Those who were in attendance were luckier than most....Freddie and Elton in the same night. Good Lord.
Paul? A beatle.
And bowie
Alexthecrazykid seriously, Paul’s only like, the lead singer of arguably the greatest band of all time
Miles Jackson bowie
AND BOWIE AND PAUL MCCARTNEY AND GEORGE MICHAEL

Dabee That's why he is high af. It helps anxiety cause you have no idea what you doing. Plus it's an energy booster...so why not?
well. only the people who own TV's
Under pressure
Steven Tarsitano and had them turned on
I know queen was under pressure... sorry
David Bowie: I’m high and I’m in Live Aid
Elton John: Hold my coke
hold my addiction
YES!
David bowie: k
Cocaine addiction means no falsetto for Bennie & the Jets which is a real let down
LordGandor3 clearly a falsetto here?
2:15 we just going to ignore the fact that he’s leaning on the piano like he’s having a casual chat- while keeping in time, playing the song with one hand without looking at the piano and remembering the lyrics, all while high af? Now *that’s* talent
I can barely play piano while singing let alone with one hand and singing in a huge crowd so casually
Comment that makes my day right there
@@yoh1583 ur comment doesn't make sense to me
Papa Stalin I’m guessing it actually was live- every other band who played at Live Aid was live (Queen, Paul McCartney, U2 etc) so I don’t see why Elton John should be a backing track? His singing was definitely live, and I don’t see any reason why his piano playing wouldn’t be, he was talented enough
cocaine is a hell of a drug
Look at those eyes.....my bro high as a kite
Or maybe its the fact i can see his eyes....
Blue Berry there’s a reason they call Elton “Rocketman”
@@jaysalvoro9834 trueeeeee
Well he is the rocketman
W h y N o t B o t h?
honestly I thought I was the only one who was thinking that
If Freddie was not there, Elton would have stole this stage.. His performance was really good..
WOORAM LEE yeah!!! I read somewhere that Elton said “bastards!” to Queen after their performance 😂😂😂
ROSSELLA DI PEDE wasn’t that Bowie?
According to Jim Hutton it was Elton @@yuckles_c
Nah Bowie did
@@Denniswaardenburg what he say?
It kills me a little inside when he says “Bennie and the jets” and not “b-b-b-Bennie and the jetsss”
Ignacio Man it hurt me mentally when he first said only “electric boots mohair suit” instead of the full line
Lyrics change
Right? It’s not the same without “b b b b b Benny and the jetssssss”
Ikr
maybe it's easy to remember because he was very high in this concert?
me being drunk: cant even finish sentence because cant remember what i was trying to say
Elton: high af, plays piano and doesnt forget lyrics
Respect
Drunk vs high? Not fair comparison doncha think
1:11 "doesn't forget lyrics" sure.....
Haha he forgot some and in the beginning. But I don't think it was that he forgot... He was just so spun, that he was singing faster than he could keep up with lol.
High af withouth forget the lyrics, singing on key, playing the piano with one hand at some parts for like 90% of the world
Dude was coked out of his mind. You see the chick run in at 1:45? She was probably like "Calm the fuck down elton!" He looks erratic as fuck. Still a good performance.
David Bowie, Queen, and Elton John in the same concert, on the same stage!
It doesn’t get any better than that

