    When they got to the part of the video where they finally pull the logic board I couldn’t help staring at the wide open section of metal that is the actual back of the iMac. You know, the spot where Apple could have easily put an access panel. They have become the polar opposite of the company they once were. Great video from OWC, but there’s just way too many points where a connector is not going to come loose, or a screw will get stripped, etc. for me to justify attempting this.

    Hi, thank you in advance OWC for this instructional video! I am very new to iMac, but I own a 2017 21.5-inch iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive. Does this mean that my iMac has a socket for an NVMe SSD? If yes, can I replace both the HDD and the SSD? Thanks, OWC.

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 4 dny

      Your iMac will only have that option if it comes with an SSD in that slot from the factory. This would be if your iMac either had just an NVMe SSD already installed or a fusion drive installed. If neither of these came on the iMac it will usually not have the option to add it in later.

My dad’s friend said however that it should work otherwise I can use a usb which contain an update and then put it on my Mac to install. • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 6 dny

      If the MacBook Air has an older operating system installed, it could be causing compatibility issues with certain apps or websites. To resolve this, try entering Internet Recovery mode and updating the system from there. If that doesn't work, using a USB installer would be the next recommended step.

    I have a pair of Angel Birds, one bricks the camera on playback of footage sometimes. Yet according to your video, my cards should be compatible as well based on read write speeds. I do get the Not Guaranteed Media pop up though. Could there be something else amiss?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 6 dny

      While our video indicates compatibility based on read/write speeds, the "Not Guaranteed Media" pop-up suggests there might be other factors at play. It’s possible that the card could have a firmware issue or a compatibility quirk with your specific camera model. We recommend checking for any firmware updates for both your camera and the memory cards. Additionally, try testing the cards in another device to see if the issue persists. If the problem continues, please feel free to reach out to our support team for further assistance. We’re here to help resolve any issues you might be facing.

    Have an late 2013 14.2 27 iMac with original FusionDrive. Is it better just updating the nvme to 2gb main ssd and remove the hdd. Or let the nvme as it is and just change hdd to a sata 2.5 SSD? Whats the difference?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 8 dny

      Thank you for your question! The choice between upgrading to an NVMe SSD or a SATA SSD depends on your preferences and needs. NVMe SSD: - Performance: NVMe drives offer significantly faster read and write speeds compared to SATA SSDs, resulting in quicker boot times, faster file transfers, and overall improved system performance. - Installation Difficulty: Installing an NVMe SSD in an iMac involves removing the display, which can be challenging and requires special tools and adhesive strips. It's a more complex process compared to swapping out the HDD for a SATA SSD. SATA SSD: - Performance: While not as fast as NVMe SSDs, SATA SSDs still provide a substantial performance boost over traditional HDDs. They offer faster access times and improved system responsiveness. - Installation Difficulty: Replacing the HDD with a SATA SSD is generally easier and less risky than installing an NVMe SSD. It involves fewer steps and less risk of damaging the display. If you're comfortable with the more complex installation and want the best possible performance, upgrading to an NVMe SSD is a great choice. However, if you prefer a simpler upgrade process, replacing the HDD with a SATA SSD is still an excellent option and will noticeably improve your iMac's performance. Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance!

I‘m not afraid making each option :)

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 8 dny

      A Fusion Drive is a combination of a traditional hard disk drive and a flash drive. The key difference between Fusion Drive and SSD is the performance speed. Though Fusion Drive uses SSD to load frequently accessed files, which makes the overall speed of the drive faster than that of a traditional hard drive, it still cannot match the performance level of a pure SSD.

Their help page lists for a mechanical SSD failure that you get a 20% discount through DriveSavers, but nothing through the manufacturer. Hi there, You will want to make sure your data is backed up and disable FileVault if the drive is encrypted just to make sure there's no complications when trying to format the new drive!

      We do not recommend using something other than the adhesive strips that are provided for this installation.

    Is it a reason you didn’t replace the ram from the back of the imac where you push the button and there is a slot that comes off instead of taking screen off the long way? Not being smart just asking from others I seen, or is the 27 inch and 21 inch ram replacers different?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 23 dny

      Hey Doffy, That is a great question, and many have wondered the same. Unfortunately, since 2012, Apple decided to design the 21.5" iMacs without a back door for RAM upgrades. This means the only way to upgrade the RAM in the 2012 and later 21.5" iMacs is through a more involved process that requires opening the machine.

    Certifying 4Bay 6TB each is taking forever is this process important? It’s been 3 days since started

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc Před 26 dny

      This is an important step of the process for the drives. It takes roughly 3 hours for every TB that you are certifying. We apologize for the inconvenience.
