An electronic fence would be much better for your dog. He would have more freedom to romp around the yard and get the exercise that he needs. You can install an electric fence for a reasonable price. I bought mine at Home Depot. It is the best thing I did and it was easy to train my dog. He loves running around his yard and gets lots exercise to keep him fit.
Had one growing up and our husky still got out of it… I don’t trust it One day when we buy a house I’ll make sure to add a fence… for now this is what we got
Electronic fence is very expensive and won't stop strong willed dogs. My neighbor dog obeyed when younger but ignores it when he feels like it for any reason.
Please fence in your yard No dog should be tied up. He needs to run, explore yard. Good for both baby and fur baby..Also adds protection from someone trying to come through your back door,so safety feature for family. An upgrade for selling house if you ever move.
Also funny you think he explores out there He doesn’t even walk around the yard He hates being out there alone He goes out to pee and poop and then wants to come back in. So relax he’s fine! He gets daily walks
Is a fence not a better idea for him? The idea of a dog getting attached to a rope is not great for me. I have 4 bernese mountain dogs and they all run free.
Please don't use the chain in the ground. I had a dog when I was a kid that died when using it. It got tangled they are very dangerous. A teether is a little better not much. Get a fence or electric fence so the dog can actually enjoy the yard. He is a larger breed and needs a lot of exercise.
Benny is a gorgeous Bern and I do understand about him wanting to be with you all the time but you are extremely defensive when anyone criticises the tether. Here in the UK we wouldn’t see something like that in a private garden, only in a public place (on a picnic for example). Perhaps some of the comments hit a nerve and you would really like to be able to put up a fence but you can’t, personally I wouldn’t have chosen a garden like yours because of the lack of freedom for Benny but he’s your dog and your responsibility. We lost our beloved Bern last year, please give Benny a big hug from me 🐾
Because I’ve gotten 100s of comments about the dumb leash lol They act like I’m torturing my dog … I guess I should’ve left him with an apartment patio… We didnt buy this house we aren’t allowed to put a fence up We also won’t live here for long
He's fine. I have this breed of dog. She has an acre fenced in area on my property but rarely stays outside more than ten minutes. She's a huge pest 😂 only wants to be by my side or sitting on the sofa or laying in my bed. I used to try to coax her out but when she got to a year old and too heavy to budge, I just gave up and let her be inside with me. She's happiest inside with the 2 cats. She's 3 in May and definitely lives by her own rules. This breed is not that active. 🐕👍😘
That's awesome but are you tired of untangling puppets from the patio furniture yet? 😆 I agree with the electric fence suggestion. Less stressful for you, pup and toddlers. The collar doesn't hurt them it just feels strange enough that they won't like to challenge it. Pup will learn their boundaries fast and you won't have to worry about him chasing something, ripping the post out of the ground (which he will) and taking everything he's wrapped around with him on his adventure, lol. Serious
My huskys growing up rain away with an electric fence lol So I don’t trust it Plus he doesn’t enjoy being out there by himself anyways.. he goes out to pee or poop and comes back
My daughter when young tethered our Berner to a wheel barrow. He took off down the garden at great pace towing this thing. By the time I got out there to see what the rumpus was about, the only thing the steel wheel barrow was good for was scrap!!!! Lol
You can actually use that same cord as an Arial lead from your door to a tree thus eliminating the concern for tripping over or tangling of a ground lead. It also gives the dog so much more freedom. We have used the Arial system for more the 35 years. Everyone was happy 😊
Would you chain up your child?.. he’s been your furbaby, I find this very upsetting not to mention the length of that, well someone is going to get hurt, Benny or baby.. I was excited to see Benny have a wonderful yard to lay in with baby, not a chain for him, terrible 😞
It's great he gets to be outside. However, how's he going to get running exercise. Just because you have a longgggg wire doesn't mean any exercise. I know you mean well, but picture yourself wearing it. There must be an inexpensive fence to put up. Please don't leave him in that manner. Dogs love to run.
Gosh, that's interesting. I've never heard of a dog or even a cat that doesn’t like to run. How does a dog know the length of any leash? It's intimidating. I'm sorry you are taking my comments in the wrong way. It wasn't meant to be like that. It's no freedom that bothers me. Not free to do what it wants to........
The leash is for quick poops and pees in the morning and at night. He wants to come back in right after he’s done He does get off leash time when we’re out with him. He’s also on a harness And goes on walks every day
I bet 5 bucks you dont spent 5 minutes out there actually interacting with the dog in the poop filled yard. This video was a waste of my time. You just showed a chain for 3 minutes
Nice, but there's no substitute for walking your dog. They consider it their work and when you don't walk them, they are missing a big part of their purpose.
@@BennyBerner Glad to know you do. Unfortunately, my neighbors who fenced in their yard for the dog considered that the end of their responsibility, so my apologies for being biased.
I am sure Benny loves the back yard. I had to do the same thing as you with the tether. Finally had a fence put up this past summer although I have to say that it might have been unnecessary. My berners did not leave the area around the deck!! Your nay sayers really do not know Berners.

Yeah a lot of times if we’re out there we let him walk around off leash. But if he’s going out to poop quick we hook him up so I don’t have to stand there waiting for him
