Just wanted to take a minute and let you know there are a lot of people just like me who really appreciate the time and information you took to put into this training video. Thank you. - Todd
Hi Todd, Thanks for the kind comments! Glad the video was helpful. - Jason
I am definitely one of those people! I've been neglecting my bonsai tree and I know it needs a repotting and after seeing this video I'm a lot less intimidated and a lot more educated!
Thanks Todd.
I have always admired the Art of Bonsai after I traveled to Japan and saw a showing of bonsai trees at a tree festival. Just amazing how long some of those trees have been alive. Some over 100 years old with family members keeping them alive and thriving. I have a few mini crepe myrtles that I have potted and had for 16 years in the same pot and I'm afraid of putting them in a smaller pot for fear of hurting the tree. Have you any experience in crepe myrtles? Thanks and wonderful video and such a beautiful result! Fabulous!
Thank you for showing us this
Would really like to see a 5 year update on this tree.
He lives in Texas so it had to burn.
I'm trying to learn about bonsais because I just bought myself a 4-year-old juniper bonsai. I'd like to know how to take care of it and I've been trying to watch different videos but they've all been so hard to pay attention to because everyone that I watched is so monotony and hard to pay attention too but I wanted you to know that I'm really excited to have found your channel because you're not monotony and much easier to follow. I'm excited to see your other videos. Hopefully one of them will be good at explaining how to take care of a baby bonsai. Anyways thanks for being awesome!!
It came out okay? No! It came out brilliantly. You are by far the greatest teacher and bonsai cultivater on CZcams. Thank you for this amazing video.

one thing I love about the youtube bonsai community is that every video is 20 minutes for absolutely no reason lol
Learn patience.

Wow! THE best demonstration of repotting bonsai. You not only showed us, you explained the “why” as you demonstrated. Thanks so much. Please give us more. Is quickly subscribed as your videos provide in red knowledge even for beginners. THANKS!
Thanks! I'm getting tools and soil soon and I feel a lot more confident now that I'll do the job right.
How is it
I understand your explanation of the front of the tree and intended styling, I just think that it looks amazing from all sides, so healthy.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful bonsai trees, hopefully they will be taken care of . People don't realize the time and effort that goes into just one tree . I pray 🙏they are returned in good condition but will keep an eye out for them .
Absolutely perfect bonsai video. Way to go Jason. I'd like to get a tree like this one.
I love your videos! They're so helpful and informative!
Thank you for posting how to take care of the roots before potting as well as which tools to use. Great beginner video, thank you!
The narration and the details was top notch… Thanks for doing this and the detailed information on why.
Excellent presentation. Since I'm new to Bonsai, you answered a dozen questions that saved me time researching myself. Thanks for doing the video...Jeff
I purchased a lifelike ceramic bonsai tree four years ago. I will be buying a live bonsai tree this year. I will be watching more of your great tutorials. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Neonia, Thanks for the kind comments. Glad you like the videos! - Jason
Most clear cut and comprehensive tutorial on repotting 👍
Been practicing bonsai under Roy Nagatoshi for 3 years and this guy gives a good presentation on how to repot. Just keep in mind it takes a long time to properly pack on the soil.

He says "or you could loose the tree" a lot ! Now I'm kinda scared to repot 😨
This channel has the best video I've found though. I love how he clearly explain each step and why he does what he does this way etc.
Nice work and thank you for all the great information.
Awesome !!! I appreciate your work and dedication !!!
Your a good Teacher ,thans for your classes and a lot of idees that you are showing me !
Where you buy the products like the accademia and lava ?
Loved the video. I wondered what the tree is that you are re-potting and where you would purchase one. Also, the lava rock as I have not come across it before. Thank you.