Paul Mccartney, and Phil Collins too

And your one hell of an idiot.
Robert Michalscheck what makes you say that, this is 1985, everyone is on coke
I miss coke tbh. I’d 100% die if I did it again but man…
2:34 my man's straight up vibing with that keyboard
people are saying he's bouncing to the beat
mans WAS the beat :o
That's Fred Mandel, who was Elton's main keyboardist from 1983 to 1986. He's worked with other musicians, including Alice Cooper, and also Queen. It was actually him who played the synthesizer on the recording of I Want To Break Free.
I just noticed that Elton actually has eyes
Strange, isn't it?
Elton, high AF on coke, with a mullet... gotta love the 80's
No lipsync , No autotune , No playback music. Back then , there were only real musician on stage .
Amen!
I love this performance but I became sad beause he didn't stutter on the b-b-b-bennie parts
Neo Dutra same, that’s the best part of the song haha
also the piano wasnt as good
Dreamz
Whoa now.. the piano was way better in this than the studio version.
@@fbi4189 I like it more because it has sort of like a jazz vibe and it's much calmer than this one. It's just a personal preference
Dreamz
I see..
I respect your personal preference.
Excellent performance. Raw, intense, raspy vocals and a really groovy thing going on. Fuck anyone putting it down cause the man was high.
was elton high during that perfomance
can't wait for the Elton John movie!!
I hope they saved the Live Aid Set from Bo Rap.
In the Luxe Just like Bohemian Rhapsody xD
@@skeletalsounds_ should've mixed real vocals with his. Every other biopic does it and it sounds closer to the real thing
In the Luxe he’s also gonna have a live aid bit lmao
I hope they cover his performance in live aid.
Am I the only one that continually revisits this video for all the comments about him being high on coke?
Frederick Alexander yes
Frederick Alexander nope he was high here it was in the movie he was drunk and high
Penny Lane Live Aid wasn’t in Rocketman though. It was in Bohemian Rhapsody.
it's kinda annoying since it's not like he was the only high person in the 70's and 80's. everyone was high as shit
No 😂😂😂 so high but still so good, is unbelievable
Jean Brooks. Our next-door neighbor who used to crank this song!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!
2:30 oh my god the Stan lee cameos are everywhere!
It's like the piano is a part of his body. He makes it look effortless....Elton John Forever!!😍😍😍
Absolutely off his nut here, and still a level above anyone else on the piano. What a man.
The first time looking into elton's eyes, I knew from that moment that he was definetly high on coke
Anay he stop doing drugs in 1980 so I don’t know what drugs you’re on because he looks perfectly fine
Meyer Gigante not true, be got sober in 1990 bud.
Check him out in the Central Park concert. High as hell.
Maybe,but your high on stupidity.
Had no clue he sounds awesome
Don't know why everyone in the comments is so negative. This is a great performance, whether he was high or not.
sheerri truth sis
Well they’re not really negative some are actually praising for still giving a great performance while high
I didn't see the negative comments. I loved it. The only thing I have is that to me (and a lot of people) one of the main parts of the song is the B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets. He leaves that out a lot when he sings this in concerts. It really bugs me.
@sheerri : Just people that can't think of anything original to say so they just repeat each other.
Accualy most aren't negative they are complementing him on how he was high and did not mess up
He at least can still play the piano, remember his lyrics and sing on key so him being coked doesn’t seem like a bad thing here...
There are many singers who can't bring that kind of fire sober, think I'll forgive his past over indulgences
I mean it is 95% of the world watching and a probably just as many afterwards
Luke Crawford were not forgiving him because he hasn’t done anything wrong all that matters is that he’s done now drugs are only unforgivable if it ruins someone’s life especially if they’re a family member or close friend
1:11 he almost remembers all his lyrics
@@eliascastrotrinidad8948 Dammit your right.. fuck.
I really like this version. The '70s studio and live versions are very carefully crafted and beautiful, but this is kind of a let's get out there and rock and roll
OMG....I remember watching this on television with my dad...who, God rest his soul, was the reason that I loved music from a very early age. I was an 18 year old young girl and had just graduated from high school. I wish NOW that I had rounded up a bunch of friends and gone to Philly that day to at least see the US version of Live Aid. I think we were the first on our block to have surround sound....LOL!! He took his Realistic 8-track am/fm stereo and got it all hooked up thru the tv and the cable box and we were JAMMIN in our basement den that day!! I might have not been there in person....but I grew up to all of this music and I had one HELL of a memory with my dad enjoying these legends and their music....kicking it old school with dad in 1985!!
80s elton was something else
Glastonbury brought me here. Elton was fantastic at his last UK concert. Just wanted to see the man in his prime! What a wonderful performer! God bless him❤❤❤
I wouldn't say he was in his prime here, the bloom was off the rose. The Cocaine, brandy & his ego had got to him & his last truly great album was a few years behind him.
@@pup1008thing is he has 2 different primes one in the studio i mean commercial success and one in his live performances. generally 1979-1986 was his true prime live period because he was actually horrible to listen to live before 1979.(except edinburgh 1976). hes actually better now live than he was in the 70s. but yeah for me he performed best in the 90s. talking about albums, i think he did release a few great ones after like sleeping with the past, the one, made in england, songs from the west coast and following all that.
Only a legend can perform that coked up and still hit those great vocals
It's truly amazing how the small country of Colombia fueled the 70's and 80's.
When 95% of the world is watching, you ingest whatever fucking substance makes you feel comfortable and ready to slay. Did he slay? Undeniably. Even better than many of his other performances of this song. How many people bitching about him being on coke are simultaneously enjoying their adderal prescription? (I'm prescribed, so no judging here).
I love this moment when he turns toward the crowd, 5:21, he seems so shocked like he forgot he was high and performing in front of the entire world
You know a singer is talented when live performance is better than studio recording.
No pressure, he made it look easy!
The people who went to Live Aid had the best time ever: Queen, Elton John and George Michael all in 1 night. 🥺
And David Bowie, black Sabbath
And a Reunited Led Zeppelin
Lucky fellas
even though Queen is getting a lot of publicity right now for a great performance here, Sir Elton was just as great on Live Aid !
There's others too... like ultravox
definitely not just as great as queen, but still amazing

I think you'd have to be coked out of it to perform on front of 95% of televisions broadcasting companies.

