In this Outer Worlds video, we look at all the perks, to try and determine what are the best.
The Outer Worlds is a first-person action role-playing game set in a world where megacorporations have started colonizing and terraforming planets far from Earth. The game takes place in the Halcyon system, where the player awakes from cryosleep, soon discovering that most of the passengers on their ship are still in hibernation. With a strong focus on roleplaying, the player is able to make choices that cause the plot to change as they progress through the game. The Outer Worlds features well-written dialogue and lore, with the various factions, planets, characters and their interactions bringing the world to life. The Outer Worlds is developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Take-Two Interactive's publishing label: Private Division.

They can keep the perks. I just want a flashlight and some grenades
Same. The perks are all really dull. I had the choice of sacrificing a point in both mind attributes for a perk. Not even close to worth it.
*I* just want a flashlight.
Flashlight would be nice. Grenades not so much. I would just kill myself or my companions with them anyway. Lol
I hope they add them in DLC
That was not the word I read, when I read this.
You know exactly which word I'm talking about.
New drinking game: Take a shot every time Scott says "niche".
Ultimately too..Thought I was the only one..lol...

But if I am dead I can't like, subscribe, and watch the next video. >.>;
Oh come on man, on supernova difficulty companions dies permanently, so having perk which let you revive them is actually really good choice
Very few of the guides I see on CZcams are for Supernova difficulty.
Wait, it revived them even on supernova?!
@@clouduslakestream8781 yup, I can confirm. It really helps when you don't have to constantly reload your last auto-save after your companion(s) dies for good on Supernova.
Man, I really need to get into this game already
Mah-Dry-Bread - Gameplay & Streams! You do person I don’t know.
Beat The Outer Worlds with only Pikachu pls and thank you.
Play it if u haven't
FUN FACT: "Don't Go Dyin' on Me!" works on Supernova difficulty - in other words, unlocking this perk allows you to revive dead companions.
Companions actually die instead of getting "downed" when their health reaches zero on Supernova difficulty; this means you no longer have to reload the last auto-save when you accidentally get your companions killed, as long as you take the 15-minute cooldown into account.
This perk may not be too useful on Normal difficulty, but it is a MUST-HAVE gamebreaker for those playing on Supernova.
That would go well with that one science weapon that can revive your teammates and heal them
Not sure you tinker enough if you've never hurt for bits.
Right, I almost thought about maxing out my science because of it.
I pick up everything, because I need the bits for tinkering, so the 3 weight perks are invaluable for me. Thanks for another great vid!
I’m a hoarder....I think I may take all those increase carry weight perks.
That is what I did and I have no regrets. Only if there was more increase carry weight perks.😆
I basically sold 90% of the stuff I picked up and another 9% were just filler in my inventory at the boss fight
Game is easy enough that you can pretty much take whatever perks you want.
yeah it's not like we can have a build to do 2k damage per shot... right? Wait...
Right? hoarding isn't a habit, it's a way of life
I got to have and use Companions in most games I’m already doing a lone wolf,no friends Playthrough in real life 😢
Its funny cause it's true.
Cry me a river.
Doing better then me I started out as a dumb caracter slaving away for corporrations. My companions are only there to take my shit and never there in time of need. You're not alone brother you're part of a pack of wolfs.
16:02 don't go dying on me works in Supernova though, making it my favourite perk
It's saved me from reloading quite a few times
The consumable weight down actually made a huge difference in my game. Giving me about 50 extra pounds of carry weight. And no I'm not a hoarder. Even with science at 100 I was spending all my bits on tinkering. I need the money. Finishing the game with all level 35 gear on me and my companions. And then passing all the checks to not even fight the final boss.
I love the melee build guys thank you so much!!
Very good guide.
Pretty much what I had already decided on.
Though it touched on some aspects, that I had not completely understood!
Very useful, in helping me finalise some thoughts, with regards to different builds!
Definately worth a watch!
Your Outer Worlds videos are brilliant: exhaustive insight for every kind of player -- thank you!
Just finished supernova with your leader build. Ridiculously op lol. Now to do paladin...
Love outer worlds but even moreso thanks to you. 👍 👍 👍
Please make a dumb dialogue character.
Cough cough Dirty Arty build
And unlike fallout you arent gimping yourself when leveling up. I liked my 1 int 10 charisma New Vegas character but god, 10 skill points a level vs the average 15 was painful
My next character will be a dumb brute character that uses melee primary
dumb, max charm, and good/ v good strength.
My dumb character is evil, so far I have laid waste to Edgewater.
“Of course, we’ll be using the Armor Master standing for this build.”
Well done explaining every perk 👌👍 Thank you.
