I have fond memories of my F.A.S.T. 201 but the most important thing I remember is swapping the stock bearing for the bearing from a Duncan Freehand. This widened the gap, reduced the response, and let it spin twice as long.
I want to thank you for recommending this yoyo to me, my new 201 arrived today, and the training wheels really work! All the basic tricks that were harder on my dominator are now so easy!

If you are just getting into string tricks I would recommend either the Luminator Advanced Kit (the Luminator is the yoyo we use to teach all our string tricks, the Advanced Kit gets it setup to play great), or the Velocity which will help you transition from basic to advanced string tricks, or the Legacy II which can also help take you very far. Take a look at our descriptions of these yoyos on the YoTricks website and that should help you get a good feel of which yoyo is right for you.
@asiashuffler yes, although you will need lube to keep the Dominator looping great. With a little Super Lube every so often the Dominator is one of the best looping yoyos available.
In most cases I would recommend the Fast 201 over the Brain because it can take you farther. However, if you feel like you may be a little klutzy (uncoordinated) then the Brain will make learning the first 2 or 3 tricks easier.

If you are getting to the point where the FAST response system is messing up the string, that usually means it is time to upgrade to a more advanced yoyo. The only yoyo I would recommend of all the ones you mentioned is the Velocity. We carry that yoyo on YoTricks, and we also sell it in a pack that includes extra strings and some yoyo lube which protects the bearing so it can last much longer than it will dry.
If you are having a hard time getting the bearing out you can try putting the yoyo in the freezer for a couple of minutes to an hour. This sometimes helps me. You could also try the Multitool if you have one, or if someone you know has one. This is the easiest way to remove bearings that fit a little too tightly on yoyos.
The yoyo can be loud, so if you might find that annoying you might want to go with a different yoyo, like the Luminator yoyo we use in most of our videos. With any new yoyo you should get extra strings. If you get the Luminator I suggest you get the Luminator Advanced Kit. This will not only get you extra strings but a few other items that will keep your yoyo working great.
+Vignesh Manikandan This yoyo is only recommended for someone who has never yoyoed before. It can take you as far as the basic string tricks (1a), but you will need a different yoyo if you want to get into advanced play.
+Christian Skwara yeah I remember I was given a dollar store "yoyo" that didn't even sleep. Like at all. It would go to the bottom and it would stop INSTANTLY. it was also a dragon ballz yoyo. Omg dragon ballz, dragon ball z.
If you are already getting into string tricks then really the whole world of yoyos is opened to you. It all depends on how much you want to spend. If you are looking for something under $25 the Legacy II and the Velocity are both great options. The Velocity is adjustable, which is nice, but the Legacy II comes with a full size bearing so it can probably take you further. If you are happy spending over $25 you can't go wrong with the Protostar or Dark Magic II. We have all these on YoTricks.

If you go to YoTricks.com and then click where it says Yoyo Tricks in the menu it will take you to a page with a description of each style and will give you a sense of how difficult each style is (the numbers do not refer to difficulty). In general, most people learn 30-40 1A tricks first before trying the different styles. Which styles you choose are totally up to you.
If you have never yoyoed before I would recommend this yoyo. If you are already starting to work on string tricks, however, I would recommend the Velocity. We sell both on the YoTricks website.
Every Luminator ships with a spare bolt, we usually attach it to the packing slip, so you should be able to fix your Luminator. On the Fast 201 you shouldn't ever need to handle the bearing or the spacers. They should fit very snug, and once the bearing is on the spacer you should be able to spin the bearing when the yoyo is apart and have the bearing spin free for a few seconds. If this is not happening the only thing I can think is that the bearing is not fitting onto the spacers properly.
If you have never yoyoed before I say get the fast 201. If you have yoyoed a little and feel confident that you can throw the yoyo down, get it back up, and get a decent sleeper get the Velocity. I suggest you either get the Fast 201 Beginner Pack, or the Velocity Starter Pack on YoTricks, because they both come with things like strings that you will need to keep practicing.
I am really loving this yoyo! The starbursts have made it possible for me to learn the sleeper and get a good time on them and learb rock the cradle trick, in less than a day!
We are currently working on a few other aspects of the site. We are eager to get back to videos, though. I hope we can make some new stuff sooner than later. :)
We will post a video about this at some point. Basically you just put a tiny amount on each side of the bearing (less than a drop if you can help it) and then wipe off the outside of the bearing with a paper towel to remove any excess lube.
There are a ton of great 1A yoyos available. The best yoyo for you depends on how good you are already (what tricks you already know) and how much you want to spend. We have all of our favorite yoyos on the YoTricks website store, I suggest you look through those and see if one looks good to you.

