hey, thanks for this video! I am currently learning asl and I am picking sign names for my housemate and others. my housemate's name is Romi and they are an artist, one of the things they enjoy is painting. can I use the letter "R" and move it across my non dominant hand like "small brush" (art not wall) as their name? would that be senseless?
I know culturally I'm not supposed to do this but I have a neurogical disability and I am going to be in asl class / signing with ppl very soon. I dont have the capacity- hand enduranance to spell out peoples names constantly if I am referencing them. however we don't have any deaf people in our friend circle. I dont really know what else to do here. any advice? I dont want to be disrespectful to the asl culture or to my own body.
Hi hi dear, for picking a name Sign it is depending until some approve the name sign. If you are really interested in art stuff. You can choose R with a painting. Just remember, if someone approves that can make an agreement also you can ask the professor.
Yes, absolutely correct. Try not to be ruining our culture. This is where you must ask Deaf people around. Sometimes the professor will approve or change a little bit depending how they do it.
