  • In this video I show how thinking has "taken over" our ability to directly experience emotions. Before thinking, there was the direct experience of the emotional world.
BTW, if you haven't checked out "No Self No Problem" an article in the Wall Street Journal just named it one of the top five books on the brain. It's number 2. You need a subscription to read it.

And emotion also clouds thinking.. and thought can keep bad emotions from being expressed. I’m really happy to have a rational, logical part of the brain to keep me balanced. I would not want to live my life as a pre 2 year old. Thinking is a gift and meditation has taught me that what I seek beyond thought is just a quiet awareness but not emotion. Just my two cents. Thought provoking for sure

It would be interesting to experience emotions without left brain's interpretation of them. In my experience, there is so much filtering done through thinking to a point where emotions can be suppressed without realizing the act of suppression. Perhaps a form of analysis paralysis with a dose of coping that comes along with the illusion of control.

Opposite for me I think, I have felt mega depressed since yesterday, then my thinking brain makes up a story about why it’s depressed and wants to die.
