Don't Force Creativity. Make Creativity. Best line :)
Thanks dude!
Allen Abesamis So don't be! :) As he said, just be yourself. I know a few CZcamsrs that their channel is not about being funny at all. There is room for all sort of moods dude haha!
Sorry, Harshil, as a professional writer, one is always forcing creativity. It's a romantic fallacy that one has to be in the mood to be creative. Frankly, some of my best work has come from working my way through the blockage. That being written, it's also true that inspiration can come from many ways and no one way is correct, but frankly, I'm most satisfied when I find the discipline to slog my way back into a creative space.
!!!! “”””
Great post and I generally agree, but I would like to add a few things. First of all, the 'real you' on CZcams is still a character. It might be similar but it is an exaggeration because video requires energy transfer through the lens to the imaging chip. Some people have that 'royal jelly' and are naturally charismatic, but most of us are not. But familiarity can breed a bit of that charisma thing. It is still a performance. Peter McKinnon has a highly exaggerated, fake naturalism. He's acting. I'm doing comedy, so that's a different kind of performance. It's also easier to vlog and be moving on a bike or a boosted board rather than walking through crowds. Casey uses his boosted board as a protective bubble while at the same time attracting more attention in a trademark way. It's quite brilliant. My recommendation is to find a character that you can get lost in that lets you cut out the noise around you. Treat is a performance that you are doing for CZcams fans and the people around you. Wade into a crowd! Yell at your rig, have fun, let people be part of your party. People are much nicer when they think you are performing rather than thinking, "look at that asshole talking into that fuzzy thing." Granted, it's a hard thing to overcome but rewarding when you can do it.
"They're just curious about what your filming" This is the biggest take away for me from the video. So many times I've thought "are they judging me? Am I being weird or creepy?" when in reality, it's nothing like that. I've noticed people look at me the same way when filming B-roll and never gave it a second thought, why bother giving a second thought to people looking when I'm filming myself?
That's so true man. As a filmmaker you never give a damn when people stare at you while capturing your stuff outside. At least to me, it even empowers me haha I feel I'm doing something interesting enough to make people interested. Should feel the exact same way when vlogging.
Thx for pointing this out!!
Best tip: people want to know what you’re feeling while you are where you are or doing what you’re doing. Also good to know everyone started out shy first too.
I'm still getting used to talking to the camera, but keeping in mind that people are just curious not judging me, it's an amazing way to look at it! Thank you!
Dude I love the channel, and I think you’re always dropping great knowledge in your videos, but definitely wear a helmet on the bike! You gotta protect ya noggin!
It really gives me hope that people other than me didn't just start off feeling comfortable on camera right out of the gate. Great content and info bro!
This video is stupendous. That concept of worrying what random strangers think is very real and something that personally holds me back...but NO MORE! Thanks for the great advice! Inspiring.
you really do make helpful and encouraging videos. i almost hesitated to watch your stuff because i could see that you have better hair than I do. but you also have better knowledge than I do. keep it up. i am subbed!
That’s what I do all the time. Even a short bike ride during rendering or half-way through editing do wonders. 😁
Your analogies are always on point!
Possibly some of the best advice I've heard so far. Really appreciate the tips!
Thank you so much for talking about this Zach. This is inspiring.
Zach bro keep doing you man. Dont even worry about it your killing it my mahn. We all in that same path of getting used to the camera. It will take time but as with anything just follow your passions and trust the process
Loving your videos, Zach!
So I just discovered you and wow. I love this so much. I subscribed in the first 30 seconds wow your cinematography skills are fantastic! Love your channel, love your message, love everything about you, thanks for this!
You're videos are always so awesome to watch. You're a great cinematographer!
Love what you are doing with your videos
Hey Zach great video , i love your simple transitions and you come across super clear. Have a great weekend. G
Solid advice. Great content. Well done Zach. So helpful!!!
Thank you much for this Zach!
This was a sick video! Loved the transitions! Brilliant bro!
Very helpful man😍
This is very helpful, thanks. Love your vids.
Awesome video man. Thanks so much! I got a job offer the other day where they want me to become a vlogger for the company so I’m super stoked. I was sort of unsure as to how to talk to the camera but I guess you just have to be yourself. Thanks again for the advice!!
Great video gave me a bunch of inspiration !
Good job bro! Great energy.. very helpful
soooo good man...love this video... very inspirational.
solid advice brother! especially the fact that, most of the time, the people watching aren't hating, they're just curious ;) always enjoy your vids
Great episode man. Really struck a cord with me and how I feel when out talking to the camera. I was out with my best mate filming over the weekend and I still felt a little awkward. But him being such a good mate grabbed the camera and started filming me for me. And gave me a few ideas on how I’m presenting myself on camera.
So I’d add to you’re list and say surround yourself with ppl who prop you up not bring you down.
Great work bud. Thanks heaps
Great video bro! Thanks for sharing!
Great vid and tips!! I love the tip to get out in nature to get inspired instead of trying to force creativity into editing. Thx!!
That was a great guide, thanks Zach.
Great tips as always!
love the tips !
Great video zach Cheers mate
Thanks for your tips... I will keep improving myself! Yeahh!!

So surprised you only have 39k subscribers! I'm sure you'll blow up soon. Great content, awesome color grading. Subbed!
