ELO holds the US record for most top 40 hits without ever hitting # 1. They're kind of in their own category because nobody sounds like them. Deep the rabbit hole guys .
Jeff Lynne is a writing and producing genius. As he crafts a tune, he slowly builds, adds, deletes, and rearranges. And that O "orchestra" is always there in the mix. Just one amazing talent.
ELO is Jeffrey Lynne's creation. A musical genius and highly respected in the music world. His friends included George Harrison, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and others. ELO has a huge catalogue of great songs. A unique band for sure.
@@raymondbonington9355 Yes, you are correct. In fact ELO was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 with members listed as Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, Bev Bevan and Richard Tandy. However, since Wood's departure in 1972 the band became identified with Jeff Lynne. I think it is safe to say that ELO's huge success since 1972 can be attributed to Lynne. He IS ELO.
@@chadheckman2693 I’m getting on as I saw them in 1972 at Hornsey town hall London , they even came on late as they had doing top of the pops with the moves last hit California man ( cheap trick love Elo and the move ) 👍
@@raymondbonington9355 Me too. I saw them in 1978 for the Out of the Blue tour in Kansas City and again in 1981 for the Time tour in Denver. Excellent concerts.
Theatrical is a great word for it. When I sit and listen through one of their albums in headphones, it's like they're taking me on a journey. Eldorado, A New World Record, Face the Music, and Out of the Blue are all solid albums. If you want to hear them really doing their thing by bringing together rock and classical, I recommend "Boy Blue" or "Rockaria."
I like Rockaria! off the out of the blue album. Mainly because my best friend's wife was pregnant during that time and I used to sit around and sing it with her during the day while he was at work and then he would come and watch her at night. '70s friends who are still around today! Peace!
ELO was one of the bands in the 70’s whose music dominated the airwaves… no one before or after them sounds anything like them! Jeff Lynne is an absolute genius, I’ve seen them live and they reproduce their sound exactly as what was done in the studio, absolutely ridiculous!
I agree ❗ Lots of REACTORS I've stumbled upon really don't LISTEN to the instrumentation like these 2 do. They are spot on. Hope they stay on CZcams. 🎵🎵🎵
I swear, ELO was next-generation BEATLES! One can almost HEAR Lennon & McCartney in the music. The orchestra concept was BRILLIANT. Thanks for your reaction.
Jeff Lynne (who is from my home city of Birmingham, UK) is a musical genius and great producer. E.L.O. have loads of fantastic songs and they sound just as good live as they do on the studio versions. They were still touring just before the pandemic and although Jeff is 76 now and still sounds the same. I love all their songs but one of my favourites is 'All Over The World' which just makes you want to sing and dance.
CHEERS to Bev Bevan (drums) who kept the Orchestra running on time & as you`ll read ELO had a lot for the ear to enjoy and when you went to the show it was more love.. Pick up the telephone line ELO has more SO keep on Rockin & giddyup Airplay Beats
I remember seeing them in concert around 1978. Their stage set looked like the ELO spaceship logo, and it opened slowly with bright lights inside as "Fire On High" played. Very dramatic. :)
@@reddoxx4754 I saw them twice. In '75 and maybe '78. I don't remember much of those days but the first concert was outdoors and the laser lights bounced off the cello and hit the stars in the sky. Very cool.
One of their best, the melody sounds as old as the hills. The album its taken from "New World Record" is so strong. Have you done "Tightrope" and/or "Telephone Line"? You owe it to yourselves!
I've loved these guys since my 70s childhood and finally got to see them in 2019. Played with Dhani Harrison, who sounds just like his dad; he sang his dad's part along with Jeff on the song Handle With Care. Great band and nice review guys. Have a great holiday everyone 🙂
If you like the innovation and quirkyness of Living Thing, you'll love Mr. Blue Sky. It is one of ELO's masterpieces. For the live version I recommend the "BBC Children In Need Rocks 2013" version. Great reaction--I can't always predict what songs you'll get into, and it was fun seeing you enjoy this one. All the best.
ELO started with classic orchestra; musicians. They played in their own tuxedos. Not so young, they earned their chops and pluck their strings from bass to violins! They pulled sounds out most people never heard before. I found their second album with Roll Over B-man and On The Third in discount racks I could afford and a year later they were all over the radio. Fun to be first on my block!