One billion loves for this GREAT tutorial.
Love your work. Can you recommend a good book to learn bonsai?
Great video! I bought a bonsai tree that looks like it should've been repotted a while ago. It has thick roots encircling the main trunk. They are the same color as the trunk. Can I cut those thick roots and just leave the main trunk. There also is a quite thick one growing over the side of the pot. I would appreciate any help. Thank you!
How many times would you fertilise the tree as there is know homus in the soil. Thanks great vid.
is it ok to repot a boxwood in july. i can see the root growing out.
🎉easy to remember explained so much better thanks jason
Thanks again for these terrific videos, Jason. What are some reliable sources for good bonsai tools?
U r awesome. I have learned so much from you. We r getting ready to order two indoor trees..what would you recommend for full time indoor trees
This is beautiful sir jason, God bless you

Can you do a video on bonsai soil? Like what repotting soil we should use and why, what nursery soil we can use...
That is a really beautiful bonsai.
Thanks for the lesson. Is there a specific time of the year that one should or should not repot?
Great video!! I love the bonsai btw, it's so beautiful and full. I have a dwarf ficus b. and it's very tiny. I actually had to snip some of the leaves off because of mildew and now it's looks so naked, so hopefully it will look just as good as the bonsai in this video. I have a question though about repotting: Can I repot my bonsai so it will grow bigger now, or is it best to wait till the appropriate season?
that looks really good like a small tree should
What a beautiful tree!.
He made it look really nice 👍🏽
I just impulse bought a Nana Juniper bonsai and freaked out a bit about how to take care of it. This video makes me feel like this will be much more fun and doable than I thought. Thank you!
Beautiful bonsai tree and planter.
Your videos are super awesome. Thanks for sharing
Hey Jason, thank you so much for this precious tutorial! Just a question please, can that soil combination be used for a zelkova or elm too? 😊
Generally speaking, deciduous trees prefer less sand/grit & more loam than, say, junipers & pines
Insane! I would never have know how tough you can treat a plant like that
Great video for a procumbens, if I may ask what state/ zone are you located? Looks like this work was done in spring, but spring in Florida is much hotter than other states.
Thanks for this video! Super helpful!
One question:
Do you remove the wires that secure the tree after some time, or just when you repot it again?
just when repotted. Those wires create a base anchor
more videos jason xD awesome tree... how many trees you have by your self?
Yea, thank you for making the video! I do appreciate it.
Excellent tutorial THANK YOU!
great video, I hope you do more like this. I have a question as im new to bonsai, if im un able to get lava rock and pumice for the soil is it ok to just use premade bonsai soil from a nursery?
bonsaiman101 Yes, premade bonsai soil is fine. Just make sure you have the 3 components, drainage, aeration, and water retention. Thanks for watching.
Very good, what is the repotted tree like now
ur really good with the bonsai,s thanks for sharing ur knowlodge
instead of lava rock for the base coverage, could i use some topping pebbles for drainage?
Great video! Thanks for the help!
Please tell me whether the wire used should be insulated of some short or is it OK to use regular wire....??
I want to know if there is any effect on the plant
If you are starting with a tree you bought from a nursery (like what you had in your wiring a branch video) do you need to only focus on one activity at a time or can you do it all at once? I was curious if pruning, wiring, and shaping the tree then repotting it into a bonsai pot at the same time would shock the tree too much and more easily lead to it dying.
Can you please add the links to the lava rocks that you used for drainage as well as the soil?
Can you do the same root pruning plus wiring during summer on procumbean nanas?
When do you take out the wire?
Also, if you leave the original soil on the tree like you did, how/when are you supposed to comb the roots radially? Is it not a good idea to bare root the tree when you take it out of its nursery pot?
Hi I was wondering do you thighten the wires in a x pattern are all on the same sides. Great material on repotting bonsai trees.
Do you have a now picture of that? And how much is it!
My trees are in development when its the best time to prune for ramiification?
please make a video about pruning !!
Very beautiful
For the Lava Rock you put at the bottom, is that small sized or medium?
Thank you for the detailed video.
I have read that junipers should never have more than 1/3rd of their root structure pruned at any one time. Would you concur with this, and if so, why did you do more than that in this case? Thanks for your time!
Well done, very informative.
Hello, can I transplanting juniper by this method in early May?
I have a question for you. I bought a bonsai from a nursery in a nice pot the bonsai is well established and a good size now. Will I need to ever repot this bonsai I would like to keep it about the size it is now thank you
Do you. Have a video when you wired this specific tree ? Because by looking at the soil at the beginning of the video it was a. nursery bush, and second question is , after reporting do you leave the tree in the shade or straight sun, thanks
Can you report at any time of the year? I own a juniper and live in Texas.
Hello sir I do have a question so after that you water every day?
Very good instruction. Thank you very much.
