Crank up the speakers and sit back while videographer Chris "Butch" Horn brings you the action of the nearly 70 cackle cars at the event hosted by Irwindale Dragway. - Zábava
I always love the cacklefests! I'm 68 & the first few years I attended the U.S.NATIONALS,all the rails were front engines! I know the rear engines are much safer, but there's something about the front engine rails that, for me,just look cooler! Also the old AA/F altered! Ol' Wild Willy in the Pure Hell, those were some great days!❤😎👍
The front engine cars present the engine in all it's glory, from the crank pulley up to the blower and injector hat. The block, heads... it's a massive engine driving the big rear tires, with a delicate, spindly frame and front suspension - barely enough to steer the car and keep it pointed in the right direction. It has one job; to accelerate from a standing start to over 200 MPH, as quickly as possible, all the while while dancing with chaos, lightning and thunder!
Mike Kuhl made some fine blowers. His hard work and innovation will always live on.
👍👍
There's something very unique about the exhaust note a 392 on Nitro makes when the throttle gets whacked. No other engine has that sound. It develops this deep tone when it's whacked wide open. Love the old slingshot dragster.
These were Kings of the sport when I started getting into drag racing. Some wonderful memories watching these things tear up the quarter mile.
The slingshot with the second generation Hemi and the orangeblower hat, every time he revved it, it looked like it jumped off the ground lol Love it!!!
RIP MIKE KUHL! Bobby this was one INCREDIBLE event!! @1:35 looking good Rob! I was there for 3 days and my life will never be the same!! BADASS!!! Thanks for sharing this video. The line of fire was beyond awesome
Beautiful....simply beautiful 😎. Reminds me of my first time at Irwindale...1964....8 TF and 8 AA/FA as headliners. Hooked me then, and never let go!!
A time that can ever be duplicated. Where did the time go? 60's and 70's, even though there was turmoil in the world, were the best time this country will ever see.
Listening to these cars in person in the early sixties is probably the most exhilarating thing I ever experienced with my pants on.
Very Very Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely Awesome ! Thank you for bringing it to us
Oh yea!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old School AMERICA at its finest!! 😎🇺🇸
Absolute music...
Nitro heaven!!!! 🙌🏾😍
Nice to see the Ridge Route Terrors car out there,, James Warren one of the top drivers of all time,,,
Heaven.
That is a feast for all six senses (⁶ being imagination). Thank you!
That was great. Wanted to see more of the Surfers recreation.
I would like to give special recognition to Bill Pitts with the Magicar, and Bob Higginson for his recreation of the Surfers car. Pure art! Most of all, my sympathies to Mike Kuhl's family and friends. RIP Mike.
Awesome
Let that nitro sing!
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!
MUSIC TO MY EARS
This is better than the Fourth of July
Awesome, I loved it!
This was when Men were Men and all rules were out the window, Nothing like a Slingshot or Fiat altered, they weren't as fast as today's cars it was the elements of DANGER ! BADASS👍
Hell yeah 💯
2kooooooolsvillllle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful race cars---
So good. One suggestion - please show the car name/partnership that is on the body ahead of the motor. I saw a few that the car looked familiar but I wasn't certain so it could be nice for us oldsters to identify the car. It looked like the Weekly-Rivero-Fox and Holding car was there but not sure because it had a different blower scoop. Just askin....
I really miss the days on cars spitting flames at idle as they were backing up from the burnouts.
Sweet!
And not a dry eye for 50 yards.
Sure beats keeping them in a museum doing nothing, let 'em roar guys and gals!
Oh no the twin engine ran out of fuel faster for some reason!
So badass its stupid
Lol my thoughts EXACTLY!!
Ian, Thank you for the very badness reply.....I made this video to honor my friends that just happen to be legends and have past before us.
I really wish the sanctioning bodies would allow them to at least do a burnout, or burnouts also, event - just like 100 feet of smoke or so! I understand they dont want them going at high speeds with the antique suspensions and lack of all the modern safety improvements - but get up to 60mph in a burnout PLEASE PLEASE!! Theyve all got enough rollcage to survive a 60mph mishap at least.
1000,000,000,000,000 THAN THE HOT ROD REUNION, YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER ARE THE BEST----MAYBE YOU COULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT ( YOU PROBABLY WOULD WIN)
