What makes this tutorial stand out above the rest is the clear well-spoken instructions; but, in particular, it's the advice on recalibrating the new battery which puts it way ahead of other tutorial videos. EXCELLENT!!

To install the new battery, i completely shut down the laptop. After i install the new battery do I then power it on and then turn it back off again?

Had my MacBook Air 2012 for 7.5 years and the battery would last maybe an hour and a half before I changed it. Seeing 13 hours of battery remaining after changing my battery with the help of this video was a great feeling

Excellent instructional video, however, I found it difficult to reconnect power cable after the battery had been screwed in place, as the wires were quite stiff and I had difficulty getting the battery terminal end to insert into the little slot. I loosened the battery, easily inserted the battery terminal end and retightened the screws. So, I would advise connecting battery to computer before tightening the screws holding battery into place.

My only wonder with this strategy is the possibility of static discharge because you're bringing a metal screw driver close to a plugged-into-power machine. Not sure if that matters or not. I also had the issue with the wire being very stiff.

I know NOTHING about the internal workings of a laptop. As far as I'm aware, both computers and the internet are run by sorcery and magic. But I was able to follow this video easily and make the replacement myself. The video is easy to follow.
My laptop battery was DONE. My laptop would not turn on for even a second if it was not connected to the power adaptor. Currently my battery power remaining is sitting at just under 16 hours.

Very helpful video thanks. I bought a (cheapish) non-Apple replacement battery - not your brand, sorry - with a relatively long cable and no pull-tab, so I had to compress the wires into a very small space. The only advice I'd propose for other battery installers is to make sure that the connector's terminals face down, and not to try to force the tab into the slot with the terminals the wrong way round, i.e. facing up!!

Whenever I turned on my Mac, it would give me the 'no battery' icon. After trying everything just the way it's suggested on the video, it simply stopped doing that! ;)

When putting multiple screws back in on any type of cover, one should always work in sequence where you skip one overthe next, and it takes two rounds to complete. Best is to not tighten completely first time, thus it takes 2 turns, and with skipping requires 4 rounds

I did exactly this....but: when I put the new battery in and turned the Mac on the battery percentage read around 68% then I charged it to 100%. I drained it to shutdown as you said. Then I plugged it back in and turned it on and the battery percentage has said 1% for hours now and doesn't seem to charge. If I remove the AC power the MacBook says it will shut down any moment due to low battery. I don' know what to do. It's like the battery and battery percentage reader was working fine until I decided to discharge the battery.

If possible, please remove the back panel from your Mac, and unplug the battery connector. Hold down the power button for 10-seconds, and then replug. You can then perform the SMC & PRAM resets again. I have included the PRAM reset info below just incase you need it.
      PRAM RESET
1.Shut down your machine. , "all the way down, not sleep or logging out"
2.Press the power button and then press command-option-p-r. You have to make sure you get those keys pressed before the gray screen comes up or it won’t work.
3.Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you hear the startup chime.
4.Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally.

In the new replacement battery kit that I purchased, the user manual said that "Pls discharge the battery to 2% and then charge fully to 100% at the first cycle after purchasing. Do NOT discharge the battery pack to 0% as that will damage the battery pack and shorten its life. However, in this tutorial it said that we should discharge to 0% for the first cycle. Which one is more accurate? Thanks!

      Hi WC,
With the calibration process 2% would be the max percentage that would be recommend the charge be at prior to fully charging the battery to 100% for the calibration process.

You're so helpful. Thank you !
I still have a problem : when you should leave it connected for at least two hours after you fully charge it, you can use the Mac ? and when you charge it back up the second time, you shouldn't ? Thx

Hello and thanks for inquiring! I believe what you are looking to do is condition your battery for use after installing.
      1. Perform a fresh charge to the New battery without uses.
      2. Disconnect your MagSafe from your Mac and use until 10% or less.
      3. Perform another fresh charge to the New battery without uses.
      4. Repeat steps 2-3 four to five times.
      5. **Once a month perform steps 2-3.
This will get your battery used to charging and dying normally, if you have any further questions please send them to support@owc.com and we can assist further!

      Hey Kyess,
So to 100% honest with you, you should never use the MacBook connected to the charge at all times, the reason for this is because it loses its purpose of it function. So batteries are designed for them to be charged and then disconnected to function properly and do so correctly the battery will provide you a better battery capacity.
Now another reason why you should not always have it connected is because it caused the battery to overheat and cause it to swell which is not good.

How good is the performance of the battery compared to the original one?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  Před 3 lety

Hi POWERMAXUM! NewerTech batteries are designed to meet or exceed factory specifications. When properly calibrated, the NuPower 74 Wh battery should last well beyond the 1 year warranty period.

Great video, loved the calibration part at the end. I own a Macbook Air (A1466) and my battery needs replacement. I had a quick question, I saw elsewhere that there are 3 options for a replacement battery, all indicated with an A number. My macbook is manufactured in mid 2013 - does anyone have an idea what the compatible battery might be? I think it might be a A1496, but I'm just not sure. Your inputs are most appreciated. Thank you!

Calibrating the Power Management System is this recommended on an old MacBook Air 2013?
I got it as a gift and noticed the battery drain too fast and may need a new one, so figured I could try the battery tricks to see if it just needs recalibrated so to speak.
Any suggestions or would this maybe help or not recommenced for old batteries as they may not come back after 5 hours of complete drain
Does this not drain CMOS too and maybe a bad situation for some?

      @poweredbyowc  Před 3 lety

Calibrating the Power Management System is a recommended step, including for a MacBook Air 2013, as it allows the Mac and battery to properly communicate and work together to provide you the best information as to the design capacity and current charge capacity. Doing this calibration may definitely help with that MBA, however if for any reason there is any other issues or concerns, feel free to contact us using our support page tab @ macsales.com We are always happy to help :)
