When you were four you reached the height of that big, red, rock; but you didn't stop there and now you have climbed so high that rock is out of view. It’s hard to leave a sport or job that your worked at for so long, but there’s comes a time for that chapter to end and another one to begin. I really love your EP, it’s just very artistic in expression and very well composed. My favorite music is when it makes you feel things, and this for sure hits me hard! whitney. i have been watching you for years. i aspired to be you as a gymnast. i have been doing gymnastics for 10 years, and this is my last season. this EP, mental gymnastics, i felt was made for me. this song in specific, favorite failure, i can’t stop thinking about. every time i listen to it, i want to cry, same with “Drown.” Drown is so beautiful. but this song. the lyrics. they touch me in a way, they touch my heart, and it bring me to tears. thank you for this beautiful, collection. it’s so scary. i’m so scared of what life is going to be like without gymnastics. it’s all i’ve ever done. i genuinely hope you see this. i feel like you would be THE person to talk to.
I am so happy you connect to the ep 🥲. I wrote it when i was in your same position. I will say that now that it’s been almost a year, i’ve learned that there is so much more to life then the sport. I couldn’t even imagine what life would look like without gymnastics, but it all worked out fine. Just know that everything happens for a reason and one day you’ll look back and realize you don’t need to stress about it. Just focus on every day as it comes. Stop thinking about the future because you’ll figure it out when the time comes! Enjoy every last moment this season! You got this ❤️❤️🫶

You achieved at a high degree and overcame so many injuries to progress towards the elite level you so much desired, and you brought so many people along with you to see what it takes to succeed that I feel honored to have witnessed your journey ! I can't imagine the inner turmoil that you dealt with as you decided to choose a new path so different from what had consumed your life up until that moment of realization ! I think a lot of us who were talented in some way at a young age have this feeling of failure when things don't turn out how they are "supposed to". Whether it's sports, academics, music, or whatever, we feel like there are expectations from everyone, including ourselves. And if things stop us from meeting those expectations, it's hard to accept. It can feel like quitting to realize that you'd rather go down a different path than the one you're on. But people change, especially when you're young. This is the time to explore new things, gain new experiences, and learn as much as you can. Years from now, you may find that you want to pursue art or dance or any number of other things. But one thing I can guarantee you is that no matter what you do in your life, the Little Whitney in your song is for sure proud of you.
Really great and vulnerable song, Whitney. You have made her proud and now you are onto your next journey in life!! I know in my senior year I decided to quit playing trumpet and I had been doing it since I was 9 years old. I definitely felt like a failure, but it was time to move onto other things.
Whitney, maybe you should post a vlog where you explain the context of all the brilliant and beautiful songs you have recently published (songs from the EP). So many people seem to think that you are sad and depressed because they don't know that you wrote these songs before you quit gymnastics (or during the process of quitting). I love all these songs and would love to have people understand the context and that you are fine!

Maybe Whitney Now hasn't "failed" Whitney Then - maybe Whitney Then "failed" to accurately predict who Whitney Now was going to be. They both deserve respect and compassion. Think "growth," not "failure." Not only is it OK to renegotiate with yourself as you go through life, it's kind of nuts NOT to. The literal strength and flexibility you've worked so hard for are also metaphorical - never be afraid to use them. (Same applies to your voice. Hopefully the time and effort you put into learrning to use your own, unique literal voice is also helping you learn to use your equally-unique metaphorical voice.) The late, great philosopher George Michael sums it up well in "Freedom! '90." Another late, great philosopher, Tom Petty, puts forth some good arguments in "Time To Move On." (I'm particularly fond of his 1994 Bridge School Benefit performance.) To paraphrase: if today the way you play the game is not the same and there's someone else you've got to be, others may give you flack for changing your mind, but you don't belong to them. Also, what lies ahead we have no way of knowing. Always be your own protector.

Gymnastics is one of the VERY FEW sports that favour the shorter person….otherwise short people would be the ones singing/feeling like this song….I am short, grew up being very competitive in most sports but got overtaken when height became a factor. It’s a rough gig.
