  • Why do we forget names? Why is learning important? In this episode I discuss the main reasons we forget things, how to improve memory and learn even if you don't like the subject, and why learning correctly is one of the most beneficial things we can do to improve our mental health. This is the fifth episode in my Think Learn Succeed series.

    I find your information very comforting, because I did not learn many of the things that you are teaching about in this video. You know the saying “ you keep doing what you are doing until you know better” I have learned so many positive and productive ways to think and learn from your books and podcast. You are such a blessing to my life, and the people that I am able to share your teachings with. Thank you !

    I would love a podcast that specifically addresses memory as related to aging.

    Dr Caroline, absolutely am sponging on your podcasts - for such a time as this!!! Your constant talking of mind management is totally helping me to get 'unstuck' and sharing with others you simple but profound message has become a passion! This show particularly impacted me since I believe some of my memory loss is because of an arrested development due to a childhood trauma - I was wondering if you have an episode that addresses this please. Thank you - Diana ... fellow South African :)

    Watching/Listening from the U.K. 🇬🇧:
    Thank you Dr Caroline Leaf: I have a couple of your books and followed your pattern of morning prayer regarding Renewing of the Mind. Found all materials extremely good. I will be linking up to your new offers. Currently 67yrs and becoming aware of ‘BLANKS’ in memory when speaking. Realise the modern world does not do us any favours regarding mental health! Particularly the internet and the speed it travels at. Thank you again for very important information 👏👏👏

    I have been running across bits and pieces of this information for years. This has everything all in one place and Dr Leaf’s methods of organizing make learning how to “train your brain” easy. Very thankful for the countless hours that must have been put in to present this information in such a simplistic way. I have already employed much of what is talked about and know it works. Really excited and optimistic about incorporating the new material.

    Love your podcasts! I have been having trouble myself focusing because my mind tends to drift a lot but will definitely try this out! Thank you. By the way, I was looking through the rest of your podcasts and didn't see one on autism. I was diagnoaed with autism as well as a good friend of mine and was wondering what you had to say about autism in adults. Thank you so much!

    This helped me a lot and perfect timing as I had to run home today because I forgot to turn on my crock pot. I am noticing more and more how forgetful I become when I am trying to hurry and do too many things at once. Now I can learn how to slow down and do one thing at a time and do it well.

    I don't know what the mental block is when I listen to you, but everything you said about paying attention, and being present, and everything that it takes to multitask, and everything else it kind of goes in one ear and out the other. I don't know if it's the accent, I don't know if I'm always just busy at that time, but I had to force myself to sit through every single moment of this, and my mind just drifts. I don't know if it's nutritional, if there's a lack of rest, or what. All I know is I'm trying, and I'm struggling. I don't know if you could just say a prayer for me, but I would really appreciate it. However All Mighty God leads you.

      Prayed for you too. When the enemy knows you are close to a breakthrough he will fight it. Keep going. And following the "Laws of Health" will help too. NEWSTART - nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, air, rest, and trust in God 🙏🏾

      Sometimes just getting discouraged can keep us from focusing. I am sure that discouragement produces toxic chemicals flowing through your brain. Instead, give yourself some grace while you are beginning a new practice. Don't be so hard on yourself. Obviously there were a few things you did take away- Paying attention, being present- nutrition, rest- just get back and try again deeply thinking about at least one of those things she said. :)

    Personally, I want to do the 63 days journey on how to detox your brain, but I don't know which podcasts to start with. Secondly, I really need to find ways on helping especially my son with increasing his memory because he had an issue with remembering what he's learnt. I would be so grateful if I can get help and direction in these. Thank you so much.

    But how is it that you thank God, praise God and worship God several times as you lecture? Is that not multitasking it you are cognitively focused on both tasks at the same time? I’m not being critical; I’m just trying to understand what is and isn’t multitasking. I read Switch on Your Brain and I still don’t understand. Thank you!

    • @evelynmariayeshua
      @evelynmariayeshua Před 5 lety +1

      Caroline Just my thoughts on your Q. As someone who carries The Holy Spirit within them, which is a spiritual dimension ... there is no effort required to worship The Lord, but that of gratefulness. The position of gratefulness in the heart of a spirit filled Christian is as though a flood gate opens up inside And flows out with thankfulness. When this becomes habit, having been practiced over weeks and months and years, it becomes second nature, like breathing. Scripture tells us to give thanks in all things . But as Dr Caroline Leaf is explaining here, it all starts with DELIBERATE INTENTIONAL EFFORT on our part, to develop good habits that BUILD SOLID FOUNDATIONS in our brain. A Christian has the help of the Comforter Who is The Holy Spirit. So as it says ... if God is for us, who can be against us and prevail ....... no one .... but then it is for us to take up the challenge and practice what is good for us.
      I hope this makes sense and you don’t find my comment offensive ... I don’t know you but pray there is something here that is positive and a help.