If you can tighten the yoyo a little it should become more responsive. If that is not working you may need to replace your string. Sometimes if a string gets too tight or too loose it will cause a yoyo to be less responsive than it should be. If that does not help then you can try lubing the bearing which will certainly work.

I suppose it could be a couple of things, but it sounds like it may either be overtightened, or the string may have slipped down between the bearing and the yoyo. Try loosening the gap a little and see if that helps. Also, check to make sure that the string is sitting on the bearing and not between the bearing and the yoyo. Also, did this just start happening, or has it been happening since you got your yoyo?
If you still have the Luminator you can remove the bolt by pushing it through the yoyo and then take it to any store that sells bolts and get a new one. It should not cost too much and it will get you started again.

I'm getting a yomega maverick tomorrow and I've had one b4 and I loved it my first one I had was when I was in the 4 or 5th grade and I'm in 8th now and seeing your videos made me want to get another one thank you soo much and btw my dad threw the yoyo away cuz I didn't use it for about 2 years and I haven't had one since what a wast of $30 well bam then it was $40
I got this yoyo as my first yoyo and thank goodness its durable because it fell of the string and bounced on concrete and other hard surfaces a bunch of times

I have tried a few different strings with this yoyo and they all seem to play about the same. Usually I use 100% polyester, though, because it lasts the longest.
You need a different yoyo for looping than for string tricks. In your case I would recommend getting an Unleashed for looping and a FlipSide for string tricks. Get some medium lube for the unleashed and some thin lube for the flip side. Between those two yoyos you will have everything you need to learn every type of trick. Both should last longer than other similar yoyos as well, they can take a bit more punishment.
The OneStar is not designed for beginners, it is an advanced yoyo. It is supposed to be a less expensive version of the Protostar. It does not need lube, but it is a good idea to put some thin lube in the bearing to keep it from wearing out. For the price it is a good yoyo, but it is not one I would recommend for beginners.
For the Fast 201 the type of string doesn't really matter, I suggest you just find some string that is in a color you like. We have lots of different string on the YoTricks website in several colors.
I know there are a few good videos on how to clean a yoyo bearing. If you just recently added the lubeI you could probably just drop the bearing in some Mineral Spirits for about an hour and it should come out working just fine.
If you are breaking off the spokes on the Fast 201 that usually means that you are a little too advanced for that yoyo, but you might be right about the looping as well. This yoyo is not really designed to practice loops.

As far as I can tell there are really only 2 yoyos that are for beginners, the Yomega Brain and the Fast 201. (By "beginner" we mean someone who needs something easier than a regular yoyo to get them started, so something like the Velocity is more advanced than what we would call a "beginner" yoyo). Most of this video is implicitly comparing these 2 yoyos, and compared to the Brain it is more durable. Your points about the starbursts are well taken, though I have not seen this happen myself.
You should be able to do Split the Atom with a Fast 201 as easy as with any other yoyo. You might want to try loosening the gap a little to see if that helps. We have a beginner playlist on our youtube channel. On the YoTricks website we also arrange all the tricks in all the categories according to difficulty so it is easy to find a trick at your level.
With the large or the small bearing. The small bearing should be able to sleep a little longer than this with a good throw. The large bearing should sleep much much longer.
The yoyo will only come back when you pull it up, that is how you give it slack. If you wind the yoyo loosely it should wind up normally. If the yoyo is not coming back up when you pull it up that usually means you need to throw the yoyo harder.

Have you tried replacing the string?
The Luminator typically sleeps about 30-40 seconds stock. Setup with the unresponsive kit it can sleep 2-3 times as long.

I doubt it. The spacers should fit in the yoyo pretty tight. Although, if you put the spacer in backwards that could cause the problem you are having.

Whenever I am having a problem with a yoyo the first thing I try is changing the string. That may be the problem.

The yoyo will only come back when you pull it up, that is how you give it slack. If you wind the yoyo loosely it should wind up normally. If the yoyo is not coming back up when you pull it up that usually means you need to throw the yoyo harder.
