and a lot of it on each sound just trying solos when you change a sound us drummers will hear the sound change so just rip into a solo and you can do a very good solo brother so let it rip man good job.
