- How to beach a boat? Check this video where we did that with our sailboat (a monohull with a lifting centerboard) on the Brazilian coast.
We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? I had a boat with a swing keel and a raisable rudder. It was great for exploring. You could pull up to an island and actually beach it. It only draws 17 in with the keel up. Exploring is always fun!
Also it's so nice to see Roberta thriving as a liverboard sailboat owner. 💨⛵🌞
This video proved without a doubt that Roberta is the best possible sailing partner you could hope for. I was laughing when Duca was filming Roberta digging out the anchor and he didn't offer to help and she didn't complain. The whole episode was Amazing. Nice editing as always.

Awesome guys! Love the centre board.
My last full keel boat, had spots on the hull that you could attach beaching poles, keel sit in the sand/mud and two adjustable poles connect to the side and stabilize the boat. Odd is still looking good and performing well......I think she is a keeper.....

Loved watching your dream awakened! Have great memories from 25 ft boat with centerboard, but have never beached with the tide. You are tuned to nature when you have the ability plan an experience like that. You and your helpmate seem very authentic. Hard-to-lee! 22:27

Hey Duca, This is one time that I "almost" wish that I was 27 years old and not 87 Years old so I could try Boarding behind your dingy on a board with a fin foil and sailing that big parachute on a little board and flying all over the place while doing gymnastics. You look so great and so competent. Great fun. enjoy for me.
Wow what a boat!! Y’all’s boat is set up perfect. Every system, the layout, everything. So awesome. I’m on a Catalina 38 here in the San Fransisco Bay Area and love it. My next boat with defenintely be something similar to the fortress y’all have. Such a strong boat with every detail and system dialed in. Amazing! Wounder how she sails? Pretty quick aye? And you can beach her and not worry about hitting a floating log or shipping container or anything. This boat with land and a shipping container house is the dream. Y’all are livin it. Love it y’all. Hella stoked!

I've had an interest of getting into sailing, being I love anything water (work on a barge, have a float plane and kayaks), but I seriously had no idea there were retractable keel boats, like a retractable skeg on my kayak. So cool.

It appears to be a huge advantage to have a steel hull center board boat with a drop down rudder for hull cleaning and maintenance. Good work you two.
Hehe. I’m the one that doesn’t want to try kiting, hehe. Too much to think about (arms, legs, wind, 25 meter of lines) and it can be dangerous.

This is what I intend to do with my Trimaran. Good work. Get a long handled Garden trough for scraping. So much easier.
☺️ as it’s a metal boat the scraper neededs to be made out of stainless steel and have the edges rounded. In Brazil we couldn’t find bigger scraper made out of stainless steell

So awesome 😀👍🏽 I'm in New Zealand south Island our water is mostly cold in Summer it's not to bad, up north it's warmer, I got to get another wetsuit for surfing, when I was in Australia the water is warm over there even in winter in Queens land but dangerous as I found out the hard way, got stung by box jellyfish not very nice lucky to still be here 😀👍🏽🤙 thanks for us to watch your journey 😀🙏👏🤙 we used to have a couple at the end of the year they would sail from South Island to north they would stop off at a place and when the tide was out they could walk to land and top up on things and wait until tide was up to sail out again but they had a catamaran was good to see them do that, but that was year's ago so it doesn't happen any more . Looking forward to more adventures 😀👍🏽
