    Vintage is such an honest format. "Well there's no Wincon in play so I'm not actually dead but you just drew a bunch of cards so I'm basically dead. Guess I better concede."

    • @Cthuski
      @Cthuski Před měsícem +10

      When the opponent has 20+cards in hand and the ability to generate 20+mana in a format where the best tutors card draw and combos exist its safe to assume you are dead at that point. Only reason not to just save yourself and your opponent some time is if you aren't exactly sure how to sideboard yet

    One of my favorite archetypes, always love the vintage gameplay. Definitely looking like Lurrus is a bit too restrictive to what you can viable do right now unfortunately. Amazing limited/cube card, probably the biggest constructed mistake ever.

      @@399pi Dream Fracture's draw is mandatory, but three mana seems like too much for vintage/legacy interaction despite the card draw

    I'm definitely on the ban lurrus and restrict saga train.
    I feel like saga at 4of makes a lot of combos way too consistent and inevitable, while also making gigantic constructs, and lurrus is just... too restricting on what you can do in the format.

  • @nielsmarckmann3897

    In R3G1, if you were gonna concede anyway, wasn't it technically correct to Ancestral the opponent before probing them, just to see three more cards from their deck?

    Hey. I’m not the most experienced with Lurrus. Other than using it as a companion - is there an instance where a player would run multiple lurrus’s that’s pragmatic to gameplay? I came after the era of its height of use. I haven’t found many deck builds online to reference either. Just wonder. Thanks.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  Před 2 dny

      Yeah I've seen grindy white weenie/death&taxes style decks that experimented with 3-4 lurrus main just as a card in the deck. The fact we haven't seen anything like that in a few years indicates it's probably not good enough, but it has been explored at least a little.

    • @ETTT5072
      @ETTT5072 Před 2 dny

      There is a rakdos build with lightning skelemental spiced with dreadhorde archanist, multiple lurrus’s, and arena of glory, a few friends and my self brewed up. Unfortunately it is not very legal and agro/blitz-ish and just a fun piece for free format table. Thats as far as we got. Thank you for your insight.

    at 9:43, is there an argument to be made for playing the Lotus first, to maybe give opp less info about whether or not they should be countering it? It feels like they're less likely to counter if they don't know you have enough to get Lurrus AND cast it. Just asking for curiosity and my own learning. I have zero Vintage experience 🤷‍♀️

  • @stormsand9
    @stormsand9 Před měsícem +2

    I would have kept that first hand in game 5 round 1, Sure it had no counters and only 1 mana source, but manifold key and timevault in hand? *chef's kiss*

    • @TheoryTechDotDek
      @TheoryTechDotDek Před měsícem +1

      Having only force for protection and no acceleration is kinda eh. Plus he'd have to play key out first, which tells the opponent they have to counter vault. One advantage of vault key as a combo is often an opponent won't counter the time vault since it does nothing on its own, then you use saga to get key without giving them a chance to counter.
      All in all, I think that kind of hand is a trap. It looks good, and maybe if you know the opponents deck it's a strong keep, but it's too weak to too many things.

    15:00 OP Conceded, but how were we killing through protection? I assume we find the By Force and take ops infinite turns off the table, and then pass with multiple forces?

    • @paperskate654
      @paperskate654 Před měsícem +1

      Yeah although he needs to pass one more of opp's turns he can draw nearly his entire deck, stop op's combo, get into a position where it is impossible to lose, then win with lurrus beats + infinite turns or brainfreeze

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  Před měsícem +2

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  Před měsícem +1

      Nah you don’t need that. You have 3 different combos plus saga beats and a bunch of counterspells. Unless you’re under a lot of pressure and put in a specific situation, Oracle doesn’t necessarily fix any problems.

      Until Oath becomes less of a deck, Dress Down will continue to hold that deck slot, it's just too efficient an answer for Vintage to not be played

  • @TheoryTechDotDek
    @TheoryTechDotDek Před měsícem +1

    Not trying to backseat, and obviously you won the match, but I wonder if you were overvaluing construct tokens a bit too much against a deck with 4x dress down, especially after walking into the first one.
    Again, you obviously won anyway, I just feel like saga tokens aren't as powerful in vintage the way they can be in legacy.

    I disagree with the first opponent's second concession. They don't know what your win con is, they have protection from everything you can target them with, and they win if you pass the turn. I would've made you win that tbh.
