Am I gonna do this at 3am in the morning due to my lack of rational decision making and extreme boredom from the fact that It's quarantine??? I sure am...
Did you ever do it haha? I’m lowkey thinking about doing this too but I’m not so sure 😂
omg me too sis, did you do it?
just did it
Pauline Lamadrid does it look good?
Pauline Lamadrid THE INTERNET WANTS TO SEE THE RESULTS
AINT NO ONE CAN CAN STOP ME FROM A MULLET AT HOME
Absolutely hope it works out for you
Did you? I'm 100% doing this this week!
@@bevishhh did you do it yet?? it's my first day of break and i'm gonna do this today lmao
@@sappy5143 I did! Like 2 days ago butttt I've been having real trouble with muscle fatigue at the moment. So after watching a bunch of different videos and previously doing the Brad Mondo four pigtail cut I decided to hack this tutorial and do two pigtails at the 90° angle to the face. Like right over my eyes basically 😅 and then point cut those to a long fringe length. (I think I cut the fringe first as a marker) If you try it this way I recommend checking out Brad's tutorial for the DIY cut because it explains the pigtails. But yeah it turned out so cute and my curls have all bounced up I love it!
@@bevishhh sounds cute! i didn't really follow any tutorials, kinda just winged it! my hair is supposed to be naturally straight but when i cut it it became pretty wavy and looked heat-styled. i'm not sure why, but it really fits my cut. also my sister said i looked like the aunt from the movie Big Hero 6...
just did this haircut on myself with no haircutting experience, thought i was messing it up the whole time. ended up being my favorite haircut I have ever had!! it really pulls together in the end. thank you so much for the best instructional video. :)
Wow Nadia that is fantastic to hear I’m so pleased it worked out for you 😁👍🏻
So you’re saying keep going
It looks like it’s a more professional version of the unicorn self-cut. Am I right?
Do you cut straight?? Or at an angle??
@@otaku604 45 degree angle :)
thank you for singlehandedly saving the girls, gays, and theys, your work is very appreciated
Thank you very much Chloe! thank you for your comment also much appreciated
Literally lol
the whole gang is here! 😂🧡
i have now been caught, HAHA- they/them
hey just wanted to let you know that as a nonbinary person, not every enby goes by they/them. Some go by he/him, she/her, it/its, and neo pronouns. Its preferred that us refer to us as enbies or people. have a great day :)
I did this at 3am as well, about a month ago. This is THE haircut for my face. I would have worn it like this all of my life if I had known about it, but I'm still happy to have found my cut at 60 years old. Thank you for the excellent tutorial.
Oh fantastic Renee glad it has been a revelation to you
Its never too late ig
I love knowing that at 60 i will mostly likely still be impulsively cutting my own hair at 3am
I hope I’m like you at 60
i hope im rocking this look at 60. just thinking about it makes me really happy :D
I have spent so many hours on youtube watching useless videos of how to do this and other layered haircuts. YOU are the 1st person who is actually showing the details of what you're doing, and making it possible to replicate. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! If there's any way you can indicate that your videos are different from all the others (EASY TO FOLLOW DIY), you'll be making a lot more people happy and saving them time. If I could give you 100 thumbs up, I would! Good luck to you!.
Ah that’s a fantastic comment Debbie thank you very much 😁👍🏻
I agree!!!!
Same absolutely made it all make sense. Thanks
Or you could just do it the brad mondo way and put a ponytail on to of your head and start hacking 😳😬😉😂
I’ve been cutting hair for more than 50 years. I love that you’re doing cuts that I did back in the day!
Yes William such a great haircut totally timeless

Ha ha, me too. Only, this is such a better method. Wow!!
This is a fabulous haircut!! Can't request in the salon, no one has a clue how to do this. They end up butchering your hair...😢 true story. Then get insulted if you ask if they would watch a video...
Yes I agree,I've even printed out pictures to be very specific and they still don't get it. In my experience they always give me a long bob which is not the same thing 🥴🙄✌
@@bananasinpajamas9499 and it's sooo simple💇♀️🤷♀️
Ooopppp to think I was gonna go to a salon for this!

