    Do you know how the throttle Linkage works on a 75 deville or what parts are included in this mechanism?

      We personally have not owned a 75 but we know that both fuel injection and a carburetor were offered. I suggest you either order a shop manual or download one. There are also schematics available on line showing in detail the parts involved in your application. Thank you for watching!

    I have a 68 coupe deville and when it sits for a day I need to pump the pedal like 50 times to get it to catch. Once it's warmed up it starts right up after that. It will also seem to idle high until it's warm. Is this a spring issue?

      Some older or worn carbs loose fuel pressure and the gas runs out of the line. So you have to pump multiple times to get gas back to carb- Have a good carb mechanic check it for you! Thanks for watching!

    just wondering, what would cause it to disel after turning ignition off?

    • @Cadillacguy100
      @Cadillacguy100  Před rokem +1

      Ensure your car is off FAST IDLE before you turn it off. If you switch your engine off and it continues to run or sputters then you are experiencing run-on or dieseling. This can be caused by Too fast an idle speed or Too lean a fuel mixture at top end from incorrect timing and/or a vacuum leak.
      Good luck and thank you for watching. Please liked and subscribe.

    When did Cadillac introduce electric choke heaters?

    • @Cadillacguy100
      @Cadillacguy100  Před 6 lety

      Cadillac had been using heat to open their chokes for decades- starting with a choke tube. This choke tube or pipe uses heat from the exhaust manifold and sends it to the choke housing containing the thermostatic choke spring. As the engine warms up it opens the choke. Most car makes started using electric chokes and electric heating coils in the 1970's. Thanks for watching!

    Hello, I have a 74 deville and I replaced alternator, battery, fuel pump, tune up, ignition coil too and still gives me a hard time to start, but runs flawless. Most times she turns over right away and dies multiple times. When warmed up she just cranks for a long time maybe 5 times before starting. Im just confused if I should look into a carb issue or a timing issue, I need help

      Start with the simple things first. Checking the timing is simple enough and some stores even rent timing lights. They are also not too expensive to purchase and own. Sounds more like a fuel delivery problem- so change the fuel filter or filters. Many people change the inline filter but not the filter on the carb. If the tank is original- it could potentially be rusty and small particles could be plugging things up. Its also easy enough to disconnect and blow out the lines. If this does not help- check that the choke is opening and closing properly. THIS IS VITAL TO FUEL BEING BROUGHT TO THE CARB FOR STARTING. If this is all good- I suggest you use the following checklist:
      If the engine is turning over at a normal speed with the starter, check these things:
      1) Vapor locked carburetor. You may have to install a heat shield/spacer to disapate the heat.
      2) IF it is a Q-jet, then most likely the welch plugs in the bottom of the main body are leaking. Buy a rebuild kit, a new float, an accelerator pump
      3) HEI distributor is flaking out when it's hot. Have the module tested OR Replace the points if it has them
      4) Bad grounds from the back of the engine (usually a valve cover screw or a bolt in the cylinder head) to the firewall. Clean and tighten ground.
      If it is turning over slow= ensure the battery is fully charged and the starter is the correct one for the car. We know a guy who put a starter from a S-10 truck on a big block-it would not turn over when hot at all- only when cool. An engine expands when hot and compression increases- so much more power is needed to turn over fast enough to start.
      Good Luck and thanks for watching!

    or say the F with it and put a manual one in .although doing it on a keeper might not so tempting

    That spring is extremely hard to find now. And if you do its 100 bucks or more.
