- A playthrough of Capcom's 1992 platformer for the Super NES, Magic Sword.
Played through on hard through all 50 (51?) stages without using any warps. I keep the lizardman as my partner for the entire game once I get him.
Magic Sword was a great game in the arcade - it looked and sounded really good, it threw a lot of action on the screen at once, and it didn't tend to eat TOO many quarters once you started to memorize which doors were traps and which had good bonuses behind them.
The SNES version is, of course, less hectic than the coin-op one - there are far fewer enemies on-screen at once, and the game does slowdown fairly frequently. Besides that, it is a pretty faithful conversion. It suffers from some of the same issues as Final Fight (most notably the second-player was axed), but it has more than enough variety to keep it interesting for just a single player. Because of the difference in speed and activity, though, what was already a fairly easy (for an arcade game) becomes just that much easier for the home version (again, like Final Fight!).
It's a high-quality port that makes concessions similar to most 16-bit games of its ilk, and just as good a port as any other that Capcom did for the SNES. If you like the idea of Gauntlet turned into a 2D platformer, this is an excellent choice. If not, well, try it anyway. It's really well put-together.
I included the bad ending at the very end of the video (when the final boss gives you an ultimatum, a la Streets of Rage).

No wonder Capcom was one of the best makers of SNES games. One of my favorites, Magic Sword.
cuando acabe ese juego por primera vez grite súper fuerte la emoción de haber pasado esa joya con dificultad enorme
Just played this game first time after watching this video that I found in my feed. Great game, really fun and pretty challenging. Kickass soundtrack too
This is a really well done port of a long-forgotten Capcom CPS1 arcade platformer - the music and graphics are particularly good, and the buddy system is a really neat twist.
It is! I poured so much money into the Magic Sword arcade game! I still LOVE it! Which reminds me; I should pick up the Capcom Classics Collection for my PS2 that has the arcade version. AFIK, there's no way you can play Magic Sword on the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, or PS3 or PS4.
Check out the PS3/360 Final Fight Double Impact game - it includes this game too!
Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Thanks!
Though like many earlier SNES games it does seem to suffer from an unfortunate amount of slowdown.
I chose the bad ending when played this on MAME long before I had internet access!
Amazing music, great graphics and the buddy system & upgrades are all great quality, not surprised Capcom baby!! Interesting
i liked the wizard companion best. whenever he activated that force field you could jump into it and be protected from attacks as well. ive used that force field to destroy bosses by hiding inside it and letting the boss run into it and get hurt
Cut down to 1 player, and certain elements changed or removed, but still a solid hack and slash from Capcom, back when Capcom could do no wrong.
The music itself took this game to an another level, not a game for a kid. it was dead serious.
sounds a lot better then the arcade from what i just heard before seeing this video
kind of like they recreated it with different instruments
@@ImaFnT-Rex The arcade sounds like it used FM bass. The SNES has it's own sound engine with it's own unique sound.
Man I forgot the name for this game, but I played the hell outta this game as a kid. Awesome video, thanks!
bro I played this when I was like 4 and once I found the game I just clicked a random part of the video to verify and 33:15. that's the exact part I remember as a kid, I fucking hated the damn flying snake thing boss I died to it every time. I don't think I ever actually got past the part
@@sadtoaster6341 same, as a kid that thing scared me. Honestly I thought i dreamt up this whole game in some fever dream, always had it on my mind for years but thought maybe I just had a creative imagination as a kid, but finally found out it was a real game!
The end credits music is so much better than the arcade version.
And then having it look like dusk at the end.
Too bad it was only single player.
Ahhh the memories ...20$ worth of quarters a blue rasberry Slurpee and my local 7/11 man that was a good memory almost beat this game that day
Worth it 😎
@@DieEineMieze oh yes ...it was and still is :)
My favorite tune on this game first played on level 26
best soundtrack on nes
It's is so nostalgic for me because magic sword and donkey Kong country were my first video games bundled with the SNES I got as a present in 1994. Nintendo should bring this on Switch
That’s awesome. This game’s tight
It's on Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, which is on Switch!
Wow! One of the first games I went hard on as a kid. I was wondering what the name was I forgot about it, but it was always in my head lol. Thank you so much for this. I wonder if they have a phone or pc version of this now lol
Same, re-learned the name of it by searching "SNES game tower floors" on Google.
