Yeah it sucks but it makes total sense sadly: ever since blackwater most of Dutch's plan would be failures, most people in the camp started doubting Dutch's plans even though they never did before, Dutch started to see Micah as his most loyal guy because he never questionned him, the robbery in Saint Denis killed Hosea, and Dutch and him were the pioneers of the camp, Dutch was left alone to run a camp in which most people didn't believe in him anymore when he used to be the messiah. Also some folks say the hit on the head he received when they leave Saint Denis for the first time also caused him to go mad.
But I don't believe that much in Dutch loving Arthur and John and the others as sons and daughters. He felt more like a God whose followers weren't believing in him anymore. I realised this when he left his "sons" to die and started to call Eagle flies son too just to manipulate him.
"Son" is just a word, he didn't really mean it the way we thought, that wasn't a family, almost a cult for Dutch. Also why is it called Dutch Van der Linde gang if it was both Hosea and Dutch at the beginning? Because Dutch is an egocentric crazy psychopath manupilating his followers.

I only got sentenced about 4-6 times and most of that was in valentine at the beginning and i remember that Dutch breaking me out of jail twice was why i trusted him so much (spoiler beyond this point)

@Yan Terahn what? No Downes died because of his TB, Arthur only beated him a few times not nearly enough to kill him but probably knock a few teeth out or give Downes a black eye. The redemption arc is in the beginning Arthur was a bad man that was loyal to Dutch, but as time goes on he begins to question Dutch more and more leading to him separating his morals from his loyalty and whenever he got his diagnosis he put this plan into action. By the end he should have positive karma and he should’ve redeemed himself in the end to forgive himself for all that he did. That’s what RDR2 was about: bad people trying to gain their redemption.

Abigail's rescue is honestly underrated imo. It looks like that she's angry and just yelling at John, but actually it also serves a secondary purpose, and lulls the sheriff into a false sense of security, thinking she's just some angry housewife. That way she both gets to yell at John and pull off a flawless jailbreak all at the same time.
I wish it showed the women doing stuff like that more often. The game mentions Mary--Beth, Tilly and Abigail being thieves a few times but we never get to see it on-screen.
A thing is sure John is a dumbass but I think he and Abigail are a perfect match
They fight because life isn’t easy and because John’s way is about guns (that’s pretty low but it is what it is, It’s probably the only thing he’s amazing at) but ultimately they are capable of keeping a family together and still love each other to the very end so that’s really something.

I mean, you're correct in saying you don't see them do much directly but you do get to see them having fun while out on the town finding ways to grift people. You definitely get a feel for their personalities and their love of thieving.

I love how John gets out, no questions or problems asked, but Arthur has maybe 3 instances where he's wanted afterwards. As opposed to how John got out of jail in RDR1, which was simply waiting for several days
Well, to be honest, in most cases, Arthur bets broken out spectacularly. Look at the clips where Arthur is wanted as soon as he gets out of Jail. It's either because his gang blastes a wall, or threatened the deputies by holding them at gunpoint. Compare it to when Hosea walks in with his booze, or when Dutch actually deals with the deputies amicably, you aren't immediately wanted afterwards
John's prison breaks scenes are usually much more subtle. In the first one, Abigail breaks him out after rendering the deputy unconsious, in another case, he steals the keys from a sleeping deputy, and in the last clips, he just bribes the policeman to release him quietly. That's why John has more scenes where he gets out ''no questions asked'' it's the method of getting out. I'm sure that if Charles and/Or Sadie broke John out the same way the gang did for Arthur, John would also immediately get a wanted level as soon as he got out.

I love how for Arthur they show John, Charles, Dutch and Hosea will go to extreme and far places for Arthur, but for Micah, Arthur had to go basically being obligated to do so.
The last one with Hosea hit me in the feels. He would do anything for his gang.

He was also suffering from a concussion from when they crashed the tram in that mission before Guarma. He was suffering with that all the way to the end of the game Chapter 5 onward
Ignore the fact that my name is dutch, anyway... he knew Arthur for years and MICAH for a few MONTHS, really Dutch you should have been better then that
Dutch isn't a bad person. He just had a mental break because of the head injury he had after the trolley went off the tracks (the mission when Arthur, Dutch and Lenny rob the Post Office in S. Denis).
Just after that exact mission, Dutch starts to doubt everyone's faith and starts to dislike Arthur.
THAT is why he chose Micah over Arthur - a head injury (mental breakdown, insanity), nothing more to it.
3:17 John is so intimidating in this scene. Something about how silent and efficient he is makes me feel like I would be shitting myself if I was that deputy.

But she demonstrates her resourcefulness and loyalty to her husband by breaking him out. Arthur was right, she IS a good woman. 100% understand why he was jealous of John, the lucky bastard

Afterthought: Though we all felt cheated at the end of RDR 1 when John did what he felt like he truly needed to do at the end of his game. After playing RDR 2 you understand why he did what he did.
It truly was relentless and it wouldn't stop as long as there was 1 single enforcer left of the Van Der Linde gang, and he knew that. At the time we all felt different, but with the context the prequel gives. It's (debatably) understandable

@@bruh-mx2hf Ummm I wouldn't go as far as to say Dutch was a good guy (killing a young woman in cold blood for almost no reason in the Blackwater massacre). None of them were with a very few exceptions like Jack and Mary-Beth. Also, just like Dutch said, he has known Arthur for 20 years but after Guarma keeps rejecting or flat out ignoring for a rat he has known for about 6 to 7 months. Wanted for John to die in jail and abandoning him to die during their last train robbery after he got shot. Also doesn't care about Abigail being kidnapped. If any of this ain't betrayal from Dutch, I don't know what is.