Thanks for the advice! I have been wanting to vlog and share about my life to others who can relate with my experiences and haven't been able to pull out my camera and start recording as I was afraid of people judging me but this video was really insightful and now i am more confident in what i want to do :)
Thanks for sharing. I went to hang out with some friends yesterday and I felt so nervous to vlog. I feel like this realĺy helped
Damn man your videos are really great, and helpful. Thanks for all you do!
love this, thanks so much for this, 2020, still good 💯
Keep up with the engaging content Zach!
thank you for making this video. I want so much to do vlogging but have a problem with speaking on camera. But after watching this video I am really motivated
One of the best video I watched about Vlogging. 👍 No technical rambling but useful info about the feeling and the message, great!! I just subbed. 😊 For sure, enthusiasm, being communicative, sharing a message about what we love is really important.
I have a ton of feedback about my "bubbly personality", how they call it 😁 and the good vibes people get from my videos... I admit I an really proud if it. ☺️ I was not expecting being more comfortable on camera so quickly (especially at home of course, but that's a good start!!) but I guess I am so thrilled to talk to people!!! 😝
Thanks for the vid, feel free to offer more content not on the tech side but about the vlogging approach, practice and mindset! 😊
Beautiful video man. You are a fantastic videographer ❤️😎👍
This was so helpful!
Thanks for the advice.
This helps so much. So so much.
This helps a lot. Thank you!
This could not come at a better time!!!
Actually my boyfriend sent me this video yesterday ‘cause I do the exact “second thing” and feel really uncomfortable filming with people around. I thing this video is very useful. Thank you 😌
So creative 📷
Thanks for the tips dude
Keep going mate!
Lots of great points in this, after almost 4 years of vlogging I would agree...know what you are going to say or talk about before you turn on the camera...nothing more awkward than watching someone hold a camera to their own face and be shy.
awesome tips man!
Thanks, Zach. I've done public vlogging a few times. After watching your post yesterday, today I was right out there amongst the public. Funny to see people scramble to escape the view of the camera! 😂
Thanks brother love you
i will always remember the first video i shoot and i dont know how often i filmed the first scene.. i JUST committed myself to start a Daily VLog for a year..and now i can say.. it is EASY to film yourself :))
JUST START
Great tips 👍. I am practicing but definitely need more 🤓
Great vid!
I sympathise with your subject matter because I feel as though I am awkward on camera but I love to make videos. What I've decided for the time-being is to keep the subject matter away from myself as I get more comfortable and then in later videos I may have more of a traditional vlog setup with more talking head portions.
Very good!
Thanks, that was sweet!
This is honestly so helpful. I really need to learn to do this as well as you do 😂
Great tips and insights..advice
Great Job!
Thankyou so fucking much, you don't know how much you've impacted me by this vid thanks alot❤️❤️
Thanks a Lot 🙌 awesome video
You just got a new sub. Thank you for the info this was good
This video deserves one million views!
Thanks brooo.. i love ur talking style
Thank you. 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for this video sir
Dude really good tips! One tip i would love to add is if you have any vlogger you look up to. And know he exact style, once you're in the location you're vlogging and know what topic you're gonna talk about. Just imagine how would the vlogger you look upto would do it. Then somehow you're gonna know where to put the camera and talk and how to talk and just do that at the beginning and slowly a few changes would come to it and you'll bring your own style! Good luck
your videos are creative enough my adhd self doesn’t have to watch in double time 👏🎬
I cringe watching my earlier videos😁I would find isolated parks with NOBODY around or I’d video in my house. 50+ videos in and I really don’t care lol. At first I talked to my camera. Now I relate to my friends through my camera!
When we started our channel last year, I hated talking on camera & was so nervous, now I’m ok, need improvement but getting there. 😂
Most usefull tips for vloging 💪😀
Cool epic what ever its dope 😲
Subscribing now. That rocks good advice
Thanks for the good information. I takes time to know how to speak to a camera in public.
For my intro's for my video's i always try to find a spot where i can make my intro, sometimes seeing people in the background to give the impression that i'm standing in the crowd.
I live in Belgium people still look at you not knowing what you are doing with that camera in your hand ...
But as you said, people take a look but don't stay standing, they have their own life to go on with ;-)
I love your picture profile. Which one do you use, outside and inside. Love 😍 your work. Big fan. Thank you.
Hey Zach love your content your a huge inspiration of mine! My recent video (creative hustle) was inspired by your video how to be original! Keep it up man your content is sickkkkkk
Keep up the good work brother!
great video mate and you are very personable. Subscribed :-)
Awesome editing man! Im one video #2 of your channel! #bingewatching lol
Awesome
Hi, thanks for this, question, you use a gimbal? or just rely on the IS of the Sony?
How are you liking that Sigma 24mm 1.4? I’m guess you are using the mc-11. Does that combo work well for you on your Sony body for video? Is the auto focusing solid? Great video. Nice tips to helping tidy up my videos. New sub.
Zach really thanks for the tips! I really want to vlog but I'm still trying to figure out what will be the content of my vlog! already few months now and with 0 video.
this gooood btw what camera you shot when you on bicycle ?
Fuck... this kid is awesome!! Really well done and informative!
See you next time ! Big 👍
Didn't even know you were from Toronto... New SUB!!!