Thanks for the video. Captain Build is my favourite
I'm just waiting for an assassin melee build now. I've tried my own but I'm waiting to see what they come up with as I loved the gunslinger build
I have toughness on my stealth character, because there ARE some places, even early on, where stealth just doesn't work.
That was a really good breakdown of the perks
Would love to see a Mandalorian style build for this game. It's something I'm working on in the game now but haven't gotten very far.
For Mandalore!!!!
So long rifle and handgun with high charisma that works for the corporations due to them paying the most.
@@Ebola419 well not so much of high charisma. I mean he's a Mando not Han Solo hah. But yeah I'm looking at high perception and Intel. Still looking at either medium or heavy armor
You can raise intimidation, lying, and the persuasion skill. They all provide combat bonuses as well as different dialogue choices.
@@ulfhedinnnomad4942 might as well use heavy armor. True mandos have high quality armor
Awesome video, Great insight! Can you do best to worst companions?
"plenty of bits with not alot to spend them on"
Someone never tried tinkering an item to max lvl w/o maxed out science skill
Even with max science I still find myself running out of bits very quickly when tinkering.
I love Ellie so much that I just had to max out her white jacket. Cost me a fortune in money, but a good woman is worth her weight in gold. Many of the science weapons enter your inventory at a low power level. Bits are the only way to raise their level when you hit character level 20 and higher.
On supernova, traveler is the most useful perk. It's basically a "save anywhere" while you're in the open without having to drop your loots.
@ FudgeMuppet Great vid. But can you tell me what the background music is please, or who it's by at least? Or if anybody else knows?
What’s your preferred background feat? I thought the +1 to a skill was fine at first but I realized the food or drug feats may be more useful
Question - what would be a good set up for someone who plans to focus on shotgun and explosive type weapons while having companions handle the other distances (one long and one close/melee)?
Could you folks do a companion video for this discussing perks on Supernova? The ability to carry more or revive your companions is a lot better with no fast travel and perma death
You should make the "Quicksilver Reaper" that uses most of the Time dialation perks and speed increasing perks (also melee healing and hp restore on kill). You just run around super fast killing everyone 😂
Hey do you plan on doing a breakdown of the 'best' Flaws in the game? I've not been taking advantage of the system, but I could see some people wanting to know what is out there, how to trigger them and exactly how detrimental to their experience they would be. So it seems like something people would watch.
The thing about these perks like armor master that boost skills is that the abilities don't unlock right? Example if I want the ability that unlocks at Science 100, I can't have 70 science plus 30 science boosts from perks right? I need to be at 100 from skill points alone I think. This feature is odd because then, I will end up have skills much higher than 100 if I use boosts, and is there ever a reason to be above 100 at anything?
i hope DLC's add Perks/Appitudes. Even though there's a lot of ways to play, it feels like a lot of builds will have the same perks.
Awesome guide! Can’t wait to get the game and smash anyone I can’t charm :-)
It's really easy to talk your way out of just about everything in this game. It's one of those where they give you 2-4 options to resolve just about everything and as a result whether you're a genius, idiot, charismatic leader or snarling lonewolf, you can get the same resolutions just often with very slightly different dialogue
I picked up only the +100 weight perk. Let me hold onto a heavy and a light set of gear simultaneously.
Make a Lone Wolf/Silver 👅 build. Not sure the weapon choice, because I have not played the game as of yet. would love to see and hear your comments of the play style.
Is there a place to store the extra crap I carry around at the start of the game? I don't have access to the ship container yet. Mainly all the heath food.
I liked The Collector because it freed up a mod slot on my armor and I like to see dead bodies in the tall grass
Hey Fudgemuppet, if you want to have a great story arc, use Felix and Vicar Max together. It's amazing, at least in my playthrough.
Was hoping for a vid like this, Thanks!
The 20% speed to your sprint is insane
I'm playing on supernova difficulty and seeing how enemies dying from 600-700 DMG is very unusual.
After watching some of your builds I do 3000+ DMG(25lvl basically one shot machine) and supernova difficulty became easy...
The world's is overflowing with everything starting from ammo that counts in thousands and finishing with loads of meds that you never use because you are OP AF without them. My next playthrough will be Melee build and we will see how it goes..
Love this guide, but there's one thing I disagree with. Tactical Master isn't just good for melee characters. I personally think it's good on whatever build you can think of, some more than others, of course. It's great for stealth builds, allowing you to slip past guards in the blink of an eye, as well as snipers, who can very quickly clear out a group of enemies without having to wait on the slow fire rate which is made even worse in TTD. At the very least, it gives you a get out of jail free card for when combat gets a bit too dicey, allowing you to activate it, and either quickly reposition yourself, or just flee from combat all together with your 5 seconds of what is essentially lighting fast movement speed.
