  • UPDATE 7/11/23 - The Vermont registration process for out of state applicants has been shut down! I am planning to make a follow up video to this.
    Vermont Title Process Explained! No Title to Clean Title! The GS550 is now fully road ready with a crisp new Missouri title! Using the Vermont registration process I went from a non-titled motorcycle to a fully legal Missouri registered motorcycle with a bit of time and due diligence! I used all of the information I could find from www.cartitles.com to work through the process. It really wasn't too bad or overly complicated so definitely think about using this method should you be in the same situation. I have linked valuable sources below:

    Hello everyone, please understand this is my single experience with doing this process so I can not possibly know if you can register an obscure vehicle with no paperwork in a random state. I laid out the process I went through in my hopes to explain what the whole "Vermont title" is. I have linked cartitles.com as well as the Vermont DOR which you should absolutely reference. Understand the process and what you aim to do before starting this. The information is out there but will require some reading so please be ready for a bit of leg work on this.

    HI, good video ,,,couple questions, when they send you the registration and the vermont tags to your state is the bike legally able to be ridden with those tags on it? Also, will this work for a bike where the title is "lost" maybe somehwere there is a title floating around but the seller did not have it, can you still use this method? TY again.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety

      You can ride the bike but don't consider it a permanent thing as you aren't a resident of Vermont. For the lost title if you have contact with the previous owner I'd try to have them apply for a lost title to then sign over to you. That would be much easier. If you don't know who had the title last, purchase a records search from the state you think it was last registered in and go from there.

It will pass the state inspection no problem. The inspection im tryin to avoid is the highway patrol inspection cause they tend to be dicks in MO and wanna make up rules as they go. Just thought your way might be easier, even if it cost me a bit more. Ive done it the hard way and was lookin for a faster easier way. Thanks for the vid! It was very informative! I appreciate it!

    Little update FLORIDA no longer honors this method. In other words, at least for now, you can't register a vermont title in FL if your vermont registration doesn't meet conventional standards. in other words if you live in FL you'll have to go another route which there are almost not other options because a bonded title only works for newer vehicles etc.

      A bonded title is completely different. This is a proof of ownership that you obtain via Vermont. You then transfer that to get a clean clear title in your state. Thats assuming your state accepts this form of ownership documentation

      I recommend checking out the Vermont DOR website to see what they state as a requirement. Then look at what forms of vehicle ownership your state accepts. Then possibly look at the cartitles.com link I have as he provides a ton of information. I can only speak to me single experience with this bike which I wanted to share. I can't possibly know every scenario for every state.

    Vermont REQUIRES NADA clean dealer trade in value, if you try anything else they will not accept it. Then they do tax on that value or your bill of sale price, whichever is GREATER.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds

      Its kbb or nada whichever is highest. They use that to determine tax. You want your bill of sale figure to be within a reasonable distance from that higher value figure so it doesn't seem like you are trying to scam them.

    Vermont will not issue a Title to a Non-resident. This will only work if your state accepts an out of state registration as ownership. Many states do not. For example, GA, NC, and VA do not acknowledge a registration as proof of ownership, must be titled.

      A few notes, nearly every video or site on the matter uses Vermont title and Vermont registration as one in the same. As I stated in the video Vermont doesn't issue a physical title for vehicles over 15 years old so the registration acts as the ownership document AKA title. On the back of the registration it has an area to fill out for transfer of ownership. I explain all of these things. My title is clear and easy to search for those seeking information on the matter.