Yes
Just bought the cart today
that soundtrack was the best as a kid
I loved this game ❤️
One of the first SNES games I had. Unbelievable bad luck though. A few weeks later I purchased Chrono Trigger at the flea market and the SNES stopped working. ROTTEN! LMAO!
What happened to the SNES?
Amazing that SNES sound engine.
Dare I say sometimes better than the arcade ports 😎
Haha I miss my original SNES console.Shouldn’t have sold it years ago
first game i played for the snes and the first game i had
While the Japanese version of this game had no points, this almost has the perfect adaption of the arcade port.
Very clever,mindyou.
Would have enjoyed this as a kid. I played it in the arcades but never owned it for snes.
I was lucky enough to get this on the 360 as package deal with Final Fight and they are both arcade ports.
They pulled it and it’s gone for good. But at least this is now on the Capcom classics 2
I need to study this if I want a good run playing this in the street fighter 6 battle hub
it took me days to beat the game and it was very challenging
I dont understand why they let you start at floor 33 though is that a cheat?
@@Crunchtv69You can say that because you don't have to start from the bottom and work your way through each floors
Hurry up Nintendo and bring this on the Switch!!!
You're in luck! Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium on Switch (as well as PS4, XB1, and PC) has this game!
I got this game CIB in 100% mint condition. I was lucky to have bought it when I seen it at the flea market video game seller
Magick swords the best!!!🤘💀🤘
I’ve been trying to find the name of this game for so long 😭
Think this was a big influence on Capcom's D&D game
King of Dragons was more the influence, it plays a lot like the later Capcom D&D games.
Boss music on the 17th floor?!
SNES seems to struggle with Magic Sword. You get a lot of slowdowns when there's a lot of sprites on screen. SNES hardware was great but no match for CPS board. Still, awesome port. I prefer SNES music for that game than original, which sounded harsher like it would if game was ever ported onto Genesis. SNES music is generally more hip and mellow. Easier on ears with less pitch and more mids and lows.
Yeah I don't imagine a commodity home console would be able to compete with expensive arcade hardware, but at least some of that slowdown is due to developers not quite having come to grips with the hardware yet. A lot of earlier SNES games like this onehad more pronounced slowdown.
It's not the SNES' fault, but Capcom's fault that programmed a bad port for this console.
@@Vinicius-hs2rf It was early in console's life so they weren't familiar with hardware limitations. Slowdown happens whenever console must draw more sprites than it's supported limit, using precious cpu time to achieve that feat and slowing action to a crawl as console can't skip frames and need to draw all of them.
Best regards from
🔥🗡KRAUL🗡🔥
Love that game. Is it slowing down like this on the original snes system?
Yeah, like a lot of early Capcom SNES games, it slows down fairly often
@@NintendoComplete Still lovin' it. Some of the most gorgeous looking graphics out there.
Absolutely, I remember it slowing down often
The arcade is hard but not so unfair as Ghosts 'n Goblins
I never acquire the Priest at the beginning because he is too weak. I usually stick with the Amazon and then when I find the thief I have it made until I can use the Lizard man and The Knight in the upper levels!!
J'ai le jeu !
You think the dragon is a better sidekick than the knight?
Fifty floors...Sheesh. The only other tower I know *that* big is is Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. And that one was *way* less...busy.
Chrysler building in Parasite Eve:Hold my beer.
4:51🗿
I would of picked yes
The floor number 29 is a secret floor if we take a secret door at the 28th floor 😁 No boss at this 29th floor*
How many levels are there? Also is there a benefit yo starting at level 33?
By starting at 33nd floor, you can find a secret door at 34th floor to directly reach 36th floor. I succeeded it just one time, several years ago, and not on purpose🙃
que jogo foda!

Looks like a bootleg Golden Axe.
? Other than sharing a fantasy setting it really has almost nothing to do with goldenaxe aesthetically or gameplay-wise.
Bruh, if this looks like Golden Axe to you, get your eyes checked. This thing looks and plays NOTHING like Golden Axe. Personally I like this game more than Golden Axe (the only good GA in my opinion is the second arcade game, Revenge of Death Adder).
It's a cool game on its own :(
why stage 36 is epic ?
Girl voice: Thank you
Me: Uhhhhh sure
This reminds me of Golden Axe with better music.
This port is so slow.
@DEDLI It's not the SNES' fault, but Capcom's fault that programmed a bad port for this console.
There are more frantic games and technically superior to Magic Sword, which worked well in Snes.
Regardless this was a still good game the speed didn't matter to me