Hey Michael and Scott, gotta question for you :
When you assign a weapon to a companion, do you need to give them the appropriate ammo as well? Or does the weapon you give them instantly have infinite ammo?
Infinite ammo. Gave vicar max a better shotgun then his starter, and never had to worry about ammo
Nyoka's initial weapon is a Spacer's Choice Light Machine Gun with plasma damage. The DPS rating is 1867 at level 30. Never worry about ammo, and with the high rate of fire, 610.86 rpm, thank goodness for infinite ammo.
I wonder how these stack up for Supernova difficulty? And what about companion perks?
4th! No wait nvm there's 8. Dammit. Also: great vid. Thanks. Keep up the great work
Does anyone know if the Science weapon buff perks apply if you give your companion the science weapon?
hope you guys will do a supernova focused build
Dang second also scott you sound almost exactly like michael
So what’s the new “atronach stone”?
Should do a stealth melee build. Haven't seen anyone do that yet. Just the same 4 builds across most content creators. Time Sniper, Leader, Tank Two-Handed, and Science
Leaving fixing the unreliable as the last thing I do has made hoarding uniques very difficult, I get cucumbered a lot. That lm gun is freakin awesome though.
Tactical Dilation is also useful if you are near death and need to run for cover.
Few bits more only really works if you're on a Minigun build
Drug addiction, food addiction, paranoia, elemental weaknesses, canid phobia and raptidon phobia are all very easy to deal with flaws on hard mode. Phobias of mechanicals, primals, and mantisaurs are death sentences and all the other flaws' draw backs are not worth the price.
I always need more magpicks
Can you add the appearance in the build videos. I'll watch all the ads
You know, your Captain build can easily out class the paladin build by leveling science after getting the baseline of the build, and do 90% of its damage, which is impressive because that's essentially double what you need to one shot everything in the game.
Cheetah is a must have on Supernova difficulty.
When's that next build tho 👀
A few bits more is decent if you use heavy weapons exclusively. Some heavy weapons burn ammo fast
I have the same top 3 as you for the same reasons, but I personally rank Toughness best. If I could only have 1 perk in the whole tree, it is the one I would take. I rank armor master slightly less because for characters I make, I plan to max out their skills that emphasize their main focus, and so I dont need the bonus; and unless I'm specifically making a niche jack of all trades character, I dont want to chance clothes all the time to shore up weak spots in skills. I would prefer to live and die by my skill consequences, and pump those weak skills on a different character in a different playthrough. This makes Armor Master #2 for me.
I play on hard and I get all the weight perks cuz I'm lazy but I imagine not wasting perks will be more important in my super Nova playthrough
How about a hybrid of melee and range character?
You should make a heavy weapons build
I don't think the weapon/armor durability perk is needed. Especially since you say a couple times in the video how many repair kits you find just questing and breaking down gear. I'm swimming in repair kits, don't see why I'd waste a perk just to swim in more.
I think the collector perk can actually be useful if you opt to play a sneaky and passive character.
A lot of main levels feature an in-door facility littered with containers to loot
Not that i wanna complain, but I'm really starting to miss my Deadrologist content before bedtime. :(
Toughness, Harvester, and Armor Master for every build, basically. Your mileage may vary with all others.
Will you guys share Sloane's character creation?
I argue that the traveler perk has more use than the pack mule perks. Instead of wasting 3 perks for increased carry weight, use just one and travel back to a vendor or your ship and unload your waste. Save on 2 perks.
Fuckin damnit this is useful as hell. You’re the man, this was beautifully done. I have zero doubt in the choices I make now. Thank you
I’m more than half way through the game on my first play and I’ve never even used time dilation, it honestly just seems like a gimmick to me. Also neve had a companion use one of their special techniques either.
I use the Cheater perk on my sniper, so if they are coming at me I can get distance and do a fighting retreat.
Love me some Outer Worlds.
2 companions + no points invest in companion skills + 2 ranged science weapons set them to range only attacks (gloop and either shrink ray or mind control) is > 25% extra damage and fun =). i prefer the mind control gun over shrink ray because the range is really far.
I did all of the side quests and I’m finding my second playthrough not as fun did I do something wrong?
I mean. You played the game already, so if knowing what happens already ruins it a bit for you thats alright. If the gameplay isn't that great for you its gonna lose a bit of luster after the first run bc the mystery is gone
Another great video! This is honestly not a shot against the Epic store - I genuinely cannot wait for this to come to Steam or even better (hopefully) the Switch!
Obsidian confirmed there will be a Switch port, they just haven't given a release window yet.
