During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth educational videos of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. This gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without seeing it in person. Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect. I treat every vehicle with the same respect regardless of the year and pricepoint. I film all types of vehicles from the past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. 100 points for mentioning the cool air ventilation system!!
I owned the convertible version of this car, purchased new in 1990, in Europe, where it was called the 900 Cabriolet Turbo Aero (which I understand is called SPG in the US).
I would drive about twice a week between Paris and Brussels - a 3-hour drive which could be made considerably shorter (and a lot more fun) in a car like this.
With cooler temperatures much of the year, it would be common to have some degree of heating on, but this cool air directed toward the face was very refreshing, and kept me alert.
My recollection, with the special red engine performance module, was that it was rated for 200HP.

Is this a time capsule car, or a restoration? Stunning. I would give a lot to be able to daily-drive an SPG again. I've had 3 of them in the past (including an '87 with the rare "whale tail" spoiler), and had I known I would miss the 900 so badly I'd have kept all 3 SPG's and a couple of the turbo notches as well. I had a 1991 SPG almost identical to this one. When that turbo was blowing hot my goodness it was insane on the interstate. It would feel like it was floating when I would accelerate and I could jam on the brakes and it would nose first toward the ground and stop on a dime. I would hit tight curves at insane speeds and it would hug the street (i had great tires and shocks). Speedometer went to 135 or 145 but there was room on the dial and I pushed that car all the way and butied the needle many times innthr middle of the night. Im sure I hit 155 and maybe a little faster.
I miss that car so much. I gave it to my dad when I had my first child and he drove it till 330,000 miles when the local SAAB mechanic said he wouldnt work on it anymore due to some safety issues that were too expensive to fix.

A friend had a non turbo as his first car in 2000. He lived in West Virginia at the time and managed to roll it onto its roof one winter on a dirt road that went to his parents remote cabin. The roof was not dented, but there were some deep scratches that didn't polish out. It was one hell of a car. The fuel injection was interesting to say the least.

I drove an '88 900t as a daily driver for 15 years. Ronal RT rims that looked amazing. Miss that really fun, unique car that was labor of love.
I added a right vent for my hand since the far right center vent was too far away. Inidiglo gauges and other stuff. 3500 dollar stereo that I still miss. Sold the car when the head cracked, to a saabaphile and too much other stuff was needed. I would have kept it if I could find long term parking for it and another daily driver.
I still have a soft spot for pre GM Saabs
I knew GM was the final death nail for the company.
    Cheers.
BTW, I got a brand new 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen SE and still love it.
Reminds me of my Saab in many ways but very refined and fun to drive.

Very good, comprehensive review. I especially appreciated the explanation of the unique drive train which eliminates torque steer when under acceleration. I own a 2007 Saab 2.0T which is a GM car and it does not do that and it shows. I imagine the twin drive shaft approach was expensive to make so no chance of that being continued under GM.

Modern cars are the product of focus groups and market trends. As a result no one would dare build a car as unique and distinctive as a Saab 900. By modern standard the car suffers from a bit torque steer and turbo lag but the steering brakes and suspension dynamics are excellent even by modern standards .

Lol, that boot space. I legit actually stuffed up a moped in one of these classic saabs. I also regularily carry my bicycle inside, since it's so easy to store it in there.

Good to see its being taken care of..I too have a '88 Black SPG that is garaged and babied. I added the 16" aero wheels, other than that ours are identical.

On frequent sunny days in Colorado I can put the top down on the convertible and the limited cargo hauling space becomes much larger. With a few bungee cords/straps I have achieved a good Beverly Hillbillies look. Get some weight on the back and your looking at BMW like 50/50 weight distribution. Just ignore the drag, wedge your big American drink somewhere because there are no cupholders, crank the ABBA and move all your College stuff from the Fraternity to your new apartment cross town. Big eighties rules! RayBans, Izod shirt, boat shoes and a TURBO! I bought a 9 3 SE in '99 and drove it many years until a little accident totaled it. Found a cheap '91 convertible so I went back to the classic 900 and I will stick to the old 900, even with no cup holders and all the other quirks.

We had an '87 Saab 900 turbo when I was in grade school. I felt like the coolest kid on the block when I rode in it. Until I saw an SPG..
