Watching BTS content like this made me realize one of the biggest errors I made on set on my recent short film was shooting the dark setting... in the dark. I realized in post that I could have lit it bright with a high contrast ratio on the background and then just tune it down in post to get a dark and moody look and prevent too much digital noise in the shadows. Watching this, the BTS shows how bright the set was but the final shots were dark and moody. Well, that's why it's important to practice the craft and actually MAKE stuff. You learn a little every time. I wish I watched more BTS like this before my shoot! But it's okay, the noise is at a fixable at the moment, it just limits how hard I can push the grade.
Good call man. You can bring down the brightness quite a bit. My best investment/upgrade for my camera was having a monitor that showed LUTS on it. That way I could see the final shot before taking it to the computer and making it too dark or too bright.
(Non camera guy here) Learn to read False Color if you haven't already, should help you a lot for exposure.
@Undercoverbat95what what has to do with Jesus
Made that mistake before... So I destroyed the video more to be intentionally textured due to noise pockets in darkness..
Stop using Bts name to promote your films 😡😡😡😡😡
"Bravo Darling... Bravo"
I am an Acting Teacher and I thought you did wonderfully...
#1) You didn't take yourself too seriously... leaving your EGO at the door, giving yourself permission to learn while teaching us.
#2) You had a GREAT Attitude
(that is everything, because once you get upset or mad... it is all downhill from there and makes for an even longer day.)
#3) You took the time to walk us through every step... and we got to laugh and learn along the way (Thank YOU for that).
#4) You allowed US to walk through your journey of discovery and mishaps and development of Success.
#5) Your wife (and if she is not your wife... she should be!) Was wonderful, supporting you and helping with your FX Makeup...
(I love doing FX Makeup...) especially scars.
#6) This video was short ... sweet... innovating... (not at all boring... THANK YOU).
EXCELLENT VIDEO...
You get an A+ from this Acting Teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to make this great video.
Cool
this is so sweet!
"Who also didn't win an Oscar this year" and just like that we are equals. Awesome video
This is what I’ve been doing for years, and seeing some one show that you really can do this alone, makes me feel better.
Special thanks to my man @MattAzzarello, who shot the cinematic behind-the-scenes. I promise he didn't help.. I did this solo... remember. Go give his channel some love!
I gave zero advice
😂@@POW.CREEPER
That was really amazing. As I was watching the final film I completely forgot it was done by ONE PERSON. I wish Zach and Paul E.T. would do something together. They're both outrageously talented!
this is better than most netflix films nowadays
You're a legend for making this. Thanks so much
No problem! Thank you!
the title is under the assumption that netflix makes very high level films.
Maybe visually… but the quality of an actual true, good, and beautiful story is an anomaly, unfortunately.
Some of them are though
@@MallettMotion…stranger things?
@@dollsie_lemon shows are more well done than movies but there is some films that are very good !!
@@dollsie_lemon Well I didn’t say _all_ films and TV shows were void of beauty, some are good, but it’s rare, at least from my own experience.
This is amazing! I love watching videos like these where you can really see the creativity and effort that went into the project
Got yourself a new subscriber that’s just starting to get into filmmaking
Your passion is inspiring. Great lighting and amazing composition. Well done all around.
LOVE IT!! The lighting transition played out smoothly.
I love everything. Music, lighting. Beautifully shot!
This is awesome! I've been waiting on this..I'll never forget that custom motorcycle helmet camera rig you made, still wanting to make one to film solo, but this helps so much 💎
Awesome video man! Very well put together and it turned out really cool for a solo!
Love how your videos are so informative.
Dude Zach this is INCREDIBLE!!
The lighting really made the set come alive and had the natural vibr of a horror movie. Doing it by yourself is even more incredible, great job! ❤
I really enjoyed the tutorial. The lighting and grading turned out really well. And the makeup.
Amazing work man! Bravo! Thank you for such an inspiration! You are a legend!
I love watching this *-* I love acting and since I was 9 years old I used to film myself doing small scenes, so seeing this in such a professional way makes me nostalgic and I kind of want to try to do it again haha seems fun
I have worked on several hollywood films with hundred million dollar budgets... Yes, it is what they do in the biz
You did a good job there buddy, some of those shots looked exquisite, well done!
Very, very cool. Thanks for the inspiration. I've been outlining a few short films to do alone. Seeing this makes it all seem easier than I make it out to be. Cheers. Subscribed.
High dose of inspiration, as always!
That was pretty awesome! Great result for a solo shoot. 👏👏👏
This is great mate. Well done
Great video man! I make most of my films solo, so this was super cool to watch. The short turned out awesome, too!
Using the monitor and control app will definitely be your friend with projects like this especial being able to set focus from the palm of your hand.
dAYUMMM That transition from normal light to red light looked cleannn
Oh WOW! I loved this!! I thought the sound was pretty cool too!!
love how you mind the smallest details
I do the acting, writing, editing, and filming myself too. I find it difficult to get the right look in the end, but I encourage everyone interested in filmmaking to start. I enjoy the challenge and the experience! I also appreciate this video, as it was very inspirational.
Hi Mr Zack! I'm SOO GLAD u "appeared" on my feed today!! ❤ ur work! In the past, I've
aged/dirtied shirts by dipping them into brewed tea. 😊
the sound design is sickk!!!
