    Really helpful video. Two questions: what would you do if there WAS a large tap root. And should you always wait to spring to repot.?

    • @thebaldcrafter
      @thebaldcrafter Před 3 lety +1

      Cut it. Tap root is not that much useful in the case of bonsai. In the case of trees growing in the ground it digs deep to get much needed moisture and also to anchor the tree to the ground to prevent it from falling over. For the repotting late winter is more ideal actually, when the tree is almost coming out of its dormant state. It will have enough time to be ready for active growth in the spring. Hope this helps.

    • @meatsandwich7552
      @meatsandwich7552 Před 3 lety

      It drops to low 30s here in AZ, and mine do fine. You can also bring it under your patio if need be to protect it from frost. The color changes on the foliage, but that is natural. I freaked out thw first time that happened

      @@meatsandwich7552 Thank you. I’m in Cincinnati, and it’s dips down to the teens, I bring it in to the garage when it hits the freezing temps. I’ve pretty much decided that one it goes below 40* it’s garage time for the night. Thank you for the feedback.👍🏻

    Hey Jason! Love your videos and wisdom. Thank you for all of it. How long did this juniper grow inside the nursery pot? I pruned and wired my first tree (procumbens nana) last year. I noticed some new buds forming already! I still want to thicken the trunk considerably. Should I repot it into something as large as a 5 gallon? It is currently in a 1 gallon.

      I don't know if you're still looking for an answer but generally its a good idea to gradually pot them up in increments, without ever letting them get root-bound

    When is the best time of the year to re pot junipers. I live in zone 3b.?

  • @flowerdoodle2438
    @flowerdoodle2438 Před 3 lety

    Are the anchor wires really necessary? Seems a tree once potted into a bonsai pot stays well put without doing this step.

    Any reason why u don't spray root ball or dunk it in water as a way to clean root ball, instead of tearing roots?

    • @bonsaipiper3773
      @bonsaipiper3773 Před 3 lety

      He doesn't want to complete bare root it. It could damage the tree. The tree as so many roots the work he did did not harm the roots, because the tree as so many.
