    Any younger NBA fans who wanna know why Duncan is top 10 all time, this is a good game to watch. Especially how he completely outclassed (a close to prime) Shaq with his insane footwork, dropping 37 on him.

      The problem with you is you're no different from the younger nba fans, you're just older. People stay looking at Accolades and falling for that half truth instead of the full truth. Kevin Garnett was always the better PF. He just didn't have the proper supporting cast. If he had he'd be up there with Tim Duncan, if not better. He was unguardable from the paint and the mid range. Not to mention a better tenacious defender and more importantly, a better free-throw shooter than both, Tim Duncan and Shaq. The Lakers won against the T.Wolves because KG didn't have the supporting cast unlike the Spurs. But in the game's, they had no answer for Kevin Garnett, who was truly the best power forward.

      @@younglove3362 Duncan has better career per game stats than Garnett in almost every category, more pts, more rebounds, better eFG%, more FTs made, more blocks. Garnett shot a better FT% and had more steals, that's about it. I do agree he was a better defender, but he wasn't the offensive player that Duncan was. He was a true PF though, Duncan is really more of a center in my mind at least.

    I remember watching this game and laughing at how Tim Duncan killed the Lakers softly with them bank shots and there was nothing they could do. Tim's performance proved you don't have to drop 50 pts to have the same impact of dropping 50 pts.

      He could had that kind of a series because the Lkaers didn't have a PF that could match him, Horry was a 6'8 that was more like a SF. Shaq was ver busy with D. Robinson. If Dunca would have to deal with Shaq the entire series then it would have been a different story from his performance stand point.

    7:17 That pass by Ginobili is filthy. He set Shaq up on the angle and then had a nice easy pass under the rim for the D-Rob dunk. And this 15:50 is an all-time sick move.

      Oldest trick in the book. Drive in hard, draw the double team, then kick it out to the open man that drew off on you. Especially effective against shot blockers like pf's and centers who want to send it. Ginobili was also a lethal finisher, which mad him dangerous because you had to close in on him if he blew past his man. It's really not special, it's simple.

    The dynasty the spurs had is the finest work of team work I've ever seen in my life and probably will ever see in my life. They were God's at finding the open man.       Tim Duncan is rated. The team built around him was strong and they had the best coach. The championship were either the Spurs, the Mavericks, or the Lakers. Once we, or should I say y'all, the Spurs won against the Lakers everyone knew they'd win the championship. No one was even thinking about the East.

      @@younglove3362 in 2003, Robinson is old and Parker is a sophomore, and Manu is a rookie so no. Duncan is incredible plus you forgot that Phil Jackson is a coach in that series and had way more experience than Pop at that time, so coaching is not the problem.
      Just that Duncan is like Hakeem prototype modern big who can score in the paint, pass ( very important) , handles the ball, defend and score in the ( perimeter) midrange .
      Basically Jokic and Embiid are based on these 2. and Giannis mentality is Duncan-like

Manu came out the gates, Robinson was old but a veteran presence, Parker wasn't a super star but a damn good role player, pop was always a better coach than Phil, just didn't have as good a team. Bowen was shooting lights out, especially against the Lakers. Stop with the excuses ✋️. Duncan was utilized correctly in the aspect of needing to be double teamed like Shaq. If anything, Kevin Garnett was a bigger threat than Duncan if you had seen the first round of the Lakers where they couldn't even triple team his fade away shot. They won because he didn't have as good a line up as the Spurs. Once again, Stop! Kerr even came through big on this team.
      P.S. I know Duncan is a great big man but don't compare him to Hakeem. Two completely different levels where Duncan is inferior.

    It's June 2022. This is the 1st time I have ever seen any highlights for this game since seeing it on live TV in 2003. It was too painful back then. This could have been the Lakers closing out the Spurs, but Horry missed a game winning 3 in Game 5. I knew back then that the Spurs were the better team. Lakers bench of Slava, Pargo, and Madsen wasn't going to cut it. Spurs had Steven Jackson, Manu, and a young Tony Parker. I'm surprise how active Shaq is on defense in this game. Lakers was not an easy out, but Tim Duncan was on a mission.

      That's because not everyone could shoot like that and it was mostly centered around slashers and big men. Players like Ray Allen, Pierce, and others were anomalies, especially Dirk Nowitzki, and even Robert Horry. You have Tim Thompson, David Westley, Peja Stojakovic, and Raef LaFrantz that could also shoot. Now, if you can't shoot the three you're barely eligible to play, even as a big man.

    Pop knew the kind of steal both Manu and TP were. This was rookie year for Ginóbili. Spurs bench was way too deep. Already vets Steve Kerr, Danny Ferry and Kevin Willis. Malik Rose and Speedy Claxton. Add them "rookie" (he was already the best player in Europe) Ginóbili and you can tell it all depended on the Spurs. Suns, Lakers, Mavs and Nets had no chance.

    This spurs team in their prime can defeat any nba teams today. Even gsw or big 3 of miami lebron, wade and bosh. They have many good players like twin tower, parker, bowen, manu and many great bench players. Even kobe and shaq can do nothing in their line-up.

    I remember going to put the game on expecting the Lakers to be ahead (it was 4th quarter when I was able to turn it on after just getting home) and to my surprise the Spurs were killing them. Now watching the highlights almost 20 years later, I see how Duncan calmly and smoothly beat the Lakers. And everyone else said it right, he did it almost effortlessly. He made it look so easy.

    I grew up in San Antonio and every year I knew the road to the championship was through LA. This rivalry was truly one of the best in NBA history so much respect for lakers. Even though I'm a proud spurs fan I would wear a Kobe Bryant jersey out of sheer respect!

    I love and miss Kobe Bryant. Also the first season since chick Hearn died. Also this would be the final season for David Robinson. The lakers would reach the finals in 2004 as the heavy favorites over the upstart Detroit Pistons.

    What the hell was Shaq doing at 13:00 ??? He had no reason to move away from the basket after contesting Duncan's shot....and a lack of box out or even just standing there taking up space led directly to 2 points.     I remember watching this and I couldn't believe that somebody was actually beating Kobe n Shaq in a series. Even though Spurs were the better team it still felt surreal. KobenShaq were just that dominant.

      Don't know what you're talking about. Lakers had a better lineup up consisting of Shaq, Kobe, and shooter's but the Spurs had a better system around Tim Duncan, especially since it was being run by PoP, who has always been a better coach than Phil. I saw this win coming since the year prior when the Spurs were giving the Lakers a run for their Money and getting accustomed to playing them.

      @@younglove3362 Nah there wasn't much of an offense system then. The difference was the Spurs had fresher legs from younger blood. Compared to the year before, they added two perimeter two-way rotation players in Jackson (who redshirted the previous year) and Ginobili, which turned their perennial weakness at the 2-guard position into a strength. I wished Jackson had stayed long-term. With him that team would've three-peated.

    Tim Duncan was a better overall player than Shaq or Kobe, there I said it. This coming from a kid who shed blood, sweat and tears proudly on the court in my Kobe jerseys and sneakers growin up. I love Kobe, he's my childhood hero.
    Prime Timmy was just on another level when you watched him play in the playoffs, though. He's the best PF all-time and arguably as high as 3rd-best big man all-time. Averaging 20 and 10 for your career when you played in the depressed scoring era, whilst managing to be the defensive and offensive anchor of a dynastic team is insanely impressive.
    What a treat to have watched many of these classic battles growing up. These Spurs Lakers clashes of the 2000s had 3 of the top-10 players all-time in them.