Absolutely insane man, not enough congrats in the world. So inspiring to get out there and shoot a short film
Aweeee shucks thanks Jordan
What a fantastic beauty! Loved every shot, Zach.
Maybe, would've composed some alien shadows movement on 17:38, easy to make. And will agressively attack with an axe on the last shot, but that's all on pure taste.
The entire red-light sequence is a masterpiece, bravo!
Thank you so much! Good idea too
very cool, like the choices you made when it comes to lighting, your acting was pretty good since you did not have any lines and all was facial expression and body language!!
I love this!
FANTASTIC!!
Dude you're very good. You've inspired me already ❤
I like the half human creature at the end. Chilling!
Love the challenge 🔥
That was amazing man, you got the skills to pay the bills :D
WOW!! This turned out amazing!!!!:D,
Amazing work! Truly inspiring for a fellow 1 man film crew
So inspiring man!
Love your stuff Zach. When you said to use an aperture of six or seven to have deeper focus, and then also talked about only needing a 60w light, and knowing you use a Sony fx3 with dual native ISO with the higher ISO being 12800, it makes sense that you can make something look great and color well. But what about people who don't have access to great lighting or that camera and its insane "see in the dark" capabilities?
Awesome video! Entertaining and informative
You are an honest man because you wanted to make this movie without the help of Jackie or the others. God bless you. About the final shot you needed a tomahawk hit sound effect with a scream of this creature to show that you killed it or started a fight with. Good luck with all your projects..
sweeet. keep inspiring and creating!
Always love your videos, Inspire me a lot
Thank you so much 😀
Bro 😮 this behind the scenes is awesome and your hardwork 🔥
Glad you like it!😸
That was legit. Really good insights here for beginners like me! Got my sub 💪🏼
So happy it helped
This was sick bro!!
amazing your so talented
That was great! That was very good acting... Show the film to anyone and they wouldn't know it was all done by one man army!
Very talented...Love it. I used the same faceless creature mask in my concept trailer.
PERFECT
So not only a great film but great BTS too! Really loved seeing this process Zach.
Awesome work!
Definitely makes me want to eventually try something like this out
I appreciate that!😁
@@MattAzzarello fancy seeing you here 🙃
@@pauljakeman I'm everyyyywheeeeere
@@MattAzzarello never a bad thing at all buddy! Added you on IG too now bro 😜
Great Work!
100 missed calls from netflix 🤣
Well done, bro!
And now create a series with your own, just kidding this is so beautiful!
Hi Zach, We made a movie, Slay Queen Movie, and i didnt have a budget, knowledge or as much resources as you do and i wish i saw this video before i shot my movie coz mine is 1 hour long and i struggled to make it as it is.. i appreciate the knowledge im getting from just watching your process
Great stuff Zach, properly inspiring. Thanks!
My pleasure! Hope you can take some stuff away from this!
As someone who aspires to be ANYTHING in the film buisness for their job, I love this kind of vid where they walk you through the process and you can be inspired for your own films. Your also just great at what you do and showing us that.
EDIT:You should try making a short film with your phone!
This is incredible! Only one thing bothered me the whole time... how clean the axe was.
This is sick man🤩🤩
Realy nice pice of art. Awesome video😉👁🎥📽
You’re The G Man!!:)).
Wonderful and Amazing video!! By the way, what app are yoou using to edit?
Good info , gives me ideas for my films 😊
Zach ❤
this is really good bro
RESPECT!
Great video ❤
Gotta love that ZK sticker on the monitor 🔥
Thank you for showing us this unique perspective of film! If you’re someone who loves acting, is it possible to direct and cast yourself in your own film if you have the budget rather than waiting for Hollywood to cast you for certain roles?
Try steel wool or wire brush for distressing your wardrobe next time.
Good idea! Much better than rubbing it in the dirt lol
@@ZachRamelan Deborah Landis drug Indiana Jones jacket around a parking lot with a truck to age it up, so you were on the right track.
This is impressive !
Make a video on "How to cover any scene" ?
Love this! Great idea!
This is an underrated channel. +1 sub ❤
Yooo!! What mic are you holding?
Great video! I was wondering if you could share the name of the gimbal you used in the video?
❤🔥
I had so much fun starting out and finding ways to shoot with just myself. Gaffetype becomes your best friend
OMG Tape saved my butt every 20 seconds on this shoot. lol!
watch bo burnham inside that is this essentially
not to discredit this ofc this is awesome
great vid, was interesting enough to watch all of! More than I can say about a lot of CZcamss lol. Very informative. Will a smoke machine set of fire detectors?
awesome
Which M60 are you using? There are a handful of options and I can't exactly sus out which is which.
Loved the video, the bts has inspired me 🙏 keep killing it man
Glad you like it!😆
Learn how to make movies like this through my course, the 4 week filmmaker! www.cinematicacademy.ca/
Wonderful video
So sick!
Thanks my man.
3:51 I love haze sometimes, but my asthma has killed the idea of using it at all. Do you know of any brands that are safe for asthmatics to work around?
This video is really well graded!
Thanks, man; it's really just a blue-orange lut with the contrast blasted on my footage.
@@ZachRamelan The lut holds up really well!
I like this bro
Im also interested in creating a film by myself also
I weather my clothes exactly the same. I also do the cardboard light thing lol.
