  • How to get a dirt bike registered with a title and license plate.
    I chose Fall River, Hot Springs (605) 745-5145. The whole process took about 1 week.
    ** Do not send Off-Road Vehicle Affidavit - this is why my registration said ATV
    Documents Needed:
    (1) original title/certificate of origin - you will surrender this for the new title
    (2) copy of driver's license, ss# card (or W-2), contact phone number
    (3) Motor Vehicle Application
    (4) Bill of Sale - to avoid paying sales tax

    I live in WI and would love having a street legal Enduro - specifically a late model or new 2 stroke. I can title Vintage 2 strokes, street and Enduro, but unsure about a new Beta 300 X-Trainer, or KTM 300 XC or similar. I called my DMV in Madison and they seemed more concerned about having the white decal that reads "This vehicle complies with all Federal, State, blah, blah, regulations. etc., " but a bike made for off-road wouldn't have that, unless it's something like a Honda CRF450RL which is legal from the factory. More checking shows that, if the 8th charachter of the VIN is a "3" or "C", WI won't title it. Yet I've seen titled, plated, Beta's, Gas Gas's in OH, IL, and other states! Wouldn't ALL states flag you over the 8th digit - it means it's not emissions legal, right??

      @@lowxpectations , well, you can thank Evil Evers and anyone who voted for that Liberal hack. It used to be cheap and easy to title and plate in WI! Anyway I bought a Beta XT over in MN, and had it delivered here for fairly cheap. I wasn't charged anything, regarding paperwork, it was like buying from a private party; up to me to title, plate, and pay WI sales tax. Got brave and went to my DMV (last July) with the COO which, with a Beta, looks like an ordinary street legal one. I got lucky, but was sweating the whole time, as the clerk asked me lots of questions. She'd never heard of Beta, questioned the 293cc engine size, I told her Beta was a new company and it was a 300cc "commuter bike" and I was just trying to save money getting to work, or something like that. Made up a low price for taxes and left with a plate, or maybe it was mailed, can't remember.
      If you have a European bike you can prolly do what I did, I don't think you have anything to lose. If rejected I would have tried the SD deal. What make and model are you getting?

    I’m in ny, wanted to know if this would work for transferring the SD plate to a NY plate after getting it plated in SD? Also just wanted to know if a MSO is required to get the plate in SD first? Basically because some MSO’s and Titles state “For off road use only” and most of the times these bikes can’t be plated if that’s stated on the MSO and Title so just wanted to know if this also includes SD or if this would still be eligible to do in SD even if that’s stated on the MSO, Title or Certificate of Origin. Appreciate any information if possible.

    • @NativeAssocaition
      @NativeAssocaition  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes once you receive the SD title you can then use that title to register in your state. In the video at 2:06 my certificate of origin from NJ states “This vehicle was not manufactured for use in public streets, roads, or highways” and South Dakota still issued me with the license plate, registration, and title.

Think the only other questions I’d have would be if you can use an MSO if you don’t have the certificate of origin and if the 8th digit of the bikes VIN number can’t be 3 or C? I know some bikes wouldn’t be able to be plated if either one of those were in the 8th digit of the VIN.

      1. Did you fill out the Off Road portion of the Low Speed & Offroad Vehicle application or did you use the Off Road -Vehicle affidavit form with a space at the bottom for a notary? I'm seeing the ** in the video description says Do NOT send off-road vehicle affidavit, just double checking what you sent.
      2. And did you end up sending the motor vehicle/boat title registration application? I've got the actual title for my dirt bike so is this necessary?
      3. Also did you leave any Title spaces on forms empty for when they create a new title number for you? Or fill out your existing.