@@FormOfKorn Nice! thanks for the update! Last I saw was just that Obsidian was simply surprised it would run on the Switch. Guess I'll just pick it up for w/e it comes out first on.
@@WarMonkeyPlays have you seen some of the games that run on the Wii U? It’s much more powerful than people think!
16:10 “you should be able to handle combat by yourself” but sir I’m horrible at games 😭
Do a Skyrim build for a soul snatcher or soul reaper or trapper whatever you want to call it!
The best perk in outer worlds is the "drop items on ground, quick save, then quickload" perk
hy i lose my point if i dont pick some one? becouse im lvl 7 and just have 4 perks pick.. :DD
I have 800 weapon parts and 600 armor parts....imagine if they weighed something, oh lawd.
even if they were worth 0.1 lbs that would still be 140 lbs of valuable inventory gone.
Don't think something defensive should be considered the best perk cuz once you're really good at not taking damage, it won't even be that useful in anything that isn't a tank build.
I mixed your sniper build with the captain so i didn’t have to use companions
My first playthrough I went with a charasmatic leader build and the game was actually TOO EASY on normal difficulty. You can get out of almost every fight (including the "end boss") with every faction revering you (except board at the very end). My newer "dumb" melee build was much harder until I got to level 15 or so.
Confidence + The Reaper = Unlimited Tactical Master?
Sooo armor master is the Atronach Stone?
Yeah... my biggest issue with Weight is not going back to the ship and offloading enough. I horde, and move on, without selling or storing and that gets me over weight. It is a bad habit and with this game having a reasonable carry weight creates issues. Though I will say my play times would be much smaller if I did not horde EVERY item to the point where even my companions just want to go home already.
Best Flaws: All of them, on Supernova, blind.
"I find enough mag picks." Sweet little lies.
Resilient adds +10 armor in my game. May be a display bug, or due to the difficulty, or background I picked (factory worker) and armor adding dodge/defense skills.
If you level up Lockpick early on you don't use Mag picks so you end up with quite a lot.
@@Arkaskas1 You still use them with max lockpick. 50 carries you through the bulk of the game, and with gear, there is no reason to have 100. Just throw on weightless glasses, hats, or lightweight helmets with armor master.
The only reason to have 100, is for long guns, etc. Since you still gain passive skill bonuses for having 114+/100. Lockpicking doesn't have passive bonuses, except from the 20 point thresholds.
@@lancehenry8170 I've only played the Emerald vale region and I'm a completionist. With 40 lockpick I've right now 40+ magpicks and locks at these levels don't require any. There are a couple of doors that require magpicks but these can be unlocked with keys so I don't use them. Later on I'll probably spend them due to higher requirements but I'll also find more. Also magpicks are cheap so It's not a problem.
@@Arkaskas1 Exactly. You have to buy magpicks. You don't find enough.
but why there is no difference in stats of science weapons after i use science perks? 60 dmg before perk, same after getting the perk...I expected 90 dmg, or is it just not shown in the weapon stats? thats just so annoying and weird
you can change it in settings in the menus. the perks do really help but unless you change the layout, you cant see how much it really does with your perks/skills
@@not_responding1264 oh shit you're right, thanks a lot! I'm still pissed at Obsidian though, why the fuck they decided to hide this in the first place?? its obviously always necessary to see how perks affect damage..
i had trouble with heavy ammo and idk why ive seen a vid where someone picked up 100+ at once and i seem to only get 20
When you can get the dead eye assault rifle asap because it's a sniper heavy weapon and amazing. You'll waste less shots thus more heavy weapon ammo than say using the grenade launcher. Also have a nice balance between heavy and light weapons.
Ammo is sometimes painfully common, my first build used melee and guns, often ran out of bullets, second build used a pistol, assault rifle and a sniper rifle, started selling bullets by the hundreds(sometimes thousands) to force myself to still take the combat somewhat seriously
@@anthonylongoria2638 Some pistols like the Ulti-Nature are ammo hogs, since they use the most expensive ammo (energy) in the game. One of the only remedies in the game is faction discounts over 50%.
There shoulda been a perk to add more quests
I stayed up all night playing The Puter World's, just got to third tier. I was disappointed with tier 2 and went back for more in tier 1.
Don't Go Dyin' On Me! is easily the best perk in the game if you're playing on Supernova difficulty. I just wish it came earlier on in the game.
Remember when perks actually meant something, not just tweaking one of your secondary skills by 10%?
I would like a dumbass, humor filled, ninja/samurai build. Could be a unique and interesting build that utilizes stealth, melee, etc.
TTD for lyffeeeee
Space Pirate build?
