This video was one of the most helpful videos I've seen so far in making me understand what I'm looking for starting off with a new tree. Thank you so much!
Jason, i am half japanese, and feel like this subject is culturally relavent to my life, and is so much fun. i am not an artistic person, and your commentary is soooo helpful. i really appreciate all your videos, as they are my sole source of training for now. Arigatou gozaimasu - ありがとう ございます
Your videos are just great Jason. Not only do they show how to trim but for how and why ... not for the immediate and present time but for what you anticipate or hope for later in time.
I love you man! You explain everything perfect! Their are lots of bonsai you tubers and masters out there and they are good but you have to be one of the best instructors! Thanks for the help!
This is like watching Bob Ross paint a gorgeous landscape. So fun to watch and I just have to try. Even though I know the only result will be my appreciation for what you just did, and a pile of you know what in my own hands! thanks for the video so I can see your work
Just ordered a young Rock juniper, I don't know what was calling me to order a bonsai tree but I'm glad I found your company. Can't wait to get it and learn more.
I'm trying to see if you can grow this Juniper Bonsai indoors, I'm loving the energy y looks this plant is giving me. Most videos are saying they need to be outdoors. Please, if someone has one indoors y it's doing well, let me know... GARCIAS!
Very well presented. Really enjoy your presentations and discussions on what you are showing/tutoring on, and the various options going forward. Thank you.
I've always loved bonsai, and have wanted to give it a try... You make it look easy, and provide great insight into the structure of the tree. Thanks... I'm going to watch move of your videos for sure!
This tree was getting soooo wired. With that said, thank you so much, amazing and very useful info. I am trying to recreate the same exact effect with a brand new juniper I just bought and since we are not applying wire... I'll probably wire it too. Hopefully I won't kill it.... So here we go!
🌴🌳👍🐨 sometimes I use wire as a tie-down. a loop from a branch to branch. to see how it is going .then if ok I wire the branches. save time . and can adjust easy as you go. Keith Australia
This tree was made using the same strategy as making an espalier, except for the apex design. Good simple method for beginners. Juniper makes my fingers bleed, so sharp.
First thank you for the video. Very well thought out and executed. I am brand new to this hobby. Everyone seems to agree that potting soil is out. No matter the pot or size of the tree. But I have to ask why is the small trees from the large lumber stores and greenhouses and other places, always come in potting soil and doing very well? Including the tree in your video. It seems to me that at least a mix of potting soil might help to accumulate the tree during repotting, or the shock of first pruning. But really these pine trees grow fine in regular soil, so what makes shaping into a bonsi cause them to not be able to use miracle grow soil and fertilizer for that matter? Thank you!
Nice clear instructions thank you for the inspiration. Dude just a little bit of feedback, when you’re asking us to look at a particular part of the plant you continue to stare down the camera which causes me to feel distracted. My suggestion is you look where you want us to look.
Seems to differ by country. In UK the first think we’d do is rake out the roots to find trunk and main roots of tree . This seems a VERY Japanese way of working. All ends up with a beautiful little tree 🌲 😃
Uggg lol don't feel comfortable cutting all these branches lol. I have ordered a pretty extensive book and plan on doing a research. These videos will help as well.
THANK YOU!!! I bought a juniper that shape errrr almost like the one in this video. I trimmed it wrong and straight to wiring it and RIP 😔😫😁 I bought another juniper and been sitting on my ‘bonsai’ work table for days, trauma! Can i ask your advice by sending the picture by email please???🙏🏼
Hey there Jason! Loving the channel! I'm super new to this but had a quick question about pruning conifers. Branches that are still pretty new and green, should I be cutting those off and keeping only the "barky" branches?
I have a nursery juniper that has a nice trunk n the goes up n sweeps to one side. Do you or anyone have any suggestions. Not sure how to approach this. Thank you for your videos
Hello! I’m looking at eastern leafs website because I’d like to buy a tree, would the tree in this video be classified as a small, medium, or large juniper?
I gasped when he cut that branch off! I'm new to bonsai so I am too scared to really cut back that far. How do you gauge what is "too far"? Obviously the tree still needs foliage for photorespiration, but how do you know that you've got enough left? Besides the obvious answer: it dies.
I gasped too! That was so much foliage gone! My bonsai has had very minimal pruning. I love watching him grow on his own. I took him to a bonsai expert to teach me how to repot him and he just kept saying how healthy and beautiful he was! I was so proud. I’m too scared to chop a branch off
I am growing my 1st Japanese Black Pine Bonsai Tree and Honestly I am scared that I might mess my Bonsai Tree up with not knowing which branches to clip and where to clip very much like Daniel-san in The Original The Karate Kid was when he was afraid that he would mess up Mr. Miyagi's Bonsai Trees. I just remember that Mr. Miyagi told Daniel-san, "Close eyes. Make picture of perfect Bonsai. Open eyes. Make Bonsai like picture. I know that it sounds like a cliche... but I am scared that I might ruin my Bonsai when it grows
This could have been a great video. Unfortunately I felt as if you were driven by a pack of wolves. Obviously you knew what you were doing. However, stating the video be for beginners, there was a lot of getting rid of „this one“ and the next second some little branch flew off. Which one? You may have seen it from your perspective, but the viewer didn‘t. Please don‘t misunderstand me, I enjoy your videos! Take it as constructive criticism. This one was just a bit too fast and not always clear to visually understand / grasp your moves.
Beginners pay attention this video is full of bonsai gold and will save you trial and error