Thank you for an intelligent, knowledgeable reaction. Have to say having watched many reactions over the years, i find your channel one of the very best. I know your big Beatles fans, Jeff Lynne is referred to as the fifth Beatle. Paul MacCartney chose Jeff Lynne to produce the "lost" songs of the Beatles . John Lennon allegedly said that ELO emulated the sound that The Beatles would have had if they had continued into the 1970's. During the Beatles Anthology sessions, the remaining Beatles enlisted Jeff Lynne as the producer of these recording sessions over their producer from back in the day, George Martin.
Ok ---- you guys keep stumbling into my childhood --- it's kind of eerie 😂. This was the first album I ever bought with my own money. There are a couple recent concert docs of ELO (entitled 'Jeff Lynne w ELO'). Both drew over 100,000 fans (maybe 200k in Hyde Park). Anyway, they had a ton of great records. Try 'Telephone Line' next, if you want a little more soul --- who doesnt like soul? 😂 So glad you guys are following this group! Love the breadth of your curiosity and feel for music. Best Always, Mike & Shawn in WI. Go Lions!
My first 45rpm was given to me as a gift when we went to a radio station on a field trip in 6th grade front side Band on the Run, flip side was Just another Day. First Lp I bought with my own money was Paul McCartney and Wings 'Venus and Mars'. I still have it but listen to it on CD. I know all the lyrics to all the songs. I had never heard of the Beatles, but owe my discovery of rock music to Paul. That said I have a lot of ELO from hearing them first around 1979
Now you're on to something! Jeff Lynne amazing singer songwriter arranger producer. Formed a band with George Harrison in the 90s called the Traveling Wilburys. Even produced the three remaining Beatles in 1995.
Oh, that's the band Jeff Lynne is from! When I watched the video of While My Guitar Gently Weeps from 2004 with Tom Petty, George Harrison's son, Prince, and Jeff Lynne, I actually thought Jeff was the highlight (next to Prince's guitar solo). I loved the way he sang that song.
God bless you for listening to others music and finding talent when you do. I love so many types of music myself. My man said, my ears are hearing a lot of things going on. Jeff would like that you said, that. He plays like 14 instruments and said, I want to share an entire package. He is not only a brilliant musician, he wrote almost everything. Check this out…..Paul McCartney asked him to produce the last Beatles album. Check it out. Great catch on a master of sound and instruments.
When I first heard this back in the 70s while I was at work I thought it was George Harrison singing. About 10 years later they began working together on several projects.
For me it’s about human emotions. Love sadness loss /// it’s a living thing. it’s a terrible thing to lose Not just love but anything that comes from love A very deep song for me
Geoff Lynne, the main man of ELO was a massive beatles fan. He was in the travelling Wilburys with George etc but when George passed he arranged the concert for George at the Royal albert hall with all the greats! I got into ELO in later life, but check out Evil Woman or Last Train to London. Great tunes! Keep up the good work guys!
Such a great band. I use to listen to them a lot back in high school. Haven't in a while. And I probably wouldn't have either if y'all didn't do it. My friend (RIP) was the vocalist in a rock band back in the 90s that had a hit song you would enjoy. I think it may have reached #1 on the charts. The song was Peace Pipe and the band is Cry of Love. It's from their album Brother, which has a lot of great songs on it. Another friend of mine produced the album.
I am so glad that you guys are reacting to ELO, I know how much you both appreciate the musicianship, complexity, and production of Steely Dan, I felt like you would also appreciate ELO. I would recommend Shangri-La, Tightrope, or Telephone Line next. Thanks!
Got to disagree with you. This album has the greatest ever intro, Tightrope and the greatest ever outro on the closing song Shangri-la. Pretty much every song in between is fantastic too.🤷😁
Ok. You got me! Lol It is a great album. Like I said, I bought it when it first came out and I've been enjoying it for over 45 years. While there are some wonderful songs on it, I just meant there's no "Close To The Edge" or "Stairway To Heaven" on it. It's just a solid, all around excellent album. But the most famous track, "Telephone Line", is my least favorite. To partially redeem myself I'm listening the cd in it's entirety as I write this! Cheers!
