Good on you Benji for calling the correct winner in 2021
Brilliant to see riders taking the race into their own hands with courage and spirit. Good to see worthy winners of the men's and women's races do the same. Chapeau! Marianna. Chapeau! Tom.
Yes, was a great final to watch because of that. And a crazy finish in the women's race, always fun to see that haha.
Schoolgirl error, don’t celebrate too soon🤦♂️
Bauke Mollema top 10s make the world go round
If Bling was in a stronger team, he would have had an outstanding classic season.
amazing race, both for men and women's race^ Congrats to Tom and Vos! great wins!
If I was a team manager there would be a fine in the contract for early post ups
Not that MVDP is trying to lose anything, but does anyone get the sense that he decided his fate in the race early on, played it really safe knowing LBL is next and likely higher on his list?
Lot’s of tech difficulties lately with freezing and sound. Have we been spoiled?
Congrats Patrick !
Loved the mens race. Great final 40k with lots of suspense.
Vos did the same as Wiebes when she clelebrated too early in Amstel Gold in 2021 against Vollering. But Vos had more luck than Wiebes and still won the race, but it was a close call!
Have you guys noticed an uptick in views since the end of GCN plus?
No scandals this year, but the tv direction was pretty bad again, it took ages before the heli zoomed in to see where the rainbow jersey was after the Keutenberg, and they never showed the spring of the peloton for 10th place.
Fun race nonetheless.
Congratulations Tom🥇
Continuing to love benjis massive improvement in English and the mashed translations of what I assume are Belgium idioms. “Kick the fan and see what happens” might be my new favourite
Carapaz guys in the barriers
Monumenten de naam kwam van Belgische televisie, in een poging om de klassieker niet te verkleinen in voordeel van de de tour de France.
Anders 15 a 20 jaar geleden was het enkel nog tour de France.
Benji is that you on that picture of trollstigen??
Kholo loop ❤
I think MVDP was not as good as in the previous races, but his legs were still OK, I think he did not really empty his tank. He should be fine for LBL, though obviously even then it will be incredibly hard for him to beat Pogi.
If a race being boring until close to the end means its not a monument then what about Milan San Remo?
It's fun how Benji keeps underestimating the Amstel Gold Race.... The AGR knows almost 4000 meter of height difference that has to be overcome... Compare this with the tour of Flanders, that has just 2200 meter of height difference... Flanders has it cobbles of course which does give the race it's charme, but just take a look at the names of the riders who won the Amstel Gold Race and you will understand that this is no race to underestimate. ✌Hinault, Cunego, Merckx, Di Luca, Gilbert, Raas, Zoetemelk, Stablinski, Rebellin, Zabel, Vinokourov, Pogacar, van der Poel, van Aert. Pidcock, Museeuw, Bartoli, Riis to name just a few......
well... you're complaining about underestimating, and then you call 3290 meters "almost 4000" c'mon now, big dog :D
A group of 40 riders finishing about 20 seconds behind the winner speaks so much already about the race, this is no tour of flanders nor as hard.
Good lesson for Wiebes for the Olympics🙃. This performance probably cemented her spot in the Dutch team as the climbs at the Olympics are not very hard or plentiful. Will be fascinating once again who will be in that team. Ellen Van Dijk will be in because of the TT, and she will be a very useful domestique. Vollering should be there because she can be a luxury domestique like in AGR or as a potential breakaway option. Then Wiebes will probably be there, because unlike Vos she is the one rider that can be a guaranteed sprint winner against Kopecky etc. Then the question is will you bring a second allrounder like Van Anrooij, a domestique like Markus or a potential winner like Vos. And we still have the same DS as in Tokyo and Leuven😳.
Some riders with good legs missed the move because they were focusing on MvDP
Actually, I enjoyed this race more than RVV and Roubaix. There was suspense and many interesting players.
Agreed.
Benoot not pulling with the group of 12? Look at the top of the Keutenberg please. Great to see him at this level. Hopefully his pregnant wife can still wait one week ;)
I just heard, the organizers reviewed the photo finish and relegated Pidcock to second behind Wout van Aert 🤏
I guess when WVA is not here, he wins.
Where’s da weekly?????
Nice to see MvdP didn’t win, congrats to Vos for going for it and winning!
Glad to hear that LR is listening to Huberman and doing zone 2 training. . .jk
I think amstel and lbl have too much elevation for MVP. He would have not won Amstel if JA and Fulsang would have not p**s around in the first place and now way he can follow Pogi or Remco on laredoute or roche au faucon! Only my opinion :)
The race is more difficult for him to win, he cannot simply dominate and ride away 50km from the finish. There are more potential winners and the race usually becomes tactical at the end. But it is not too much elevation for him to win it, in his second participation after his win he was also 4th. But then like now everyone was watching him and he cannot react to every move, and then also he did not have teammates in the final.
It really doesn’t matter if a race is a monument or not we all just want to watch good cycling. I don’t agree with Saying it was boring till 35km would disqualify it as a monument when MSR is always a snooze fest until the end.
shambolic race
Race-ist much?
Until 15 years ago the Monuments were not even a thing, it is a relatively young PR term. AGR was always a big race, a little bit below Flanders and Roubaix and LBL in standing but way above Brabantse Pijl and god forbid Nokere koers ( not sure if it existed). The race was supposed to have Van Aert and Remco too, which would have changed the race.
BTW MSR is boring until 8 km from the finish every year, so that should definitely not be a Monument according to Benji. LBL was not exiting at all in the last two years, and generally it has not been very exiting very often. It also never starts before Redoute which is also within the last 35 km. Lombardia is a race that basically no rider really cares about that much. That leaves only Flanders and PR as two basically consistently good races. So let’s stick with two Monumemts from now on.
Ineos gets so much flak from you for no world tour wins. celebrate their wins!
Knowing how strong MVDP was just one week ago, to then go to this, looks very scripted to me, just way too bizarre
...the good sportsmanship thing would have been for Vos to give the win to Wiebes... oh well...
Fedorov will do funny shit like get a top 20 on the champs elysses after finishing literally dead last on multiple stages
"Give the win"? Wiebes lost, this is not a school yard, it's professional racing!
@@Gabrielle4870 Of course, because of the circumstance, everybody is embarrassed. If Vos concedes the win to Wiebes, then only Wiebes is embarrassed, and Vos can be admired for being gracious and not wanting to benefit from someone else's bizarre mistake... oh well of course it's no problem that Vos did not do so, less hassle
Strongly disagree.
@@alpsalish "strongly"? i don't see why, in a sense, yes, Vos deserves the triumph and Wiebes deserves the humiliation. And yet, in another sense, quite clearly to me, neither of them deserve it!
@@00100Matt then you're stupid? This isn hard.