You are an artist and have a gift for educating. Loved the segment at the end, when the producers let you off the leash, to go ahead with the wiring!
Your videos are just great Jason. Not only do they show how to trim but for how and why ... not for the immediate and present time but for what you anticipate or hope for later in time.
Ha ha I knew you were going to wire the tree. You could tell you were itching to do so all the way through. Great content as always.
Can you do a videos of , """Does and Don'ts"""" for Junipers. Specially the most common ones!
Thanks man.
Did he ever make a video on this??
I love you man! You explain everything perfect! Their are lots of bonsai you tubers and masters out there and they are good but you have to be one of the best instructors! Thanks for the help!

Just got started with bonsai and came across your channel. Super, super helpful!
If you haven’t already found it , take a look at Herons Bonsai. Here in UK 🇬🇧. Run by Peter Chan .... he a legend!

I knew, as did many others i'm sure, that little tree was getting wired... ; )
Looks great, nicely done as usual.
This was a great illustration of using clip only to style, as well as “ why “ we use wire.
Very well presented. Really enjoy your presentations and discussions on what you are showing/tutoring on, and the various options going forward. Thank you.

Love this video, very simplistic, I struggle with cutting branches for a nice Bonsai look. Thanks again
This video was too good for biggners Thanks a million
Cool demo! That sort of Y-bend has scared me off of plenty of nursery material
Thank you. I want to trim my tree and go natural with no wires. This is a fantastic tutorial.

Loved what you done with this little tree , in the end I thought if he keeps trimming this thing we are going to be having a cactus lol.
LOL Might have known you'd wire....hello from San Diego💃

So inspiring at the end. Cant wait for next week's video!
Thanks. Very helpful explanation of the principles

New drinking game: take a shot every time he says “wire.”
I think I did a pretty good job on my gold lace juniper. At which point do I transplant to Bonsai pot? Fantastic video.
great.

Another solid reason to eliminate "pocket branches": in nature they generally die out, you will rarely see a branch in that position in a mature tree.
If it weren’t for the lucid tutelage this would’ve been a magic trick.
Hey there Jason! Loving the channel! I'm super new to this but had a quick question about pruning conifers. Branches that are still pretty new and green, should I be cutting those off and keeping only the "barky" branches?
I like it
Who thinks the plant looks just like a ready made bonsai already....without even touching it😃
hello make a bonsai video on
Oriental Arbor-vitae

Was this nursery tree trained at all before this? Looks like an old cut near the first bend.
from Philippines
Wonder if he's gonna apply wire....
Hello can we repot the juniper chinensis now ,the temperature minimum is 17 and Max is 32 degrees
Wondelful😍😍
I have a nursery juniper that has a nice trunk n the goes up n sweeps to one side. Do you or anyone have any suggestions. Not sure how to approach this. Thank you for your videos

Me you swindled me!!
You cut the important branches, if thats my training plant im not gonna cut the branches, i can do a semi cascade bonsai
What time of year was this done?
ah shiii, i messed up....we got to go bald😂
Hi I bought a bonsai from your online store and I want to know if I have to repotting my tree.
Danielson, wire tree.
It looks like you cut off many/most of the growing tips. Is the tree still viable? Mine turned brown after doing this.

Do you sell junipers like this on your website? Hello from Kentucky
what is name of that tree sir?
I am growing my 1st Japanese Black Pine Bonsai Tree and Honestly I am scared that I might mess my Bonsai Tree up with not knowing which branches to clip and where to clip very much like Daniel-san in The Original The Karate Kid was when he was afraid that he would mess up Mr. Miyagi's Bonsai Trees.

Must....wire...can't..resist.
Mantap bosku keren mantap
See I didn't use wire! You happy!
Call me crazy, but the back makes a better front
noce bro
You should never trim a bonsai tree by pulling branches off with your fingers. Always use very sharp scissors/pruning sheers.
Camara not close enough
did you guys know he didn't use wire in the video?
Remind me what didn't you do?
WIRE
He could of twisted and put more movement on the top half. why would you leave a long neck like that.
Amz
you know hes foaming at the mouth for wire
