My dad served as the Section Incharge of the 5 sqn Ambala flying tuskers, having served 35 years in the IAF retiring recently as an instructor of the electrical systems at the Jaguar Tetra school GKP. I love this aircraft, fond memories spending my childhood sitting in the cockpit during badakhana.

Very nice and informative video. Advantage of Jaguar is low flying to avoid radar detection and low speed to accurately pinpoint and hit target. This aircraft flying from Mumbai can reach Karachi via Arabian sea and hit enemy and return. Similarly in mountainous terrain, this aircraft can surprise enemy by hiding itself in hilly areas. AESA radar is very useful and wise addition.

    • @r8rdarklord
      @r8rdarklord Před 2 lety

Those are some ancient radar tech that would allow Jaguar to go in undetected. The current AESA radar on a J10c or JF17 Blk 3 will detect a metal-bodied jet-like Jaguar from far & take it out in BVR.

This will eventually reduce procurement cost of (114+56) fighter which we want to procure. airforce and navy but will be able to complement the need. And as we are already buying 36 rafale it will help in future as we will have facility for spare parts.

Since jaguar is a very reliable bomber why can't HAL pruduce a new Made in india similar aircraft with state of art technology. This will be a win win situation for the airforce and the country, the makers of jaguars definitely won't have any say since there's no new productionn of this aircraft.

Jai Hind. It was nice to know we are still using decades old European fighters without any major accidents.
    Compare to Russian famous MiG-21..
Also we should talk more about our foot soldiers and their equipment which are less costly and still we as a country are unable to provide a made in India simple assualt rifle. Ultimately the wars are won by foot soldiers.

India opted for Viggen, but the US did not give permission to use American engines in the Viggen.
Also, the hardpoint above the wing, I think is an Indian introduced solution.

I'm sorry, I have to bring out facts. I have flown the aircraft. It does not go supersonic.
It was the WORST ac we ever bought, a millstone around our neck. I found it the most difficult aircraft to escort. It flew at very low speeds and needed constant guidance by us, from the Mirage 2000 fleet. Its RoA was abysmal and certainly MUCH LOWER than the MiG-27. Its load carrying capacity was ridiculous. If you slung 2 x 500 lb (250 kg) bombs under each wing, it couldn't carry fuel. If you fuelled it fully, you couldn't carry any bombs! It would then carry 8 BAP-100 lightweight cluster runway denial bombs. It was very prone to engine disorder and required 18-2200 m to take off. Landings were hook assisted, but it could stop even otherwise in 2000 m. Its HUD was prone to screen freeze/hangup, had no AP and resulted in at least 20 deaths due to disorientation.
Things have changed today, post upgrade. It has taken up all ECM eqpt removed from the Mirage 2000. It has a decent radar and an AP. With AAR, It can carry a fair payload with greater accuracy and at a decent speed. It is structurally load limited, and has been tasked accordingly.
THIS AC CANNOT LAND AT DAULAT BEG OLDI OR MECHUKA. This is an outrageous statement.

So IAF retire wrong aircraft Instead of retiring those kabad Mig 27 IAF should have retire those Jaguars ?

My assessment was based on theoretical information, but yours is practical, so I have to believe you.
But I guess, HUD issue is no more there, It has better navigation system and has a better Radar now.
And about payload issue, I have actually shared a picture of IAF Jaguar carrying decent payload at 2:47, so I guess that issue is also addressed now.
About engine issue, that too I have picked up, but wasn't aware of the fact that it cannot go supersonic, didn't found out about it anywhere.
Lastly about landing and taking off from Daulat Beg Oldi, with the take off and landing distance you are talking about sir, it doesn't seems like it can now, which again is something which I didn't found during my research.
But it must be true, as you have the experience so I have to agree to you.

@@kanishkdhanker0280 HAL Bangalore would close down. The ac could not climb above 24,000'. The MiG-21 could not escort it, because of the low speeds. FYI, the Jaguar accident/incident rate is higher than that of the MiG-21. Its second engine has saved it many a time, while the MiG-21 was lost.
Russian ac are hammered into place...their rivets pop out regularly. They are damned dirty aerodynamically. The life span of the MiG-21 was 1200 airframe hours, which we extended to 1800. Each Mirage 2000 flies 7-800 hrs per year. The Jags also had a long airframe life- for a simple reason: they were rarely subjected to stress. The IAF was gifted numerous Jaguars which we upgraded in time. Now that AAR is available, it has become a flyable ac.