omg i just did this to myself and it turned out so cute. i had a straight cut shoulder length before and my hair gets wavy when its short so this turned out really cute on my hair. i cut the bangs shorter in the front and it made it look more mullety. at first i was so scared it was bad because i had thick hair but when my hair dried(i cut it wet) it turned out nice! thanks for this tutorial omg one of the cutest/most unique haircuts i ever had.
Absolutely wonderful so pleased Angelica that this worked out for you
What's your instagram? I need to see this!
Please show us your instagram, i need to see that
my hair is super thick, curly, and the same length as yours...should I do it? is it worth it? and can you put your hair up?
@@emiiicy198 yes you can, and i do it myself, it looks so pretty
I bit the bullet and attempted this due to the 'quarantine stir-crazy Britney head-shave' drive that people seem to be experiencing currently.
Oh my gosh, did it come out so nice! I genuinely love it so much, and what a great teacher you are. Be back to watch more videos later, too busy swishing my new hair around in the mirror atm.
Wonderful Adrienne, thank you very much for letting me know ✌🏻😁
The day after I watched this a girl came into the salon and asked me for this haircut and I was SO glad I had watched this video ! It was so easy and she LOVED it and it looked awesome !! Thank you James
Ah that is absolutely fantastic I love reading these kind of comments so pleased it worked out well for you
A shag cut is good for girls with wavy and curly hair. Just got a shag cut last week and my waves have been Poppin 👌🤗
Yes it's back in a big way and most models have wavy / curly hair worn naturally dried . Great cut and you can pull it up at the gym or beach
Shag is being requested alot these days so this was perfect! Thanks James
yes it differently coming back into fashion, glad you enjoyed it.
Does this cut work well on thick hair?
James, you're a lifesaver! My daughter is desperate for me to cut her hair and I'm terrified to do it and have been watching endless videos until I hit upon yours....you've made it so easy to follow that I have every confidence now and can't wait to get on it tomorrow morning!! Thank you so much!
Wonderful Julie so pleased that I was of some assistance to you in cutting your daughters hair hope it went well
Love love love. The 70s and 80s are back 🖤
Yes absolutely time to rock those retro vibes 😁👍🏻
Did they go away?
Yay!!
I love it. The Shag is one of my favorite cuts. Everyone looks good in it. I wish your model was a human although I love that you styled the finished product.
Super, In one of my forthcoming videos I do actually have it on a human that will be in a few weeks time. 👍🏻
@@TheLifeOfHair yes, thank you for giving us the time to see the finished style, as many videos just show the how, and not the what.
I just did this to my hair! I am enjoying the final result and there’s a tiktok on my channel of the results, but not the process!
Are wonderful so pleased that it went well for you is your TikTok the same as your name on here?
give us your iddd we want to see it ! also it has been a while, how does it look once it's grown out ?
What’s your TikTok name :)
I gave up on hairdressers cause they couldn't do this cut. My hair is waist length now but I want to give it a go again haha
Well I’m sorry to hear that you’ve given up on hairdressers because they couldn’t do his haircut river but maybe just maybe it might be worth showing them this tutorial prior to having your haircut at some point and that way you will hopefully get what you want
The hair dresser you need is someone who has been cutting hair a LONG time...(like 30+ years). This type of haircut isn't specifically taught in schools, any longer. It wasn't when I went, back in '07. However, my first salon was an "old school" salon where this was cut, A LOT (although not in this method, which I like, much better!!). So, find an old school hairdresser and you'll get this cut!
I want this cut. I've let my hair grow out and I'm ready to try this cut
Wicked Ivor go for it 😁👍🏻
Cooooool ya better have gone for it! Fuck yea
me too love it
I had this hair cut in the 70’s. It was such fun and so freeing as they wearer.
Fantastic
I really appreciate your videos! Love that you don’t make me feel inferior to you! Doesn’t matter if you’ve been doing hair for 2 months or 22 years (like me), there is always new or different ways to achieve similar results! Cheers!
ah thank you thats is a massive compliment. 😄👌🏻
Just did this on my daughter, perfect! Thank you. I am qualified, but work alone. You are my staff room 😘
Wonderful Kim that is such a lovely analogy I really like the idea that I am your staff room
As somebody who's had a shag for awhile now and cuts my own hair, thank you so much! Your method makes layering so much easier.
ive been using this tutorial to cut my hair for over a year and im OBSESSED
Attempted...mild panic attack in the middle that tequila fixed...an hour later & could not be happier with the results! I started freaking out when I saw how the front was on its own before I made my way to the back 😆
Wonderful glad it worked out well for you in the end hope you enjoy wearing it
JAMES! My husband just did this cut in me and it turned out amazing! My first ever home hair cut, and it is gorgeous. Hubby is very impressed with himself, he’s now calling himself “Vidal”. My profile photo shows the new cut, air dried with a bit of sea salt spray. So grateful to you. Thank you!
Absolutely wonderful Carol that is amazing tell Vidal well done 👍🏻
“Long graduation” - I love that term for it! Just starting to watch.
Super glad you like it
@@TheLifeOfHair I actually used this technique last week on my hair and it worked really well! Perhaps the first video that really showed me how to trim my hair when it’s cut with shorter layers. Thanks!!!!
I’ve been a stylist for over 40 years and used to do this haircut in the 80’s and early 90’s. Then the styles changed and straight and flat became the thing and natural curly and/or waving hair got flat ironed, chemically smoothed and straightened and god forbid if the back was longer than the sides which the term “mullet” evolved! The thing with this haircut is many shapes can be obtained from it….fullness and closeness here and there…whatever you look good in is what can be achieved! I am so excited that this is making a comeback and that I can be a part of this great vintage look!
I've had such a hard time trying to find a stylist to give me a beautiful cut like this one. I come out with a bob every time. I may try to do this myself. Thank you for sharing this. I love it!
Steph my pleasure entirely glad you loved it 👍🏻😁