99% of comments talking about drugs! I prefer to extol this man's talent!
Unfortunately, people don't value talent like this when he's alive. They prefer to focus on his weakness, and it's so destructive..
Long live to Elton John! Epic performance!
Is this the greatest ever rock singer player the world has ever seen?
I'm here for the "I don't understand the negative comments" comments.
1:14 that moment when you think your about to have a heart attack from all the Coke you did but then realize "nope in good, LET'S GO!!!"
Yesterday it was 35 years ago. I am celebrating it today by watching it allover, and trying to get as drunk, as I was 35 years ago while watching on a 20" tv in a 35 square meters appartment, with 12-15 others and the sun was hammering down outside - just like Wembley.
There was'nt many huge screens back then in Denmark...
Will always like the early Elton John less blaring, more hungry, the cocaine put this performance over the top.
Went to a few concerts in the 80's but this was the best ever. A great memory
Such a brilliant performance Elton. Never fails to steal the stage, all my respect to this incredibly talented man. ❤️
LonglivetheQUEENS personally thought this performance was better than queens
Freddie and Elton are my favorite pianist, fun fact that no one asked me is that Freaddie and Elton where really good friends and they drug themself
1:11 When Elton said "Bears a spot aheavah, the sum'll change the weathah" I felt that....
i was searching through the comments section to find somebody who said something about it lmfao

He has enough energy here to jog twice around the world. LOL Jammin' like a king. Love this performance.
I had a friend who lived down the road. He was lucky enough to have one of those huge satellite dishes in his back yard. We hung in his basement and watched the broadcast. Little did we know or understand the history we were witnessing. I'd love to tell you we grasped the magnitude of seeing this concert...we didn't, but I'm so DAMN glad I get it now.
If you were white and was on soul Train you were a bad ass singer the Black community love's Elton John in 2020!
I don't understand the negative comments... I think this is a great performance... with an awesome horn section... a legendary band... at a historic concert... Elton John rocks this and he looks pretty cool too! :)

Without his glasses he has this intensity in his eye and I somewhat like it that he's that deep into the zone even if he is high
I watched all of this with a friend.such a long time ago.
live aid truly was something special
Really, people think that the 1980 Central Park performance was coked out? Have they seen him in this!?
well, he was upset over his begonias being blown away by a helicopter earlier that day.
thevoid99 Also the sound from I'm Still Standing that was the actual one he opened with was absolute dog shite. There's a hard cut between :42 and :43 where the stage isn't lit at all then it goes to a full red/orange, and what they cut out was that song. You can still find it on YT but I'm not surprised Elton said don't include it because it's one of the worst sounding performances of his ever.
He was on coke during the 1980 performance. He wasent strung out as much as he is here or in 1982 lol but he was high.

This song of Elton's is one of the most iconic Rock/Pop songs of all time. It's carried the generations, & only a select group of songs can claim that after 40 years. It's a gift to watch him & his band play it LIVE. Now that I think about it, it's closer to 50 years!
Thank you for giving to those in need!
elton john before every concert used drugs to help him get through (well most) its normal for artists really he had a lot in his personal life he is a great preformer

This era of UK artist had TALENT..
Crazy that five years later Elton himself got sober and started his own Aid foundation. If he’s not inspirational I don’t know what is.
PURE TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Genuine talent!!
Freddie and Elton's stage presences are the best out there. Like Freddie has amazing moves and can command the crowd with a wave of his hand. And Elton can explode with energy without moving from the piano and can command/pump up the crowd with one look.

Is this the most underrated performance in British musical history?!
What I would give for being un Live Aid...

I love the way he sings "Candy and Ronnie"
1:22 his eyes are bulging out of his head... nose and throat numbed out... heart racing... probably thinking he needs to do another hollywood sized rail after the song
The groove in this is so good
Elton shredded the shit out of this song.
Humanity peaked right about there. It’s a funny feeling to miss times you have never lived
I love how every time Elton sings a song he sings it different. It might just be because his voice sounds older or if he actually sings in another voice but I love having all these different versions of song as I’ve never seen so much variety in a single song as you can listen to the original version of Bennie and the jets or the live aid version or Tarons version.
I know it's a terrible drug but we need to thank cocaine for the best performances of the 80's
I’m on an Elton John discovery as an artist who was way before my time. As an addict myself I can 1000% tell he is quite high on cocaine here. His story makes me want to get clean as well
