  • Work Tuff Gear Lamigo, full field test and review.
    I took my Work Tuff Gear Lamigo into the Aussie bush for a thorough testing. The Work Tuff Gear Lamigo is a sabre grind, full tang fixed blade with a convex edge. Featuring a useful shaped lanyard hole and textured G10 scales with varying color options. The Lamigo can handle many tasks and is definitely a multi-purpose knife. Comfortable even with wet hands, well balanced ergonomics. A well made Kydex scabbard perfectly suits this D2 blade (Bohler K110). The spine is nicely tapered too to a tough tip that is not "afraid" to pry (carefully-like we all should) into dead wood. For D2 the corrosion resistance was quite good. I spent a day on the coast with saltwater spray and then submersion multiple times in clean running fresh water. The HRC (57-59) and the oxide coating no doubt aid this corrosion resistance. The blade coating too provides a good anti-reflection surface too. The blade really held an edge too without any sign of chipping. Totally recommend the Lamigo.

      Yeah what I didn't show in that sequence of shots was how big that branch actually was. There was quite a bit of weight in it and I knew if I just worked it like that it would go. If u have the weight and cut a "V" into the upper side then just notch either end of the "V" section, it will go for sure. What u do is good too but I try not to use that technique for horizontal running branches or trunks that are vertical if they are on uneven rough ground. My reasoning being if you are working around the trunk in a circle there is more chance to stumble if the ground is uneven. Of course if it isn't uneven they sure. And yeah, green makes a difference. The ground around the branches I was cutting was full of obstacles like large rocks and plants and more branches, so the last thing I needed was to stumble. As usual, thanks for watching.

      Yeah I was just being in a reasonably small somewhat human maintained piece of forest. No real outback dangers there. Makes perfect sense to be careful in true wilderness. Glad you're staying save!

    what about bringing a short heavy machete or kukri ?

    • @BushCampingTools
      @BushCampingTools  Před 5 lety

      Hi, yes that's also a good option. Although maybe if I took my Kukri I'd still bring a smaller knife. The Golok I have (a modern one by FKMD) I often use for preparing food so I'm very used to using it for cooking- it could be a good choice too.

    Great Channel. How does the edge hold up and also is there any rust issues that appear quickly. Look like much better value than many other knives of similar size

      Hi , firstly thanks for coming to my channel. Ok so to answer your question, it is no. Despite my bad treatment of submerging the blade and using it in a wet environment for a couple of weeks LOL. I found some discolouration to the blackening (not rust I checked with a hand lens and it rubbed off with my fingers. He is doing a fine job of heat treatment with that D2. I know D2 isn't by any means corrosion resistant and should be treated accordingly but this somewhat of course depends upon the HRC, too high like 60 and above is going to require more stringent attention if the blade gets wet. I'm want a blade to be used and not looked at, which means trouble free service. Don't get me wrong I still love my high carbon blades with zero chromium but without question they will always require full attention when used a lot. To answer your second part, yes these are very very good value I feel.

    One question: the drilled hole in the blade is presumably for a lanyard but isn't it a weakspot for the blade? The video itself: good work as always, I bought an Ontario Marine Combat SP-1 after watching your video about it. Your experience with it convinced me to take it as my choise for a bushcraft knife. Greetings from far away Germany.

      Hi, I 'm not sure about that. There would have to be some sort of finite element analysis done under laboratory conditions. I think in practical real world (outside the physics laboratory) the knife is more than tough enough. Yes the spec plus is an excellent knife. Mine has been on many an adventure. Thanks for your great comments!