Fantastic Vale great comment Time to go out that undercut and have a curly mullet 😁👍🏻
Curls are lool very good on a mullet

Thank you , clear instructions without the hype. How I would have loved these videos back in the "60's"!!
This is the haircut I’ve been searching for. I’m a girl of the 1970’s. My hair loves a shag. Now it’s thinner with age but thank you so much for using a model with not super thick hair. I wish I could go to your salon☮️💟
I just gave myself this haircut last night and I swear this is the best cut I’ve ever gotten! Especially worn wavy/curly! I love it so much
hey please help i’m trying to do this on myself tonight . for the two back sections did he basically just comb them to the front , twist them so they’re straight , cut and match the front sections ?
I haven't had a professional cut in decades, but I'm finally ready and this is very close to what I think I need. Now, if only I can find a stylist who is willing to watch and able to replicate it! Thanks for sharing the proper technique. Wish me luck.

I love it. It looks really nice. Easy demo and simple. Less talking and easy to follow. Ur amazing.
Omg!! Such a great technique!! And simple ! Thank you!!
omg this haircut is so easy to follow n the end result is stunning ! thxsm!
I just did this on myself and I really like it. I’ll see if that changes in the following weeks. Lol I will say that because everything was cut straight across the top(above my ears) ended up looking a little more bulky than I wanted (I have medium/coarse hair and pretty thick.) If I do this again I’ll point cut. I went to cosmetology school a long time ago and never went into the industry so I just used my texturizing shears and my limited know-how to thin parts out until satisfied. Make sure if you try this to keep your back straight, elbows up, keep your sections tight, you hair needs to stay wet, and don’t cut past your first knuckle! It really does matter.
Hi Charlie! Well I hope you like in a few weeks time. There is more bulky areas above your ears will either do one of two things settle down or get thicker you could probably use a channel cutting technique or something similar to Debulk those areas. And thanks for the hot tips on doing this technique yourself
I followed this tutorial last December and I loved the results! Now, I'm back here again to once again cut my hair in that style. Tysm!
This is the best and easyest tutorial for shaggy hair I have ever seen. Thx for that

Yes this haircut is not all that popular these days fortunately it is having a revival so younger hairdressers will learn how to do it
I wish I could’ve found your tutorial before.
Yesterday, after watching 10+ CZcams tutorials for shags and layered haircuts, I cut my hair utilizing the techniques from 3 different vids.
I worked hard the crown area bc I wanted volume. It turned out great in my opinion. However the back looks bit choppy; I did the ponytail above forehead technique, but with yours I’m definitely trying it next time when my hair grows a bit more. I basically now have a layered bob with volume in crown. But def want the shaggy hairstyle. Love that you go straight to the point, very clear instructions and specially love the non-over chatting video. Thx for this!
Superb I’d love to know how you get on when you try my technique 😁👍🏻
I love this! So practical and easy to understand.
I have to try this. Will comment when I do. Thanks for sharing.
I wore this style until I was 40 . Then grew it out one length after my mother-in-law died she was the only one that could cut it like that. I love my hair and it's really long but I'm going to lose it a few weeks after I start chemo at the beginning of August, so I think I will take the plunge now and revisit another time before I cut it really short and eventually shave it.
Wow this comment is really powerful thank you for sharing
